The sand is pressed harder against the screen if it’s being pressed by another screen than if it’s being pressed by the fabric of your pocket.

Why does the iphone on the left just look wrong somehow?
ATPA9@feddit.org 3 hours ago
they used an ai image instead of one of the thousands of actual product images

I assumed as much. It looks like it’s bending backwards.

It wasn’t intentional. In my defense I’ve long ago stopped wondering who would want that when it comes to Apple products

It shouldn’t fold in this direction, it closes the other way
wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 3 hours ago
folds it hamburger-style like this?
Varesti@lemmy.zip 2 hours ago
It folds in this direction… Once.

It’s an IPhone, that’s why. 🙃

I’ve had a folding phone for 3 years and I’ve never gotten sand in it, pocket or otherwise.
But I also don’t crack my screens on my phones.

I have one too. I’ve gotten all sorts of things inside the inner screen. Once I even accidentally closed it with a key in it (basically folded it while putting it in pocket where keys are). Realized only after arriving home and pulling out my phone with key in it. Dust, manufacturing materiāls (I work in a factory), ectera ectera.
What has saved me all this time is simply a nillkin case that creates a small gap between the screens when you close, so whatever dust gets inside is never really pressed between the screens.

Which model did you get? I wanted one for some time now, but I really feel nervous about the screen just deciding to go the way of the dodo after 2 years and leaving me with a brick.

The original Pixel Fold. I didn’t like the dimensions of the Samsung ones closed and I didn’t really feel like importing an Oppo or something like that.

Pocket sand always wins. Over time, it grinds exceedingly fine.
