I think I may still be riding the hype of things like the JWST, and fusion energy breakthroughs. Our societies may be back sliding at the moment, but our species is still doing some amazing things.

- Comment on How is anime and manga more popular than comics and western cartoons? 2 months ago:
I don’t have any idea really, but one possible contributing element is the speed of delivery. My understanding (possibly incorrectly) is that western comics are more commonly delivered on a one book per month cycle, whereas Manga delivers a lot more content in the same time period. Part of this production time can probably be attributed to coloring time (Western comics color every panel vs Manga printed in mostly black and white).
There’s also the accessibility of Manga and anime, having relatively newer characters without the burden of decades of backstory (not accounting for One Piece). Running an anime with (mostly) similar story line helps to bring potential new readers up to speed quickly with Manga, whereas the animated adaptations of western comics often seem to pick specific story arcs of comics, or make up entirely new stories.
- Comment on When and why did democrats begin supporting fracking? 3 months ago:
Fracking technology has some potential upside in the climate discussion, time.com/…/fervo-fracking-technology-geothermal-e…
A ban on fracking might not be the best solution if you want to move the technology towards something more beneficial to the fight against climate change.

The number 1 cause occurs in more cases than the number 2 cause.
- Comment on I just got out of the shower. what is with the product placement ? 4 months ago:
I don’t know if those companies had any say in whether their products were used, but this wasn’t supposed to be for advertising. It was supposed to be a gimmick for what was stated to be a message on the economy, but the orange atrocity personified saw a squirrel and the whole address ended up being the same whiny bullshit.

- Comment on The justices of the supreme court ruled that Trump was immune and effectively above the law while being president. What is now stopping Biden from bringing a gun to the next debate? 5 months ago:
I did not assert that the court gave full immunity for all things, but will now suggest that not every crime is a violation of the constitution, or could not be committed while carrying out a function of the constitution.

Why would immunity be necessary if the act is not otherwise a crime?

- Comment on Cloudflare Employee records her final meeting where HR tries to fire her 11 months ago:
I’ll take this into consideration the next time I look for a new position. I’ve never been on the side of performing or requesting a background check on a potential employee, but have almost always been asked why I left my previous employer when I’ve interviewed for a new position. Thanks internet friend.
- Comment on Cloudflare Employee records her final meeting where HR tries to fire her 11 months ago:
Seems like it would also have the effect of making the employee less appealing to any potential future employers. When asked in an interview why they left their previous job, these people have to decide whether to say honestly that they were let go because of mismanagement and risk their possible new job on whether the background check includes a call to the HR department of your last employer, or give the line that would match the HR record and say they were fired for poor performance. Either way is going to make it pretty hard to get hired, and so if Cloudflare ever needs to hire again in the future, there’s a decent chance these people will still be seeking employment.
- Comment on Nic Cage through the years 11 months ago:
From what I could tell, his “appearance” in The Flash, which is in quotes because I’m fairly certain it was all CGI with no dialogue, was an incredibly deep cut inside joke for a Tim Burton Superman movie that never got released. His “appearance” in The Flash should not be considered a Nic Cage performance.

I’m not familiar with KajaGooGoo, but I remember the Goo Goo Dolls. Sounds like either would have been a fun opening act for Gaga.
- Comment on We have had guns for 200 years but mass shootings only became common in the last 30. So what changed? 1 year ago:
If we’re setting the calendar back 200 years, I’d have to guess that one of the contributing factors is records keeping and reporting. The definition of what is considered a “mass shooting” has also been fluid over the past 50 or so years.
These are not likely to be major contributors, but from Hollywood’s depictions, mass shootings may have been pretty common around 150 years ago.
