Eating on the roof would be a dope experience, especially late at night.

Sometimes that’s also the best spot though. The table that’s basically the server’s office during slow hours. That lets you just be human with them and learn the origin story of every cook in the kitchen. Eventually if you’re a regular you’ll even get free food.

I went through a rough patch awhile back that saw a lot of “yes”’s to things just to keep myself from being still enough to let my thoughts catch up to me.
A friend invited me out one Tuesday night, to a bar within walking distance of our apartments. We got a table on the patio and got deep in our cups late into the night. The vibe started to shift and I suddenly realized something – last call was an hour and a half ago. But drinks had kept flowing - just reappearing while we chatted with the crowd (that was drinking and getting high on the patio) clustered around us. But there was no crowd outside of our group. In fact, all the patrons had gone, and we were apparently just partying with the bar staff, getting to know their life stories. After a spell, I got self conscious and moved to leave. I tried to pay, and they just waved me off.
It was honestly kind of a magical experience. I never did food service or bar work (I chose the retail/manual labor early career skill tree). It felt like a forbidden peek into their lives.

Is this spot fine?
(Clearly it isn’t.)
Of course, thank you!

Cozying up to the HVAC system.

I got mocked and laughed at the last time I ate alone. Your mileage may vary :/

Hmmm - by who? Like, wait staff? Other patrons? I eat alone semi-regularly and feel like absolutely no one cares enough to take notice of a person for it.

I do think your service tends to suck though

I usually try a new restaurant alone before taking people there. Lean into it!

I usually suggest, I can eat at the bar (if they have one)

In Taiwan, at a hot pot place called Haideilao, if you eat solo, they put a oversize stuffed mascot across from you so you’re not eating alone.
Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 1 month ago
…is there someone inside the stuffed mascot? Because otherwise wouldn’t you still be eating alone?
ByteJunk@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Of course not, how could you miss the oversized stuffed mascot sitting across from him??
dingus@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I think I might be more comfortable eating with a giant stuffed mascot as opposed to eating alone.
Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
I think I might not.
jaschen@lemm.ee 1 month ago
Lol, I think they ask you if you want to. You be surprised how many people actually take them up for it.

That’s a thing on mainland China too. Apparently some of them think being sat with a big stuffed animal in the middle of a restaurant is a thing of nightmares too.

There’s a few of them in the US, and they do the same!

That’s awesome! I didn’t know.
