Goodnight from myself and my new lap cat lol ❤️
Interview with COO tomorrow at a new place, in person. Here we go!

Had a very productive day in the garden today, taming the backyard wilderness. The weirdest thing has been all the lemons going missing off the lemon tree. They were there a few days ago and gone yesterday when I went to get some for a neighbour. Backyard has high fences all around and is inaccessible from outside, so it wasn’t people. I also found some lemon rinds under a bush, so maybe it was possums with a sour tooth. Very odd
possums love citrus
and I nearly filled one wheelie bin with weeds and rubbish from my little back yard
the cats are loving going outside 😺
Noodles!
Omg sooooooo cute!!! Thank you for the photos, what a baby!
Adorable!
Oh man… I didn’t get up for Melbcat’s 4pm meds because she was cuddling and lying on my head… then she moved to cuddling at my side but I foolishly thought, ‘just a few minutes more.’ Woke up at 8pm, 4 hours past that dose. Poor Melbcat 😢
Then to add insult to injury the wooden door was still cracked for air when the black cat came by. There was mutual howling and hissing at the screen door forcing me to pick her up and close the main door with my hip.
That timing could move nicely back into the twice daily meds schedule if she’s ok with it. I’m just not sure if she’s ready yet.
We have arrived safely in Perth (a few hours ago actually heh).
Watched Predator again on the flight, and spent descending enjoying the plane dropping due to the winds - I kinda like the feeling of my stomach dropping lol
Now we’re chilling at my FILs place for tonight, then dinner with Nonna tomorrow and off to SILs.
The weather here is fucking shithouse though, good lord
I made a “chocolate mousse” with an avocado, 2 bananas, cocoa powder, and maple syrup. It was supposed to have dates in it too. It tastes like banana 🥲
Well that was a day of it. Gonna need moar mulch.
Also bottom pic dug out the chilli patch, re-did it w/ more soil, some lifter, compost and some K and chucked the healthy ones back in. Looks like a few over-wintered quite nicely. Fuck that thing was an oxalis forest (they both were really)… but not any more. phew.
Looks awesome man :)
It is such an amazingly beautiful day today. The wind’s even died down enough that I think it will be safe to put down some mulch.
weeding the back yard continues
bill and ted are helping 😊
It was a perfect day for it
I poisoned some weeks in the back yard and mowed the front. I’ll do it in reverse the next time there is a decent day. There are a few knarly weeds that pop up here, being a new estate with not much garden work done previously. There is one in particular that is a very thorny broadleaf, I haven’t been able to identify it properly yet so I just refer to it as “the rosette of doom”.
Miss Meow is napping and completely disinterested in all garden work.
As a bonus today I’ve seen some dragonflies in the yard.
I hope they aren’t digging 😲
So my girlfriend thinks Home Is Where The Gutter Is by King Parrot is inappropriate for kids. But the ending is so funny.
lol
I’m sorry in advance but I need to vent a little.
The majority of the people I consider close friends aren’t in Melbourne. I’ve found a lot of the people I’ve met here over the years can treat others like they are disposable.
I was too sick to go out last night so I’m going out next weekend.
There’s barely anyone here that I would actually want to go out and celebrate with or would even understand the gravity of what exactly is being celebrated.
My experiences with people here have been poor. Maybe it’s something about bigger cities after spending so much time in Adelaide. It feels cold here.
/vent.
Part of it could be getting older. I’ve found that people drop off gradually after school/uni, following different paths, moving away, having kids etc. Then making friends is much harder as we get older. Everyone is busy and often have no time or want for new friends. It takes repeated meeting and socialising with same people to make new friends. Outside of sports groups, religious institutions, or parents groups there’s not much opportunity. The older I get the lonelier I get. It’s hard.
I think you’re right.
Im going to keep trying because I’m incredibly stubborn and I figure I just got a new lease on life so where’s the harm in putting a lot of energy into social activities.
I can’t accept that this is how it’s going to be. Fuck that.
I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. It’s hard to meet people in a big city.
Amongst the chaos of Melbourne, I’m glad you’ve come here, and I hope you remember that this is a safe place for you :)
I want to go out too, but with people I genuinely feel connected to. My closest friend at the moment is in Sydney. Even though much of her life is there, she still makes me feel like a priority in her life. I have another close friend who I talk to often, but only see her about once every two months as she lives far. The rest of my “friends” are always too busy, disrespect my time in some way, or are only interested in talking to me when they’re wanting to go out and have no one to go with. Most of these people have established friend groups that they’d rather hang out with. Of course, as there is a common theme here, I do think that I am the problem in a lot of these instances. I have enabled their shitty behaviour by hanging out with them. However, I’m still hopeful that ‘my people’ are out there. I have heard of Aussies going overseas and connecting with other Aussies there. I am considering moving overseas at some point or even just getting flatmates. So for now, I will be doing stuff alone but also going to events to meet new people. I downloaded meetup the other day and am going to a few events from there. Not expecting to make friends from it, but at least I won’t be a hermit.
I’m sorry you’re also having these kinds of difficulties. I have people like you describe, generally only contact me when they want me to do something for them or go out because they don’t want to go out alone.
I wasted a lot of time convincing myself that those people were friends. In the end I’d rather have no one than friends like that.
I definitely feel like a hermit. Mostly because of where I live and that med that I was taking.
I figure I’ve been given a 2nd chance. And I’m going to take it and run with it as far and as hard as I can. I don’t mind that things are difficult or are going to take time to fix, but in the moment, it can hurt like hell to see the reality of your situation.
Despite seeming superficially friendly Melbourne can definitely be cliquey.
so many hugs
I have found living in big cities to be more like living in close neighbourhoods, it takes so long to travel people tend to stay local
so stay local if you can, close to public transport or walking distance
or have weekly meet ups at a specific place , it has to be regular
suburbs it’s much harder as people are car centric , try finding a place where people do activities,
I have a sports club close by, I might go there and join trivia nite, and even tho I’ll be “the only guy in a tie” I know I’ll fit in , just have a beer/wine and be friendly
I went out before to scatter another packet of flower seeds in pots and a maggie was watching me intently right up close on the fence. I talked to it and it started singing with me right there!
Melbcat started slamming the screen door from inside because she heard me talking, and despite coming back inside she’s now standing up on her hind legs to bang the door. For safety reasons I really don’t want to let her get used to going out again though.
Went to a petting zoo and food stalls up at Marnong Estate in the north this morning. It was a great spot and worth going to even if you don’t get tickets to the petting zoo which sell out quickly.
The only problems for us was it was windy and one of the boys was getting scared of the wind, and there wasn’t really food that was easy for little kids to eat. Gyros lamb rolls and burgers are good, but little hands and developing fine motor skills can’t really get their heads around burgers without there being a massive mess.
That said, food was surprisingly cheap. $10 for a burger and you got a $10 for each paid petting zoo ticket so it could almost be a free lunch
Sounds like they need to add nuggies to the menu
Yeah, they had the classic chips and tendies but they were only for some sports club doing awards at the same time. Massive oversight for such a family event. I would have bought two so the boys could have an easy feed
Wondered where Melbcat was and she’d found a sunbeam. I raised the blinds a bit more for her and put her sunscreen on her nose
Waking up at sparrows fart isn’t the same without the Chaos Agent yowling at me to watch him poo 😂
Pooping is a vulnerable position. He’s calling for backup
When I poop, I’m not afraid of anything. Everyone else is afraid of me!
My best friend from high school reached out after not responding for almost a year, saying she’d be open to talking about things. But what is there to talk about? We had a bit of conflict during the first couple of years out, because I was an idiot, but we were way too co-dependent on each other.
So it’s been a couple of years since I’ve actually seen her in person. Part of me wants to see what she has to say, but I’m not the same person I was when I was friends with her. I hope that she’s changed too.
Their “not responding” might’ve been them going through some shit of their own. I isolate when things get shitty for me. When things get better, I don’t really have a concept of who I have and haven’t pushed away.
I mean it’s a big thing to reach out like that, a lot of lesser people would not do that. It sounds like you’ve both changed for the better over time so maybe it’s worth meeting to see how you feel?
I’ll try to organise something with her soon, and take it from there.
The sun seems extra bright today, looking forward to warm sunny days returning. Absolutely itching to get the paddleboard out!
Shopping done, now just to meal prep, play games and watch the new episode of my current favourite show. An excellent Sunday!
Today we move 3m^2 of mulch. Very handy the guy who sells it is literally about 500m away. Not cheap but it’s good stuff w/ no other shit in it.
Interesting thing about it is the place operates on an trust system. Rock up, get what you need (lotta things from mulch to worms etc.) put your coin in the bucket and off you go. Much prefer to support that than the b-store.
Nice setup. The last lot of bulk mulch and soil I got weren’t very good, lots of bits of rubbish in it. Hopefully the landscape place here has better quality - I’ll find out when the weather is right for me to do the topdressing of the grass that I’m planning. I might get some bulk soil to build up the garden beds a bit too, or I might stick with the bags and do a bit at a time. Once I’ve had to move the first lot via shovel I’ll be in a better position to decide!
Big fan of doing bits at a time. Made the mistake far too often trying to knock it over in one (especially soil, for some reason it always rains right before moving) and suffering for the next week lol.
Nice day to go to friends bbq. I hope there’s lamb chops.
Beautiful day outside!
Urge to spend day inside making music is high though lol
The sun is glorious but the wind is annoying!
I’m kinda struggling to keep the frugal and gardening discussion threads going.
I did go and shove the last of the flower seeds into the pots though so that’s something.
I’ve got my Lemmy setup to only show Top-1-day posts so I only see them the day they come out. I tend to just ask in here anyway as aussie.zone is still kinda small.
I know but I’m trying to keep spaces open for anyone wanting an alternative to the other place, and not all of them will be Melbourne based.
Also the DTs are so active they tend to bury stuff and wash it away
I should post there as I am creating the new vegie garden 🤓
Whomever infected my brain with Cumbawumba, we need to have Words
I was so late having breakfast today it became lunch.
I have been productive though, with two loaves of bread in progress. This afternoon I’ll do a bit of gardening work (if the wind isn’t too much of a problem) and finish packing the meat for the freezer.
Heyyoo!

Big boxing fight starting in around an hour/hour and a half. Canelo Alvarez vs Terrence Crawford. It’s on Netflix for no extra cost. Crawford is going up two weight classes to try for a third belt, against Canelo who needs no introduction
