How much would you pay for this big breakfast?

    Image

    Answer

$22 at my local Vietnamese joint. Such good value.

    source
    • SituationCake@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

Agree that’s great value. These days it’s standard to pay $25 for avocado toast that comes with 1 slice of bread, some greying avocado and 1 egg. Oh, and don’t forget the 4 sprigs of micro herbs on top and a half teaspoon smear of beetroot relish on the plate which is useless to scrape up onto the food.

Oh gosh the body is SORE. Did a Pilates core workout that really hit me when I got up to pee at 4am. Had to do today’s squats in small chunks, but got them done in between a trip out to the Yarra Valley for cheese and wine.

    source
    • PeelerSheila@aussie.zone ⁨1⁩ ⁨day⁩ ago

Ouch! I did my extremely slow and gentle squats after a trip to IKEA with the kids. I’ve been looking into equipment-free exercises for toning and improving my shape without trashing my joints. Today I did a few exercises from a chair (seated) workout video. It seems like nothing doing at first, but by the time you hit the 50ish mark you’re starting to feel odd muscles activate. I never got the hang of Pilates, I think I’d have to do it in front of a mirror to get it right and there’s insufficient space in front of mirrors at my place.

I had a breakthrough today in some of my understanding of relativistic physics. 🐱🚀

      I think. 🤔

      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_dilation

      spoiler

so if tau ceti is 13 light years away , it takes HM 4 years to get there and only just over 2 years for the beatles to get back, it’s still 13 years Earth time for the HM and 13 for the beatles , regardless of how fast they go, because each is measuring time and distance differently and velocity is not additive

      • imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

Yep. That seems right. Everyone has their own rulers and clocks. It’s all consistent within the observers frame. The paradox only happens when you try to reconcile between the two.

I studied relativity - it was my favourite (general relativity even more!)

The new cutlery set I ordered has two sizes of knives and forks. Perfect for those multi-course dinners we all sit down to every night.

It has made me wonder whether anyone these days actually uses/wants multiple cutlery sizes or if it’s completely outdated outside of formal restaurants etc.?

Mostly it just brings to mind my mother’s constant explaining to anyone that went near her cutlery drawer that they needed to make sure they got out the big knives and forks to set the table with. As far as I can tell she never used the smaller ones, they were just there to stress her out that someone might actually put them on the table by mistake. I tried to get her to move them away somewhere else so she didn’t have to worry about it, but she never did.

    • CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

My mum uses the small knives and forks. It’s like trying to eat your meal with a kiddie set.

My mother probably should have gone that route, seeing she moved to using small plates instead of proper dinner plates. It drives me batty. You don’t need to fill the entire plate with food, but having a larger plate gives you room to do things like cut your meat without accidentally knocking it off the side.

        source
    • Catfish@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

I have a two size set and prefer to use the smalls just for hand size. I don’t host the sort of do where both would be on the table at once. More likely fingers or chopsticks. Except for Boyo, I’ve given up on sticks for him.

      source
    • Seagoon_@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

I have the big set and use the small knives to make sandwiches and the big ones to eat dinner

the small forks I use for desserts and salads

      source
    • SituationCake@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

My cutlery set has bigs and smalls and I don’t really use the smalls. I think cutlery sets should come with fork, knife, spoon, teaspoon. Optional extras are cake fork and long teaspoon/sundae spoon/parfait spoon.

      source
      • RustyRaven@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

I think there needs to be both soup spoons and desert spoons. I don’t really understand why soup works better out of a round spoon and more solid things work better with oval, but it does.

The set I’m getting had a version with just the pieces I want for 6 place settings, but I found an 8 place set with the extra knives & forks being sold on clearance for cheaper than the small set.

Some teenagers beat up and actually killed a guy at our local train station. Of course all the Facebook comments are about machetes, making sure they get tried as adults, and whether they’re out on bail already.

I’d like to know whether the attack was random or if they knew the guy. We’ve almost made it illegal for kids to be online or outside, so what do people expect them to do? The only people who care about what kids are up to are people who hate them and don’t want to see kids anywhere. If only we had some larger social project kids could feel like a part of

    source
    • SituationCake@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

That’s horrific. But I really really really don’t agree with the explanation for murder being because someone was banned from social media or didn’t play outside enough, so of course they’re gonna go murdering?! You’re right about one thing though, these kids are growing up in families where no one cares about them. The parents are disinterested in what the kid is doing socially, where they are at 3am on a Tuesday, if they are doing ok in school, if the 10 knives and 3 machetes the kid has in their bedroom seems normal. The kids themselves are motivated by approval of their peers, kudos, and no repercussions. I don’t know what the answer is.

      source
      • tombruzzo@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

I don’t mean there’s a direct link between the social media ban and attacks like these, more that so much effort is spent legislating kids out of public life instead of finding ways to engage with them

    • RustyRaven@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

I stayed up working until 7am, then slept the rest of the morning in preparation for working again tonight.

Two 12 hour night shifts certainly make it feel like I’m having a very loooong weekend too!

I sometimes miss having a long weekend at the same time as everyone else, but condensing all the work into 12 hour shifts basically means I get a long weekend every week, so I can’t really complain! And they pay out the day off in leiu for the public holiday, so the extra pay this week is a bit nice as well.

      • SituationCake@aussie.zone ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

Glass more practical if you plan to microwave straight in the container. Stainless is lighter and won’t break if you drop it. Dilemmas!

Pre internet dating you were more likely to date someone from your social group, uni, work, friends of friend’s, etc. So you both had a better sense of each others dating status. (ie seeing someone else) But, that didn’t automatically mean x number of dates puts a label on anything. Everyone’s different, take things fast or slow, whatever feels right for you. It’s no one’s decision but yours.
