It’s hard to deal with the fact that while volunteers are out helping others their own homes are or maybe destroyed. Fuck.

Thanks everyone for the kind words ❤️

I saw my stray today, eating the food I put out.

The gang was all back today as well. I was worried they were going to be afraid of me because they saw me catch the little cat.

That was a hell of a sunset. Gorgeous but always so sad.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 day ago
why sad?

I am bush fire prepared:
The expensive guitars are in their cases and near the front door

Back from the dog walk, joined him in the barefoot aspect in case the ground was too hot. It’s fine.

I found one of the strays with a broken leg and eventually wrangled him? into the cat carrier and we’re at the animal hospital near my place.
I had 2 options. Take ownership or surrender. So I took ownership. I couldn’t abide letting them end up at the lost dogs home.
So congrats Gibson. You will eventually have a friend. (hopefully they’re friends).
SituationCake@aussie.zone 2 days ago
Reading that was an emotional roller coaster. You are a good human. It’s a sad outcome but the kindest. Hugs. Take care of yourself today.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 2 days ago
I haven’t seen my stray for a week or so. I keep putting the food out and refreshing the water. Something is eating it. I don’t think I’ll buy anymore food if I don’t see the cat again.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 2 days ago
I hope it’s okay, so many emotions going on with all of that happening so quickly
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 2 days ago
Congrats and bloody well done. Thanks for taking care of him! CDS strikes again, fingers crossed him and Gibson are fine. What will you name him?
Eagle@aussie.zone 2 days ago
Good job cat dad!
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 2 days ago
If he’s a boy and much younger, then it may well work out. The real problems are when you introduce two female cats to each other. Especially if they are the same or similar ages. Guaranteed cat fights in that scenario. Has Gibson been spayed?
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Oh man I’m so sorry 😞 You did the right thing 🙏🏼
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Holy fuck, thanks for helping him dude.
I’ve seen options for cats that need assistance (you manually squeeze the urine out for them by pressing their bladder) but it’s an around the clock thing and you’d have to think about his quality of life.
Either way he’s so lucky you’re looking out for him.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 days ago
oh no
I hope it all turns out ok
Catfish@aussie.zone 2 days ago
Oh dear. Best wishes to all.
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 2 days ago
Ooh that’s exciting.
I guess you’ll have to think of a name (if you haven’t already).
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 2 days ago
It would probably be cooler at the office but I’m gonna stay home anyway because it would involve leaving the house. Work has the worst carpark to leave your car in all day as well

I have a wedding to attend in a couple of weeks, and the dress code is cocktail attire. I do not own any item of clothing that would fit the definition of “cocktail”. So hopefully savers has a dress that meets that definition, I mean the dress racks there are usually chock full so I ought to find something.
Thank you Briongloid for posting today’s DT, and providing links to remain savvy!
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Don’t underestimate how good women in cocktail suits look either. If you wanted to wear pants that is.

It is trying to tell me that Ballarat is 37 and feels like 27, also very very wrong. But a bit less wrong than it’s earlier attempt to tell me 40 degrees felt like 23.

I figured I have lived thru so many food fads ( husband’s family are pretty insane in this regard adopting every fad without question ) , that I am so now over and have very little patience for it all.
I have an especial lack of patience for people thinking “ethnic” foods are by default better or that anything from a health food shop is healthier.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 days ago
stay cool everyone
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Melbcat has had a very thorough checkup and they say the crying is behavioural due to getting older, it’s not likely to be pain. Which is a relief. Options will be explored to keep her more comfortable physically and mentally.
I find out about the other stuff when they call back

New neighbours are moving in today. Terrible day for it, trying to move everything in this heat.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 2 days ago
AC on, fridge full of water and freezer full of ice cubes.
Hoping no catastrophes.
Cousins live in Sunbury and their property backs onto the forest there. They’re prepped and packed just in case. We have offered our house and yard as sanctuary for their dogs (cousins can stay with relatives very close to us).

The wind is dreadful out there and the smoke haze is starting to build up as well, giving a horrible ominous feeling to the day. Going to work tonight is the absolute last thing I want to do 😭
tone212_@aussie.zone 1 day ago
My doona came out dripping from the washing machine, too heavy to do a spin cycle property, bone dry in 30 minutes. It’s crazy out there.

Sky a bit yellow from the smoke. Hope the rain comes quickly.

When the veg. box listed ‘piece of pumpkin’ I expected a cut piece, maybe half. Apparently it actually meant two whole butternuts. I think my pumpkin needs are well and truly covered.

I started watching series 2 of A Man on the inside. It stars Ted Danson as a retired engineer lecturer turned P.I. assistant. So if you’re looking for a easy on the brain, funny and wholesome show give it a go. So good.

5 th day with no meds for my back
I’m feeling it a little, just tired mainly
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Unfortunately the cat didn’t make it. The damage was too severe. The vet at the hospital said it was more humane to let go.
I did the best I could.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Mate you did the right thing. It hurts but it’s for the best. Good on you for taking care of the poor creature.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Thankyou for helping as best you could. It’s all you could do 🫂🙏🏼
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 day ago
best cat dad 😢
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Horrible decision, but I think you did the right thing. Think of how the poor kitten must have felt - a serious injury AND getting used to living in a human world AND being separated from mum and the other kittens. Would have been so stressed out. It hurts I know, but with animals, I reckon quality of life is the deciding factor.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Agreed. The vet was almost sure that they wouldn’t have been able to survive even with the best care.
Im definitely upset, but I did the best I could in this instance and in general. They haven’t gone hungry for almost 18 months. I’ve had to accept there are limits to what I can do apart from making sure they’re fed and have access to clean water.
All the rescues are full and have been full this whole time.
It still fucking sucks.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I’m so sorry to hear that. A terrible end to a fucked up week. You’ve done such a great job looking after those strays.
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 1 day ago

You did the best thing you could for the poor cat, it’s lucky it had you looking out for it and didn’t continue to suffer.
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Oh dude that’s rough. I’m glad he didn’t suffer more than he needed.
Eagle@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Oh I’m so sorry. You have a heart of gold. thankyou for trying.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 day ago
oh no, that’s sad
bye little buddy 😢 we all loved you
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I’m so sorry. You did the best you could for them and ensured they didn’t suffer. They were very lucky you got them to the vet and chose what was best for them.

oh hon, I’m so sorry.
