      Hi. I make fun of this too but it’s worth pointing out that Mojang does 100x the work to the game’s internals for speed, stability, modability, etc. It’s effectively a completely different codebase from version 1.0

    Games independent of Steam are good, so that way if Steam even collapses for whatever reason...Not all games are lost! Not every game needs to be on Steam.

      God damnit! How am I going to play RuneScape now that it’s on steam! It’s on steam so it can’t possibly be available anywhere else!(I’m just taking the piss. I agree with where you’re coming from)

    Minecraft in Steam would be a downgrade in every way (Minecraft already has no DRM, lets you freely download and play old versions, doesn’t require the official launcher to start, is easily modded, and so on).

      I don’t see how Steam would make any difference.

      • Implementing any kind of DRM is the game developer’s prerogative.
      • Allowing other versions is possible, again, at the developer’s convenience.
      • No other launcher needed besides Steam (and Steam is very far from being only a launcher)
      • Steam Workshop (because fuck Forge)

      Ah yes, the famous DRM.

      Some launchers allow you to play fully offline, but only after you’ve authenticated and started the game at least once with a real Microsoft account. The launcher has a sophisticated validation mechanism to ensure this: it is stored in a boolean value in a JSON file.
