Yep and it fucking sucks.

Big Talk with Mum went well. She was worried about some of the same things I was and was relieved I’ve found an option that will work better. Now I just need to make sure there are no major objections from my sister (which I am not anticipating) and we can start actually putting future plans in to place.
It will be a relief getting this all sorted. Having older parents is a double worry, both the direct worry about health problems etc. and also the worry that you don’t have the power/authority to actually do anything to help prevent problems, but will be suddenly put into the position of trying to sort everything out in the middle of a crisis if something goes wrong.

I was absolutely famished when I got home and noodled around on my phone in my car (seriously, does anyone else here just love spending ages sat in the car after coming home? I live alone, but procrastinating in the car hits differently.)
But despite that and the cold I am proud to say I walked a TINY BIT today (650m each way to the Further Shops and back) when I didn’t have to, as a form of self care that I am usually too negligent to engage in. Maybe I might do it again tomorrow. Take a more circuitous route. I’m so sedentary… I do miss field work :(
melbourne_wanderer@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I absolutely love walking as “self care”. I merge it into my transport where I can - walking from station to office instead of catching trams, getting off the train at a completely different station so I can walk a few km etc - but also walk in the very early hours of the morning when I first wake up. it’s my favourite time of day.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Getting my licence and a car a few years ago definitely made me realise how much I relied on incidental walking for my well-being… having a car has been terrible for my health because of my current lack of self control 😮💨
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I love walking but I have to be careful now 😭

So I reported a profile on Facebook because it was using my name and my profile picture (and different personal details ripped from someone with my name but a higher public profile). I just got an email to say it’s been reviewed and doesn’t go against their guidelines.
The profile picture is literally me. From my old website. And it’s my name. But that’s not an issue?! WTAF?! Can I do anything about this?
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 months ago
send that profile a virus
Taleya@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Reported it as fake imperaonation ?
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Yep. Apparently that’s not enough!

Alrighty. Back home all snuggled in bed with Gibson. Water is back on. Nap time 😴

I want a cat so bad. They’re like portable bed heaters. They’d probably love my electric blanket, too…

你好吗? 今天早上太冷了啊!
wrote that bad boy all by myself(in pinyin anyway). I’m trying to focus on thinking phrases. Things I can think in chinese instead of english to better commit them to memory. So mostly just complaining about the weather.
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Alright. Round 3. Didn’t end up napping today so should get a full night’s sleep and wake up “refreshed” at 6am.
Goodnight everyone ❤️
oztrin@aussie.zone 5 months ago
One of the (many) advantages of moving here is I don’t have to worry about getting up at arse o’clock to open the gates for any deliveries - in this case Coles online.
In other news, my pattern of opposite sleep patterns to the DT continues - I had a restless night and weird dreams while y’all seem to have slept well and peacefully. shrug emojiPeelerSheila@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I thought I was the outlier with sleep patterns! I tend to have weird dreams all the time anyway. Woo! Free movies!
StudChud@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I go to bed early, I wake up early. I’ve been getting a solid 8 or 9 hours lately, but I’m still tired.
I can only blame so much on the weather. Perhaps I am hibernating, perhaps I am the bear lol
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 months ago

I sleep well until the pain meds wear off. More meds. Then I sleep well again for longer because my nerves and muscles have finally calmed.

Everytime I go on Reddit I feel myself getting shittier and shittier. I know that not following current events is sticking ones head in tyevsand, but it has such an impact.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 months ago
If it doesn’t make me laugh then I’m not interested. That’s what I use reddit for these days.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I recently joined Idiocracy. Not sure if it’s funny or not.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I think Reddit is better/less rabid than than aussie tv …lol
And following what current events? What is popular at the moment, what is being pushed for political reasons, what has had good press releases?
Because there is so much happening in the world and most never hits the newspapers on a regular basis.
Keeping up with current events is more about keeping up with the zeitgeist than anything.
Little of it ever impacts our own lives.
At my old age I just try to see trends and important local news, some foreign news too. 99% I ignore.
wscholermann@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I find myself much more interested by international news.
Aussie news is basically all about housing/interest rates with the odd splash of violent crime.
Like what is Australia’s future exactly? Who do we want to be? What’s our goal? I feel like these questions are rarely answered, to say nothing of actual practical plans to get there.
StudChud@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Engagement is driven by rage. Engagement is also money. Hence, making readers angry enough to comment = profit.
It’s shit. Peeking your head out to check current events is alright, but hopping on the Enragement Engagement Train is a one way ticket to feeling bad all the time.

Had the weirdest ‘sleep’ these last two nights. It’s been a struggle to get to sleep and when I do I feel like I have been awake the entire time, like my mind is still going and only my eyes are closed.
Yet I am not tired at all so I must be actually sleeping but it is a really weird feeling.

this was me during my brush with covid, but seems like a lot of people having the same issues.

Must be post effects/long covid. I havent been (noticably) sick for ages.

Absolutely wild night of dreams and trips to the loo (uh oh, last time that happened was hit by el rones a day or so after).
None of them made any sense and moved so fast. Get back from the loo, head hits pillow and bam, jump straight back into a very strange dreamworld.
And hyper sensitive hearing… Road noise dead of night was super deafening. In the shower this morning the white noise from the water led me to hallucinate that was I listening to carnival music ever so slightly in the background. I mean it was catchy, but I would’ve preferred a different genre.
I hope I’m not going mad yikes.
Lowkey though hope that happens again tonight (except the loo part)… Free trip!

I had an uncomfortable dream last night. I don’t really remember what it was, just that it made me uncomfortable and creeped out and I felt weird when I woke up. I think @bacon@aussie.zone was lying to us about having a good sleep

But my god I’m so zoned out lol

Yesterday I started watching YouTube on my phone then I thought why not watch it on my tablet. Then today I thought why not through the TV you fucking dimwit. Seriously, I turned the TV down, set up my tablet on the foot stool to watch while laying down with the dog and no one said anything to me.
Baku@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I hate YouTube on TVs, and really smart TVs in general. It’s always so laggy, and I haven’t quite worked out how to sideload apps onto them so have been stuck with 50 ads so I just don’t watch them.
Plus I feel like YouTube videos are almost always made to be watched on a computer at biggest, so blowing them up to a 55" screen never looks right to me, and a lot of videos aren’t in 4k.
There’s also a creator I watch who doesn’t have stabilisation on his camera and I can’t watch him on anything bigger than a phone screen or I get motion sick (even though I don’t normally get motion sick)

Bro! I HATE smart TVs, and youtube is the bane of my existence! I can do an hour or 2 on how shit the whole thing is EASY.

Another day, another box of tissues.
I made the joke to the mrs that it was like I was 14 again. I swear to god we were going through a box a day between the 3 of us, plus the ones the toddler was ripping up for fun.
Baku@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I went through so many tissues at the hotels we were at. In Mildura on Sunday alone I went through 2 boxes + half a roll of toilet paper. Monday night I went through a box plus a roll of toilet paper. The bin they gave us at both of them was tiny so I was basically doing runs to the toilet solely to get rid of all the tissues. Then when I got home I’ve only gone through 1 and a half boxes in a week

arm fell off my glasses, tried putting the screw back in, the little holes won’t line up , so it’s back to the optician to get it fixed
damn that was frustrating …lol
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 5 months ago
You gave me a flashback to when I was flat stoney broke and the arm of my specs was too… I ended up stripping the plastic off one of the plastic coated wire bag ties that come with kitchen tidy/freezer bags and using that wire, threading it through both parts and twisting it until it was tight enough to hold.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 months ago
That sounds like an excellent stop gap. Thank you. 💖

I’ve ol’ man cricked my back, but it’s weirdly intriguing because it’s clearly muscles and not the actual spine, which is where I’m used to having my back go (having broken it nearly 20 years ago). Fascinating.

warm bath, then booze and a back rub will fix that

Movie review time. A Murder of Quality. Thames telemovie written by John Le Carre and with an all star cast. So many stars I couldn’t guess who the murderer was! Anyway, murder comes to St Custards and George Smiley is asked by a friend to snoop around.
It’s really well done, quite enjoyable if you like Sherlock Holmes style who dunnits interspersed with the usual Le Carre talk about “the gays in MI6”.
3 hobbits.
If Lindsay Anderson and John Osborne had a bastard baby it would be Charlie Bubbles. The painfully artsy Italian movie music made me want to cut my ears off with a rusty shiv. Why?
This movie is 10 years too late if it wanted to show “real” life and thumb it’s nose at the establishment. If it didn’t try to be artsy or tell a message it would probably have been ok.
Watch If, Alfie and Look Back in Anger instead.
1 hobbit , it pointed the camera in the right direction and the lips synched with the sound.

Does anyone have reccos for a decent pair of men’s shoes that will last a while? I’ve had my pair of newbalances for a year and a half and the soles are falling apart and I don’t even walk that much. I had a pair of Nike airs for about 3 years until they got irreversibly shrunk in the washer (+ grew out of them), but I’m not looking to go that flashy.
Budget’s around $300 max, but I’m concerned with durability more so than anything else.
(It’s not the 1940s so I don’t care about wearing women’s or unisex shoes either, as long as they come in larger sizes and preferably don’t have sparkles)
Taleya@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Aku hiking boots. I’m literally still wearing a pair I bought i n 2009. And I wear them all the fucking time
danwritesbooks@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Aku hiking boots
Gee they look nice. Might have to save up for a pair.
Baku@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Are they like a big boot, or a shoe (runners)? I have a pair of work boots I got from Kmart a few years ago that are still going well, but I don’t wear them much these days. I’m looking for more of an all purposes type shoe
StudChud@aussie.zone 5 months ago
The other day, while out and about, I saw an older person with the telltale silver paint all over their gob. Like a junkie Homer Simpsons 3 o’clock shadow.
It looked ridiculous, and was sad, but the constant “gub gub gub gub” sound they made almost had me in fits. Not laughing at them, just a wild sight to see.
