Bit of a mood today which is kind of nice cause I don’t often get the nuance of it all. If you need some vibes, it started with Take 5 - Chet Faker Honestly not a MASSIVE fan of the dude, and some of his takes were a bit artsy. But theres something about hearing another guy bare their emotions and admit what they dont know gives my anxious mind permission to relax a bit and let in some feeling. Got into some Trophy Eyes as well to really sell the moodiness.

I’ve been really liking “I’m into you” recently, one of his first songs I think

Drop the game with Flume was alright too I thought

yeah both are bangers. I’ve really enjoyed Cigarettes and Chocolate and the Sounds of Silence Albums. Bit more abstract but its been more about the feels for me lately.

I read somewhere that the percentage data shown does not relate to the probability of rain in your area but the percentage of greater Melbourne that will get rain

Make sense, but dammit! I wanted to go outside in the rain 😭 I’m braless and wearing a white tank top too, so all the boys are missing out lol

My son’s school is hoping to have their outdoor Christmas Carols event this afternoon.

    At this stage I’m thinking it’s a 50/50 possibility.

My son is singing Feliz Navidad - one of my all time faves.

    source
    • Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone ⁨5⁩ ⁨months⁩ ago

      Will he be singing solo?

      source
      • Ntcc661@aussie.zone ⁨5⁩ ⁨months⁩ ago

He does one song with his year group and a medley of song with his choir group.

They decided to cancel the event but record all the year groups doing their performances. It’s something.

I guess it’s insurance day today, after sorting the car I moved on to finalising the forms for Income Protection. So much money, and the premiums just keep going up the older I get. It does make the car insurance seem extra cheap in comparison.

    source
  • RustyRaven@aussie.zone ⁨5⁩ ⁨months⁩ ago

Through some sort of weirdness of the insurance industry it has turned out to be cheaper to get comprehensive insurance for my car than third party. Renewal of the third party with RACV was going to be just over $500, a basic comprehensive policy with AAMI is $342. Even with AAMI the third party policy would have been more expensive. I have no idea why, but obviously the underlying risk assumptions for the policies have some sort of different risk calculations that work out in my favour.

    source
    • anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone ⁨5⁩ ⁨months⁩ ago

I’ve got to sort out new car insurance soon, so all the comments about it today are really helpful. Have been with RACV for years but it might be time to switch

      source
    • Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone ⁨5⁩ ⁨months⁩ ago

I wonder if it is to deter people from taking out 3rd party only?

      source
      • dumblederp@aussie.zone ⁨5⁩ ⁨months⁩ ago

My 3rd party with AAMI was $200/yr.

      • RustyRaven@aussie.zone ⁨5⁩ ⁨months⁩ ago

It does not seem to be an across the board thing, just Suncorp and AAMI (apparently Suncorp bought AAMI recently, so basically the same company). And RACV had lower premiums for including fire & theft than without.

The comprehensive insurance gives you a few more options with excess and amount insured and I thought it might be the difference, but even making sure the excess was the same it was cheaper to have comprehensive. I won’t complain - but I will budget for an increase next year in case it is a one-off glitch that won’t be repeated!

Requests for feedback on online orders are getting beyond ridiculous. This time they want to know how we like a Thing 6 hours before the notice it would land today. I also now know what my Solstice gift is, but that will happen when letting somebody else use your account.

How long does it usually take to hear back from a place once they’ve moved on to reference checks? Or is asking for references a sick new part of the selection process instead of the last step for the selected candidate?

I watched How to make gravy last night. The storyline was a bit meh. I found it lacking in flavour. Not a lot of substance. Not bad, not great, just ok.

Wind picks up and theres 3 drops of rain and immediately the staffy is pawing at my window with an expression of “I cant POSSIBLY survive in these conditions!”. She is an outside dog ffs. But the blame should be assigned to me cause I folded and let them in again.

Dilemma. I am rostered in the office today. Thought I was getting the flu yesterday. Feeling ok today but one side of my throat is quite sore and it’s all red. Maybe mild tonsillitis?? Never had that mild tho… maybe just allergies??

I think I need to WFH to be safe don’t I? Bum. I had a whole heap of stuff I need to do in person…

I hate in-between not quite sick. Make a decision body

    source
    • Force_majeure123@aussie.zone ⁨5⁩ ⁨months⁩ ago

In my last job there was a solid 9 month period where my employer refused to accept that there was now a third degree of sickness. Instead of just “fit to work” and “not fit to work”, there is clearly a new category now - “fit to work, but only from home”. Took them a long time to accept that and many spent sick days.

      source
      • imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone ⁨5⁩ ⁨months⁩ ago

It is a difficult one to negotiate because there’s definitely that third category. But then there’s people who insist they can work from home when they are clearly half dead but they are have trouble stopping and there’s others who will WFH/take a late start etc at the slightest hint of discomfort - its too hot/cold/I didn’t sleep until midnight etc. and they see it as a bit of a rest day. And as someone who has always been type 1 I honestly get really resentful at the second group. And yes this is often a battle of X/millenial vs Z which makes it trickier.

Random Q, Baku. How many times have you moved since you’ve been in DT/DDT? (If you don’t mind my asking?)

      source
      • Baku@aussie.zone ⁨5⁩ ⁨months⁩ ago

Only 1 move, actually. I joined Reddit (under my current username) in 2022, and started talking in the DT sometime after that, I think. Only moved from the last place to this one, though in a couple of weeks, that’ll be 2 moves

Unless you count the stays at hotels/BnBs earlier this year when I more or less had to leave this place for my own safety I was in 3 different places (2 hotels, 1 Airbnb) and moved once a week (though tbh that was by my own choice, I could’ve not complained and stayed here, or not asked to go elsewhere and stayed in the first place they put me)

        or,

Since my 11th birthday (<7 years ago), I’ve moved 9 times, 10 if you count this upcoming move, and 13 if you count that + the above hotels)
