Do they still race these weird cars?
burt@programming.dev 2 weeks ago
Yes! and they are getting weirder.
Botzo@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Yes: IMSA (US Series) and WEC (EU/Intl.)
ohulancutash@feddit.uk 2 weeks ago
Not those but something similar
baldingpudenda@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
The cars are 1150mm, or about 46 inches, tall and weigh 1000KG. They’re very small. here’s a driver change

The LM-GTP (a continuation of the GT1 class) class was dropped in the early 2000s.
After it was consolidated along with the LMP900 class into a new LMP1 class. While LMP675 class was dropped.
LMP1 continued under various rulesets up until 2021. When the ACO and IMSA merged their two respected top classes.
Creating the Hypercar class across both series. Made up of cars following either the FIA Hypercar or LMDh formula.

I was hoping the latest ruleset would bring a few homologation specials, but alas not. In my opinion homologation specials from both Le Mans and Rally have brought forth some of the most iconic cars of all time, it’s a shame that’s gone away.

It’s not about the flying car, it’s about sticking the landing
Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 2 weeks ago
What the fuck happened with the Tesla roadster?
cannedtuna@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
It failed to fly. It did some monster jam style jump on a ramp and landed. That’s it. It didn’t fly for even a second.

It was fun to watch all the media write about it as “flying car”. We are living in idiocracy.
cryptix@discuss.tchncs.de 2 weeks ago

It tries to fly, but falls shy of that description. It should be called shyster.
BestBouclettes@jlai.lu 2 weeks ago
Yeah it’s impressive as an engineering feat, but it’s actually completely pointless
tjoa@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
Yes because people buy expensive cars because of how practical they are
drath@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Is it even that? RCS thrusters aint a new thing, with enough money you can strap them to anything, be it a fridge or a car shaped object
saltesc@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Style’s not the right word. It looks violently engineered, while the car itself is like a Lancer with one of those awful knock off Countach bodykits.
