Hang on, my audio processing disorder just let me understand the seventh time you said it just now.

I’m so glad people who know me have started to respond to my “what?” With just nothing.

Because it usually only takes 30 seconds or so to catch my brain up, but if I just wait that 30, I’m being rude..

They could repeat as many times as they want in that span and I won’t get it, and the repetition actually makes it harder to process for me, so them just doing nothing is the perfect ideal. If I repeat my question after letting it process, they know to repeat what they said, but the first one is usually pointless filler to keep from being seen as disengaged, which makes one seem disengaged anyway.

Well that’s just a healthy attitude is what that is. Strong and independent!

Maybe the speaker should have had something more interesting to say, did they ever think about that?

if someone is talking to me while I’m trying to read something, I retain nothing.

i cannot multitask. my brain just can’t do it. i used to work at a place that had ear radios on while on shift. if I was talking to a customer and someone said my name on the radio, I’d just flip the thing out of my ear and keep focusing on the customer.

got in trouble a lot for that one XD. sorry, boss. i can’t split focus. you’ll have to wait.

That’s weird. I’m the opposite. I HAVE to be doing 20 things, or my brain shuts off, and I put a shoe in the oven.

I can remember in the year 2000, I was online playing Ultima Online, with a second monitor open for internet browsing, and talking on AIM, while at the same time a TV was on and I was watching the Cleveland Indians take on the Chicago White Sox. While in picture in picture, I had WWF Monday Night Raw on.

Bottom of the 3rd, 2 outs, Jim Thome coming to the plate. He’s been slightly off this year, NICE! I just found more iron ore in the mines, and HHH just gave Mick Foley a pedigree, Oh, my friend says there’s some raiders in Minoc trying to kill miners for their ore. And according to this post on nintendopower.com’s online forums, this guy says the face of Donkey Kong is etched into the side of a mountain in Goldeneye! Well, Rare DID make both games…could be an easter egg…see? Thome pop fly’d out. Unbelievable! Also, why does WWF and MLB both go to commercial at the same time? I could be flipping the pictures while the other is at commercial, but NOOOOO!!! Now I have Llama on my way to Britainia. BANK!

And that’s how my brain is going at all times. half a second focus here, half a second focus there, and then it blends. Both focuses at the same time. And the more focus’s I have, the faster it goes. Pretty sure I could ride a unicycle while juggling buckets of water, and pluggged in toasters. Despite never having juggled, and never having rode a unicycle. It would just be the thing I’m currently doing as I do the other things.

But then if I ever try to focus on just one thing? Ok…let’s just tie our shoes…uhhhhhh…what were we doing, and why is the house on fire?

Having a conversation with me while there’s a dog in my line of sight

I’m going to start dressing up like a dog. And you’ll know it’s just a middle aged guy. Standing in a dog costume. Outside your window. For no reason.

You’ll know all of that is true. But I’m still going to stand there. Still going to distract you. And eventually you’re going to come over and question me. That’s when I’m going to jump on top of you, and start licking your face, and humping your leg.

You’ll be disgusted. You’ll try to file a police report. You’ll be insistent that this guy just won’t leave you alone. But everyone else except you will not see a man in a dog costume. They’ll see a dog. They’ll wonder why you’re being an asshole to this friendly dog. Then your girlfriend will be like “What is WRONG with you??? I’m going to bring the dog to my apartment for the night. I don’t think he should be around you right now…”

And that’s when I turn to you, and say “Yeah man. I’m going home with your girl. Gonna sleep in her bed while you’re away. Hump a little leg, if ya know what I’m saying!!! Ha ha ha!”

You’ll point and say “SEE?? DID ANY OF YOU HEAR THAT??? HE’S TRYING TO STEAL YOU FROM ME!!!” and your girl will be like “What’s gotten into you??? I think it may be time for therapy…”

It’s at that moment you look and see a small frog on the grass. And you say “Oh, and I’m sure YOU are going to start singing and dancing now???” to which the frog replies “…what?”

I am completely focused, unfortunately a moderate amount of background noise, fatigue, or cross-talk will make everything you say immediately gibberish to me, as I’m standing there listening to it. After the second repeat I start guessing based on the words I’ve managed to pick out and hope I’ve either gotten it right or that it will cue them that they need to rephrase it or use more words or something. It’s quicker than explaining what auditory processing disorder is or that I have problems understanding speech even though I don’t look old (and technically don’t have a hearing problem).
