One point. I have never owned an encyclopedia unless Encarta counts. My parents owned one when I was a kid, and I used the library encyclopedia a ton. I’m in my early 50s. I’m surprised the encyclopedia is not the most common point.
Today's Survey. One point for everything that you have NEVER DONE

0 points. I feel old.

Look at Mr Rich Guy here with enough money to afford to own an enciclopedia
shalafi@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I counted my parents collection. Uh, am I cheating?
mechoman444@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I’m 39 ☹️ zero points.
knightly@pawb.social 2 months ago
0, and I’ve done 4 of these in the last year.
ving_thor@lemmy.world 2 months ago
2 points.
I have never written a check, and as far as I know, there were no Blockbusters in this country.
bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 2 months ago
Me too. Though I’d say we can substitute any locally available video renting store with Blockbuster. So it would only be 1 point.

I have 1 point.
I never owned an encyclopedia.
If I had the money then I definitely would have owned one.
Splenetic@lemm.ee 1 month ago
I never owned a fax either! Does it count if I remember the school office using them?
monotremata@lemmy.ca 1 month ago
As kids my sister and I found a set of old 1950’s World Book Encyclopedias that a family in our neighborhood was throwing out. We brought them home on a wagon. We used them for years. They were definitely kinda dated–like, in the article about guinea pigs, it claimed they were the perfect animal for scientific research because they don’t feel pain, which is obviously bullshit and/or propaganda. But that was actually kind of eye-opening for me at the time, because I didn’t have a lot of experience of seemingly authoritative things that were also in error. It still had a lot of useful info, too.
Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
The country were I was living when I rented videos didn’t have Blockbuster, so 1.
S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
In my country we didn’t had blockbuster too but I still consider the video club I used the “local version”. I got one for the paper check.
minkymunkey_7_7@lemmy.world 1 month ago
At my local video club I waited in line while they were bootleg recording The Matrix. First one out the store with the tape. I memorized every line in that movie in 1999.
samus12345@lemm.ee 1 month ago
1 point. I never recorded a music off the radio.
lucster@lemm.ee 1 month ago
It really isn‘t
blady_blah@lemmy.world 1 month ago
You’re right, it isn’t. It’s just already been enshrined into law so they keep using them.
Feelfold@lemm.ee 1 month ago
It absolutely isn’t secure, the government refuses to give up on it so it continues to be in play.
yagurlreese@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I’m a zoomer and only got three points hahaha

Zero (born in '66). Can we add some more to the list?
21: had to wait for the television to warm up
Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Hand washing clothes with a scrub board.
Hikermick@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Hey looks like i got one point!
nostradamnit@infosec.pub 1 month ago
Same here. Here’s some more… 22: I had a black and white television 23: The television didn’t have a remote control 24: On Sunday, television was closed, no programming other than religious stuff in the morning 25: At some point, often around midnight, the television went off the air 26: Cars didn’t have seat belts
Hikermick@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I lived through all that too except for very early Sunday mornings our local station would show Felix the Cat and Popeye cartoons followed by Davey and Goliath. I think they got away with t because it was before church started and Davey was somewhat religious
Raiderkev@lemmy.world 2 months ago
1 point, only because my parents never bought an encyclopedia set. They were absolutely a thing when I was a kid. I definitely used one before, but never owned them. Hooray for being old I guess.
GCanuck@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I wasn’t sure if my parents owning an encyclopedia set qualified me for the point or not.
But then I remembered I owned the Microsoft Encarta encyclopedia CD. Did you own that?
Raiderkev@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Absolutely, but I don’t think that counts and docked myself that point.
Triasha@lemmy.world 2 months ago
One point. Never recorded a CD from the radio.
The encyclopedia belonged to my grandparents, but I lived there and used it.
LordWiggle@lemmy.world 1 month ago
1, We don’t have blockbuster in NL. But 0 if any other VHS rental store counts.
I even have an old rotary phone on my desk.
Witziger_Waschbaer@feddit.org 1 month ago
Does it work? I also have one and it was super easy to connect it to my router and use it. My wife likes to call me on it when my phone is on silent, hard to miss that ring haha.
LordWiggle@lemmy.world 1 month ago
No clue. I have no way of connecting it, I don’t have a land-line. I was thinking of converting it to a mic and headphone speaker for my eurorack. So add jack plugs on some wire.
LordWiggle@lemmy.world 1 month ago
andrej@feddit.org 1 month ago
One. Because in Germany, we did not have Blockbuster…
SilverShark@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I just replaced it with my local video rental shop and counted that I did it. I felt that the question was more into the spirit of asking if you have rented a movie from a shop on physical media rather then being focus on the actual Blockbuster store.
andrej@feddit.org 1 month ago
Well shit. Then I am old ;)
porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 1 month ago
Germany is cheating, you only need to be like 20 to get most of this list
FanciestPants@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I don’t know why these are asked in the past tense like I don’t still do these things.

My score was 4!
I’ve never used a rotary phone, record off radio to cassette (although I did on an MP3 player), never used a boombox outside, and I never used dial up.
Pretty boomer for someone born in '99, eh?

5 but it depends if “used” is defined as actually in an every day situtation or because found an old typewriter in the attic and played around with it
