Does it bother you? Do you like finding the answers for OP?
Search on the internet has been completely broken by search providers and it’s getting worse all the time. I’m old enough to have opinions on Alta Vista vs Lycos, so I get that I might still have some tricks up my sleeve the kids these days are unaware of. I am bothered, but by what Google and Microsoft are doing, not by Gen Z kids who can’t figure out how to circumvent their enshittification.

Even the good search options aren’t as good as they used to be. And Google has turned to utter shit.

i think answers here are more than a solution to a problem. its part of the lifeblood communication of the community.
is there low hanging fruit? yep. but thats also your opportunity for engagement.

If you’re bothered by other people asking questions in an online forum, it’s well past time to log off and go outside for a bit. Especially in a community named “No Stupid Questions”, its reasonable to expect a lot of low quality questions. The thing which can make that interesting is that, sometimes it can spark interesting conversation. But, there will be a lot of noise to sift through to find it.
If you don’t like a question, ignore it and move on. If you really must get your knickers in a twist, downvote and move on. If someone (or a bot) is spamming a bunch of low effort questions, block the user and move on. Watch, it’s easy, I click on the down arrow next to your name, click “Block User” and bingo, I never an bothered by you again.
I completely understand the desire to ask other humans for help in this dystopian nightmare where human interaction is growing rarer and rarer.

It does not bother me at all. The reason it does not bother me. Is because sometimes things that are easily googled, are also things where if you don’t have the right search words or the right search terms, Google won’t help you. And I’ve had that happen to me. Before I tried and tried and tried to find an answer and I couldn’t find it. Once I got the answer that I pushed that into Google oh there it is right there for me.
Sometimes people prefer to talk to other people instead of googling. Given you’re not actually talking to anybody you’re typing into a forum, but still point is. So it doesn’t bother me. And if I have a chance and I know the answer, yeah I’ll answer.
Mostly I don’t care, but I will make an exception for that certain user who loves to post their most inane thoughts and queries here 20 times a day every single day.
It depends on the nuance. Asking about basic, factual information? Yeah, that’s what search engines are for. Asking about something with a fairly well defined answer but there are varying opinions worth a conversation? Sure, this is the place.
Don’t ask me what year Abraham Lincoln was born. But if you want to know how successful he was? There are plenty of statistics you could look up, but also a lot of opinions on what success looks like and how valuable his actions actually were. Worth discussing.

I think it depends, but it’s mostly fine. Like others have said, search algorithms have gotten enshittified and can’t always be relied on for relevant and reliable info anymore. There is of course some stuff that is so basically factual that you could probably just search the term and look at whatever pops up on Wikipedia, but most questions aren’t that simple and often require answers with context and nuance, ideally with the ability to ask follow up questions for clarification.
It’s also a bit of a social experience and sometimes you will get other related discussions growing out of the question.
However, as everyone knows, the best way to get an answer on the internet is not to ask a question, but to state the incorrect answer.

If someone has a problem with people posting questions then they obviously shouldn’t even be coming to this community.
I assume any questions posed are looking for human answers from real human experience. If I answer by search I try to mention it as it should be taken with a grain of salt. I mean all answers should but I just like to make it clear my level of knowledge of the thing.

Engines might (if you can fight your way though the crap) give you a factual answer but people can give you that plus opinions and context and personal experience.
I don’t like it. Why should I put more effort into answering OP’s question than OP? To me, it’s like they’re saying my time is less valuable than theirs.
i assume they are dumb. or they didn’t get the answer they wanted easily, so they want people to tell them what they want to hear. and they are also dumb.
and when you look at their replies, if they reply, it’s almost usually always the latter, and they will argue and get hostile to anyone who tells them what they don’t want to hear.
basically, it’s for folks who are seeking bias-confirmation. and they get REALLY REALLY angry if you don’t confirm their biases.
It doesn’t bother me. Sometimes it’s more useful to know what people think about issues surrounding the question than it is just to have the answer.
I have no problem with people answering other folks questions. While you can “do your own research”, it’s nice to see the different slants of perspective that hover around the basic truths.
Perhaps they want others opinions on the matter, or some information not heard of before, or from someone learned on the subject, or they are lonely. There’s nothing wrong with it at all
