The models themselves are not incredibly expensive power wise for inference its the training that is the real power pig.
Eventually things will slow down as we hit the wall on this tech and people start trying to work around the limitations of it. With all the money in it right now though it might be a while.

My off the cuff guess would be the success of who framed Roger rabbit even if Jessica rabbit was not an animal.
- Comment on "Farms use more water than Al data centers" OK, I'll go without Al and you can go without food and we'll see who lasts longer 1 week ago:
Not all farms are required.
Farmers like to claim they are ‘growing your food’ while exporting grain and selling corn for ethanol or shipping alfalfa to Saudi Arabia for cattle feed.
They are incredibly unsympathetic.

It depends on how much management is above or below.
There have definitely been times in my life where a meeting was just a reason to zone out and take a break while someone else got their chance to listen to their own voice.

Nintendo manufacturers way more than valve does. They were producing switch 2s for almost a year or more before releasing so the current product on the shelf was made with cheap RAM or with RAM that was purchased on contract. They might be able to ride their current stock level for some time and walking the price up slowly so it doesn’t look as big when they actually have to pay the price of current memory cost.

I mean it’s not hard to do the math.
Steam has 15 years of good will so they get the benefit of the doubt.
The others have more sordid history so people are less charitable.

A ‘man that sucks, but I gotta go … <insert whatever you gotta do>’ will get you out of this about 50 percent of the time.

- Comment on Vibe management 4 weeks ago:
They love those the most because they integrate them and then use it to justify a promotion or move so they can get out of Dodge before the inevitable explosion happens on the next guys watch. The next guy blames the previous guy and then repeats the process.

Anything where the person is visible is pretty much professional.
Just because they’re on only fans or whatever doesn’t make it any less professional.

I have an Xbox with this dash.
It belonged to my girlfriend and was never updated. It’s an interesting time capsule.

He got 7 million to do this job. He’ll probably do a half ass job and spend half (if that) to do the actual work.
In 2 months people will forget about this and that dude can basically retire.
- Comment on amazon can afford to treat its workers with dignity 1 month ago:
That’s what they do now (and have done for the last 3 decades but Walmart is a lot older than that and you don’t get to be in that position by accident.
They were sourcing cheap Chinese goods in the early 80s.
- Comment on amazon can afford to treat its workers with dignity 1 month ago:
Maybe they could 50 years ago but they decided then that Walmart was the way to go.
Now all most of them can afford is Walmart
- Comment on Banning from social media 1 month ago:
If you ban social media only criminals will have social media…
Seriously though I’m not even sure how you define social media such that it couldn’t be gamed into meaninglessness.

Also I did not realize Shriek was a bird. I only knew it as the vehicle in the 2001 fps tribes 2.

I am low vision so I can’t see a phone unless it’s nice and close.
This fact has saved me from many of these situations. If they are extra insistent I tell them to send me the link and reply with a laugh emoji as is expected in our culture.

It’s always going to be razor thin margins because it’s a two party System and first past the post.
Anything that doesn’t address that problem is just window dressing
- Comment on Can we impeach the pedophiles now? 2 months ago:
Even if (big if) the Dems win this year it’s going to be like a 52 to 48 " landslide" . Then they will fix nothing and maybe punish 1 or 2 people but not address the principal cause, in the name of “unity”.
Then you get to roll the dice again on 8 years but likely with someone a little more clever than the Dorito bonito.

This is actually a very good example of middle managers in a large organization getting marching orders and seeing which way the wind is blowing.
IBM had a similar thing in the early 2010s when they decided they were all in on “cloud” (about 10 years too late). Every manager saw where things were headed and pivoted whatever their product was to “Cloud” regardless of the suitability.
The higher ups like this too because it lets them put everything under the “cloud” or AI heading on earnings and revenue and makes them look like they are nimble and working on the new hotness, even if it’s just someone moving their calculator to a web app or whatever.

I was going to say. It still works. They just couldn’t find a customer willing to pay the high price at the moment. Someone will make another model to do what it did.
I suspect the current government just didn’t want the plebs to have access and put Pentagon Pete in more videos and it was a small price to pay for open AI to make them happy and make sure they are the only ones who get to make shitty AI tiktok slop.

The gacha games just keep lowering the poly count until your waifu is 2d, so long as the loot boxes still open the customers won’t notice.

I mean the marketing guys are doing their job which is to convince you that you are getting a video feed for your to do cool things with. The actual reason is free camera wearing automatons are cheaper than ones you have to pay for.
