Cloud looks like Scarlet Johansson, I can’t unsee it.

All examples look samey in the worst way.

i mean, we don’t know what the training was like for this version. if it was trained on a limited subset of people that could easily explain why. In future games that want to support this, they could train it specifically on the actor/models they used.
Kirp123@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Cloud looks like they’re transitioning. Good for them.
audaxdreik@pawb.social 1 day ago
We support Cloud in all their endeavors. DLSS can still fuck off ❤️

Shit! Me neither now T_T

I guess I don’t care. Like it’s mostly for AAA games which I don’t play and for Nvidia cards which I don’t own. And even if I could use it, it’s totally optional. Since it apparently sucks, I don’t think many people will use it.

DLSS is a plague.
Tarquinn2049@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I guess they felt videogames didn’t look quite enough like soap operas or instagram “models”.

Thx I hate it

If the point of the tech was to make Jesse Faden look like an old-aged pensioner, then mission accomplished.
I’m sorry, but if my wife looked like this in her 60s and 70s I’d be very happy.
She’s supposed to be 35 in the game. The videos in the article didn’t make her look older than 40. The article is hyperbole.
Also that Skyrim character look bad regardless of DLSS on or off is not a surprise. Fans probably call it a feature. Just shows the tech isn’t magic.
wylinka@szmer.info 1 day ago
Why exactly should I hate it? This doesn’t look that scary to me, I feel like it’s just climbing up from the uncanny valley.
blindbunny@lemmy.ml 1 day ago
If you think thats what Cloud looks like… I shouldn’t have to even explain the rest…
dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago
In the remake cloud already looks like a weirdo, he doesn’t need help from DLSS.
neatchee@piefed.social 2 days ago
look, I’m not in favor of ai slop and DLSS 5 used without creators’ consent or input is fucked…
…but another title for this story could be “unfinished, unreleased product deemed not ready for release” …
Like, you just slapped an unfinished version onto whatever game they had been tinkering with and then roast them for the uncanny valley effect? That’s some manufactured outrage
vrighter@discuss.tchncs.de 2 days ago
fall is a month away, and the last demo they gave required a dedicated 5090 just for dlss.
neatchee@piefed.social 1 day ago
sorry but I’ve worked at enough companies and dealt with enough timetables to say “unreleased is unreleased for a reason”.
Jako302@feddit.org 1 day ago
This tech pops up in the news every now and then and it had this exact problem since the very first iteration. They won’t suddenly fix this now when they couldn’t in the last 8 months.
hirihit640@sh.itjust.works 1 day ago
I want to see it with Quake
warmaster@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Control looks great with it, because it has a realistic art style.
thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 2 days ago
It takes any personality away and averages out to something that looks like in anything other. And then does not even fit into the art style and world of the rest of the game. Still image are one thing, moving and eventually speaking or making facial expressions together with other characters in a scenery is a different thing.
This might improve games that were vibed together with Ai in the first place. But not artistic strong and beautiful games crafted by good artists.
WolfLink@sh.itjust.works 2 days ago
The shots of the background already look realistic, and the shots of her face look like a different person
dreamkeeper@literature.cafe 1 day ago
She looks like the same person to me, just in her late 30s or early 40s even though she’s supposed to be 28 in the game.
IamLost@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Control does look more realistic. It’s not just making everyone into supermodels, but adding imperfections and flaws you see in real people. Whether that’s your preference or not is subjective, but it’s less like an Instagram filter than the last demonstration.
CovfefeKills@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Cool been waiting for this for a decade
shani66@ani.social 1 day ago
Oh, idk, destroying artistic integrity? Seems like the biggest reason, but there are probably more.
CovfefeKills@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Artistic integrity? That’s absolute nonsense. It’s graphics settings. The NBA game looks like an actual broadcast now it’s incredible.
brsrklf@jlai.lu 1 day ago
Oh, only a 50% performance hit on very pricy hardware for making automated lighting choices and complete face redesigns that don’t respect the designers’ and artists’ vision?
What a steal!
CovfefeKills@lemmy.world 23 hours ago
So don’t use the filter on games that weren’t released with it. And you have to use it on games that released with it, because that was the intended artistic vision.
brsrklf@jlai.lu 20 hours ago
Real problems like gen AI’s impact on the environment and the cost and accessibility of technology?
thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 1 day ago
I think this is one of the reasons why Nvidia developed this. First it makes it a “unique” feature of Nvidia hardware, where you rely on. And secondly the huge impact in performance, so you are incentivized to buy new and faster Nvidia hardware. I don’t see any other reason why Nvidia would develop this DLSS 5 Ai Slop technology.

This feels like motion smoothing on TVs. It’s super unclear why manufacturers put it on since the first thing any same person does is turn it off. This feels like something similar, I suspect most gamers are just going to turn it off rather than leave it on and buy better hardware especially at the moment.
