Presuming you’re asking in good faith…

Because working class - read: poor and routinely fucked over - people have been repeatedly lied to that the reason they must remaining living in poverty and dying young is because of people receiving £49.18 per week.

Not the bosses, landlords, or billionaires, to whom 49 quid is a cheap lunch.

I know you’re right, but I’m a working class, poor, and routinely fucked over Brit, but I’m not stupid enough to fall for this nonsense.

Granted I’ve always thought people trying to get me to believe things that didn’t make much sense to me were idiots and disliked them.

They tried to sell me on religion in school, I thought it was a load of rubbish - I remember telling the priest exactly that when I was 11 and he wanted me to do my Holy Communion.

I looked at stuff like the Daily Mirror and thought it was crap, and eventually I got the Internet and started learning more, and it wasn’t too hard to use the basic critical thinking skills taught by my parents and teachers to figure rubbish from not.

That said, I’m probably wrong about loads of things and believe all sorts of propaganda and misinformation that I don’t realise, but at least the bare faced obvious lies like “It’s people seeking political asylum who are the reason the minimum wage is unlovable” are very, painfully obvious to me 😂

…like, it’s actually insulting that they would think anyone would be thick enough to fall for that.

I grew up in a dirt poor shit hole council estate in schools constantly in special measures about to be shut down, surrounded my chavs and yobbos in school who literally murdered old ladies in their homes and the like (I’m not exaggerating, sadly), and yet I’m perfectly capable of spotting this rubbish.

I know some people are extremely stupid, but surely it’s a small percentage in the grand scheme, so why do so many seemingly smart people fall for this obvious nonsense?

      :-(

I mean, there’s a whole bunch of reasons, but I don’t think it’s simply stupidity.

Some people didn’t learn the critical thinking skills you have, some may well have “lost their job to an immigrant” (and not realise that it was actually their boss that took it). Some are scared of change, some are suspicious of “outsiders” and haven’t actually met any, and when they do realise everyone is just people.

And some are just dirty fucking racists, and they are absolutely stupid.

The priest probably wanted to fuck you in the arse - you dodged a bullet. Well done your young self!

England is very strongly positioned on the right of the political spectrum. This still seems to surprise people. Brexit, Farage, Reform and Boris Johnson have/had majority support. England is very deeply conservative to the point that the Conservative party isn’t even enough for them. Anyone who is surprised by this is basically willfully ignoring news.

Click on the map in that petition. England (outside London) and Wales are deeply red. London, Scotland and Ireland are quite light.

The guy at work was mentioning immigrants and hotels today, I use him as a baseline as to what the sheep in society are thinking. He’s now actually blaming the previous conservative government and labour for the mess we are in., instead of just the labour government. It’ll be interesting if I hear about this tomorrow

The billionaires continue to burn our planet down and hog all wealth. Normal people are becoming more scared. And it’s much easier to follow the billionaire-owned media and hate your fellow man instead of Luiging those fucking parasites. Sad, but it’s very hard to be welcoming when you fear for yourself and your family.

See the thing is… If we have agreed to host them because they are applying for asylum, and we won’t allow them to work, then how … do these people see them sleeping and eating? Are they going to take them in and feed them?

Not advocating for it, but I suspect in the minds of its proponents the other half of this initiatives is refusal to accept any asylum seekers into the country at all.

Either that or they wish asylum seekers to starve to death so they don’t come.

Could be wrong, I avoid the Faragists like the plague

I’m all for this if migrents can get there claim assessed properly and they can then get a working visa. Many whant a job and the ability to chose where they live. Hotels are good for a holiday not forever. But until the immigration office pulls its finger out they are stuck.

A lot of British people are struggling. Why add more?

They’re dying of heat. The council can’t afford to fix the roads. They can’t get a GP appointment. They can’t find a job. The factories are gone. Their quality of life is suffering and for what?

Mass immigration doesn’t solve anything, not even for the country they come from.

        So why do it?

Why are you such a cunt to your own countrymen?

If you just click on the “More details” button your question is answered explicitly:

I believe that such provisions may inadvertently incentivise illegal migration, particularly via the English Channel.

Because people are coming over in boats from france and seeking asylum and are draining the system. That’s why. To them, they basically see a massive sign saying “free handouts, come on over” and useful idiots are falling for their rouse left, right and centre.

I still think asylum seekers should be given benefits and support… Just not the ones coming from safe countries like France or Ireland.

If you were fleeing war or persecution, would you not prefer to go to a country where you could speak the language and/or had family? Being able to speak the language would also mean you can start working as soon as your claim is processed. Yes, if I was fleeing war, I would want to go to the first safe place. But after safety, the next thing is being able to actually get on with your life and provide for yourself and family.

For instance I can’t speak Turkish, I find it a very hard language to learn. So if I could choose between settling there and going somewhere like France, Portugal or Spain where I have some proficiency in the languages, I would try to get there, because I’d be able to get into work a lot quicker and become part of a community if my application got approved. And even more so if I knew people there. It’s not a case of being greedy or picky, these people are still humans who need to get on with their lives.
