Russia is kidnapping children and re-educating them, which is basically point 5 of article 2 on the definition from the convention on prevention of genocide.
That’s not watering down the term, that’s literally using the word to describe what they’re doing.

Thankfully Ukraine has prevented most of the genociding that Russia wants to do but in the beginning it was pretty bad. Also the amount of drones that hit residential buildings can be classified as an act of genocide.

Everybody stick on the legal definition of genocide, and as a strategy it does make sens. However, their is a political struggle, and not as we may expect. “Genocide” word was first defined by a Jewish jurist during WWII, as such :
“Generally speaking, genocide does not necessarily mean the immediate destruction of a nation, except when accomplished by mass killings of all members of a nation. It is intended rather to signify a coordinated plan of different actions aiming at the destruction of essential foundations of the life of national groups, with the aim of annihilating the groups themselves. The objectives of such a plan would be disintegration of the political and social institutions, of culture, language, national feelings, religion, and the economic existence of national groups, and the destruction of the personal security, liberty, health, dignity, and even the lives of the individuals belonging to such groups.”
His works did inspire the UN definition with a more restrictive definition we know today. Raphael Lemkin made a definition that try to prevent inequality, colonialism and oppression that may lead to mass murder. But in preventing hierarchy between people, he made a definition that would make the concept of nationality illegal : every national-state has been made through genocide, according to Lemkin definition.
Personally, I found that silencing this definition to made a new one that allow nationalism after WWII is antisemitic (and racist oc). But I want to underline that the fascist state of Israel is right to point out the hypocrisies of national-state; this propaganda will work until we will stand against our nations as well as against Israel.

I stand with the Israeli people and their right to live in peace and safety. At the same time, I don’t agree with all of the Israeli government’s choices on how they are conducting the war. I want the violence to end, and the innocent Palestinian people affected by the humanitarian crisis that has resulted to receive the lifesaving aid they need. And I know that many in Israel share this sentiment.
He wrote an essay for Time Magazine. It’s a short read but… Yeah even calling it a war is troubling, because Palestine doesn’t have a military? He says he feels for the innocent Palestinian people, but spends far more ink on bemoaning rising anti-semitism, and never really touches on the massive difference in body counts between the hamas terrorist attack and the genocide that isreal is currently engaged in. He also, of course, doesn’t call it a genocide.
It’s like his heart is almost in the right place, but he just can’t gather to courage to call a spade a spade. He calls the war in Ukraine a russian invasion, he calls the conflict in Lebanon a pogrom. Why can’t he bring himself to call what’s happening in Gaza the same? It’s literally an isreali invasion and a pogrom. He can’t just call for a two-state solution, say he feels for the innocent Palestinians, and wash his hands of the rest.
