Sarge, the shrubbery is speaking Puerto Rican!

What is this? Do I want to know?
What does American football have to do with living bushes?

I think this is a picture from their Halftime celebration during the super bowl. They do a musical performance on the field and then it gets cleaned up quickly for the game to resume after

The Bad Bunny halftime show. In American football there are usually shows at half time. In high schools and colleges its usually marching bands. At the super bowl, its pop stars. The Super Bowl half time show is usually criticized by republicans because pop culture tends to have a left leaning bias. Last year was Kendrick Lamar.

As an outsider, I’m impressed that the NFL somehow managed to troll people with the show for two years in a row. It would be super easy to choose someone inoffensive. Didn’t expect the handegg organization, of all people, to be leftist in any way (by US standards).

I don’t usually care about watching sports or pop music but I kinda want to check this out.

I’m in the boat with you and gave it a watch, it was pretty good. Bad Bunny actually seems like a pretty cool guy.

I can certainly think of Americans I like less, haha.
Alchalide@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I don’t think anybody outside the US has ever been or ever will be interested in anything superbowl related.
youCanCallMeDragon@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Not everything that occurs in the US needs to exist for global appeal.
tomiant@piefed.social 1 day ago
In fact, basically nothing that occurs in the US has global appeal.

You’re talking out of your ass. I get our football might not be your taste, but a lot of folks from all over the world do like it. I was in a clan where a lot of folks outside of U.S were in. We had a channel set up on teamspeak that would make a sub channel when the superbowl was on. Had some Swedish, folks Brazil, and even 1 Japanese dude.
It was a good way for us all to come together and have fun over something.

I am not in, or from, the US and have watched the Super Bowl pretty much every year since 1984.
tomiant@piefed.social 1 day ago
You are likely in an extreme minority across the world.

That’s just flat out wrong. Plenty of bars and pubs have Superbowl events here in Melbourne. In the US it’s Superbowl Sunday but what with time difference the game is actually played here around midday on a Monday, so many bars open specially for the game. They have chicken wing food specials and decorations and things.
If I’m being totally honest I think some of the popularity might be that it gives people an excuse to take a day off work and go to the pub first thing on a Monday, but everyone has a good time.
Even people who don’t go to events and don’t care about the football will look up the halftime show on YouTube or whatever, especially last year when Kendrick Lamar played, or the Xmas game where Beyonce did a halftime show.

Career alcoholics don’t count, they make an excuse out of anything.

I concur. Good to see there’s a few exceptions (the other comments - glad they’re all just having fun) but the exporting of American culture is sickening

Thouest job is to be thy bush good sir
cannedtuna@piefed.world 1 day ago
Saw one of them wave when they were setting up and was like oh shit those are people, but then they didn’t move at all after that. Wild. I imagine it made getting the set on the field and setup/takedown easier
jqubed@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I kept expecting them to dance and was shocked it never happened
LePoisson@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I thought the exact same thing! I expected at one point, with all the excellent choreography happening, that the bushes were for sure going to get involved in the dancing.
I don’t speak Spanish so I didn’t understand what bad bunny was singing but that show was still awesome to watch. The people hating on it must be such losers in real life.
