I read somewhere that the percentage data shown does not relate to the probability of rain in your area but the percentage of greater Melbourne that will get rain
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Make sense, but dammit! I wanted to go outside in the rain 😭 I’m braless and wearing a white tank top too, so all the boys are missing out lol

Fuck it’s hot out there and the BO is ripe cos my nostrils told me so.
Pilk@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Feels like fucking Thailand out there
Baku@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Unrelated, but DankPods made a Pilk mixture and stuck it in his car coolant thingy (not a car guy - no clue what it’s called) today
Just thought you needed to know
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
its only about 27, but yeah the humidity and sun certainly make it feel warmer.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 1 year ago
It’s 31 here and the air con is on

My son’s school is hoping to have their outdoor Christmas Carols event this afternoon.
At this stage I’m thinking it’s a 50/50 possibility.
My son is singing Feliz Navidad - one of my all time faves.
Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Will he be singing solo?
Ntcc661@aussie.zone 1 year ago
He does one song with his year group and a medley of song with his choir group.
They decided to cancel the event but record all the year groups doing their performances. It’s something.

Meeting the CSO of one of my clients today. He accidentally stood me up last time so he’s taking me to lunch.
Yay?
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
chief science officer? Heck yes can you please get me a posting on their ship?

I guess it’s insurance day today, after sorting the car I moved on to finalising the forms for Income Protection. So much money, and the premiums just keep going up the older I get. It does make the car insurance seem extra cheap in comparison.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Through some sort of weirdness of the insurance industry it has turned out to be cheaper to get comprehensive insurance for my car than third party. Renewal of the third party with RACV was going to be just over $500, a basic comprehensive policy with AAMI is $342. Even with AAMI the third party policy would have been more expensive. I have no idea why, but obviously the underlying risk assumptions for the policies have some sort of different risk calculations that work out in my favour.
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I’ve got to sort out new car insurance soon, so all the comments about it today are really helpful. Have been with RACV for years but it might be time to switch
Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I wonder if it is to deter people from taking out 3rd party only?
dumblederp@aussie.zone 1 year ago
My 3rd party with AAMI was $200/yr.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 year ago
It does not seem to be an across the board thing, just Suncorp and AAMI (apparently Suncorp bought AAMI recently, so basically the same company). And RACV had lower premiums for including fire & theft than without.
The comprehensive insurance gives you a few more options with excess and amount insured and I thought it might be the difference, but even making sure the excess was the same it was cheaper to have comprehensive. I won’t complain - but I will budget for an increase next year in case it is a one-off glitch that won’t be repeated!

Requests for feedback on online orders are getting beyond ridiculous. This time they want to know how we like a Thing 6 hours before the notice it would land today. I also now know what my Solstice gift is, but that will happen when letting somebody else use your account.
bacon@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I like the concept of solstice gift.
Catfish@aussie.zone 1 year ago
We don’t do Xmas but prezzies are nice, so nearest date 😺
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 1 year ago
How long does it usually take to hear back from a place once they’ve moved on to reference checks? Or is asking for references a sick new part of the selection process instead of the last step for the selected candidate?
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I watched How to make gravy last night. The storyline was a bit meh. I found it lacking in flavour. Not a lot of substance. Not bad, not great, just ok.
3 hobbits
Duenan@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I see you also survived the pate from last night.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I did and not even a bit of diarrhoea to help clean the inside’s out.
mysticgreg@aussie.zone 1 year ago
To improve the flabour, should have added a dollop of tomato sauce.
Sorry, I had to…
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 1 year ago
They had a dollop of dead horse in there and it still didn’t improve the situation.
Also, coffee is underrated.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
they were bold making a movie out of a song lets be honest. Great song, dont get me wrong. GREAT song, But not sure it contained enough depth or story…
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 1 year ago
They could’ve made the storyline more gritter. The reason he was in prison and missed Christmas was pissweak.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 year ago
still no rain
SituationCake@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I often feel so ineffectual at life. Especially after I watch or read about successful people, and then I reflect that I’ve achieved absolutely nothing.

Huh I was just listening to this earlier! That man is a treasure.

Time to wind down now before making dinner.
Playing some Animal Crossing for that cosy feeling and put a movie on.
Going to make more chicken sandwiches tonight.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Great. My phone isn’t working except for WiFi. Goddamn it.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
4g/5g has gone to complete dogshit since the shutdown. May not be your actual phone.
Catfish@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Time to put my phone in the fridge
Duenan@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I think the aircon isn’t working properly at work today. :(
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Wind picks up and theres 3 drops of rain and immediately the staffy is pawing at my window with an expression of “I cant POSSIBLY survive in these conditions!”. She is an outside dog ffs. But the blame should be assigned to me cause I folded and let them in again.
StudChud@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Staffies are the best, derpiest, sweetest dogs! Such boofheads! If I get a dog, I’d definitely get a derpy staffy!!
Poor baby, the wind and three drops of rain traumatised her lol
calhoon2005@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Went for a run. So humid. I am a walking shower.
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Dilemma. I am rostered in the office today. Thought I was getting the flu yesterday. Feeling ok today but one side of my throat is quite sore and it’s all red. Maybe mild tonsillitis?? Never had that mild tho… maybe just allergies??
I think I need to WFH to be safe don’t I? Bum. I had a whole heap of stuff I need to do in person…
I hate in-between not quite sick. Make a decision body
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 1 year ago
In my last job there was a solid 9 month period where my employer refused to accept that there was now a third degree of sickness. Instead of just “fit to work” and “not fit to work”, there is clearly a new category now - “fit to work, but only from home”. Took them a long time to accept that and many spent sick days.
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 1 year ago
It is a difficult one to negotiate because there’s definitely that third category. But then there’s people who insist they can work from home when they are clearly half dead but they are have trouble stopping and there’s others who will WFH/take a late start etc at the slightest hint of discomfort - its too hot/cold/I didn’t sleep until midnight etc. and they see it as a bit of a rest day. And as someone who has always been type 1 I honestly get really resentful at the second group. And yes this is often a battle of X/millenial vs Z which makes it trickier.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 year ago
How early is too early to make the thread? Invariably I wait til almost time and then wander off
dumblederp@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I like to think we’re a relaxed group about such things.
Baku@aussie.zone 1 year ago
My parcel is now marked as “in transit” at Truganina. I live nowhere near Truganina, and considering this bloke is the local postie who I thought only did a couple of suburbs, I wonder why
Sure hope he’s not planning on sending me over half an hour away to pick it up…
Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Random Q, Baku. How many times have you moved since you’ve been in DT/DDT? (If you don’t mind my asking?)
Baku@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Only 1 move, actually. I joined Reddit (under my current username) in 2022, and started talking in the DT sometime after that, I think. Only moved from the last place to this one, though in a couple of weeks, that’ll be 2 moves
Unless you count the stays at hotels/BnBs earlier this year when I more or less had to leave this place for my own safety I was in 3 different places (2 hotels, 1 Airbnb) and moved once a week (though tbh that was by my own choice, I could’ve not complained and stayed here, or not asked to go elsewhere and stayed in the first place they put me)
or,
Since my 11th birthday (<7 years ago), I’ve moved 9 times, 10 if you count this upcoming move, and 13 if you count that + the above hotels)
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Bit of a mood today which is kind of nice cause I don’t often get the nuance of it all. If you need some vibes, it started with Take 5 - Chet Faker Honestly not a MASSIVE fan of the dude, and some of his takes were a bit artsy. But theres something about hearing another guy bare their emotions and admit what they dont know gives my anxious mind permission to relax a bit and let in some feeling. Got into some Trophy Eyes as well to really sell the moodiness.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 year ago
omg omg, I saw dave brubeck live and they did take 5 🙂
Baku@aussie.zone 1 year ago
I’ve been really liking “I’m into you” recently, one of his first songs I think
Drop the game with Flume was alright too I thought
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 1 year ago
yeah both are bangers. I’ve really enjoyed Cigarettes and Chocolate and the Sounds of Silence Albums. Bit more abstract but its been more about the feels for me lately.
