- Comment on How is Alexander the Great so great he gets that name, but not so great that just “Alexander”doesn’t disambiguate him? 2 weeks ago:
His family name became a title for future Emperors.

He’s trolling, yeah. I understood that.
He’s called that because that’s what he’s called.
Why is your username Blue Morpho? because that’s what you chose.
- Comment on How is Alexander the Great so great he gets that name, but not so great that just “Alexander”doesn’t disambiguate him? 2 weeks ago:
No, it’s because he conquered the known world.
- Comment on Why is Yemen still poor unlike its neighbors? 2 weeks ago:
lack of political stability is the primary reason
- Comment on What’s the difference between communism and socialism? 2 weeks ago:
dude it took years for anyone to get a car. shortages of basic things like office supplies were common outside of the government, etc
it was shit outside of military production, because basically it all went to military production.
- Comment on Why is the US so into Israel? 2 weeks ago:
jewish culture values education and creativity, that’s why. asian population also has higher incomes, but they don’t value creativity so they don’t really make it in media.
- Comment on Why is the US so into Israel? 2 weeks ago:
they don’t care about it. anymore than your grandma cares about the latest video games coming out.
and if you talk about it to them they will acknowledge it politely and change the topic because they are not interested in your weird obsession
- Comment on Why is the US so into Israel? 2 weeks ago:
evangelicals and jews in the USA are far more political active though than the majority of the citizenry.
- Comment on Why is the US so into Israel? 2 weeks ago:
I mean, that’s the same rational the Russia has. buffer states, surrounded by hostiles, etc.
How does he feel about the war in Ukraine?
- Comment on What’s the difference between communism and socialism? 2 weeks ago:
this is the only good comment in this entire thread so far.
- Comment on What’s the difference between communism and socialism? 2 weeks ago:
USSR’s success was largely fueled my mass murder, political oppression, and lying about economic growth.
they were ‘good’ at centralizing power to achieve certain goals, like military and the space race, but their economy outside of such priority areas, was in shambles. their agricultural and industrial capacity was terrible.
- Comment on What’s the difference between communism and socialism? 2 weeks ago:
yes, kibbutz, amish, etc. small deeply religions communities are communist and socialist in their society and it’s governance.
these are genuinely socialist/communist ways of living. they also are religious fundamentalists.
- Comment on What’s the difference between communism and socialism? 2 weeks ago:
Colloqually there isn’t one. They are just two interchangable words for ‘bad’.
In reality, they are entirely different political systems, though they have some overlapping ideas.
Further there has never genuinely been a socialist or communist state in reality. There have been small, often isolated, communities that embody both systems though.

bankruptcy isn’t a bad thing from which you never recover or improve.
it’s a financial instrument that allows an entity to restructure it’s debt obligations, usually to make them go from being impossible to meet to possible to meet. it’s a temporary legal state and it doesn’t last for very long, typically a few years at most.
- Comment on How do department stores decide the designs they want to put on T-shirts 2 weeks ago:
You are thinking too much.
There no significance. Fashion isn’t really about ‘meaning’ it’s about feeling different/superior than the unfashionable around you.
Often ‘being fashionable’ is just standing out from the crowd. As such, UMichigan gear in Europe would make you stand out.
- Comment on [deleted] 2 weeks ago:
yeah.
it’s a fetish/fashion subculture thing. that is strange by definition.
it’s not normal for adults to wear school uniforms as they are not in school.

Not in any objective sense.
But in a pragmatic or functional sense, yes.

They were basically a hedge against USSR in the region for 50+ years. People forget that.
- Comment on Why is the US so into Israel? 2 weeks ago:
USA has the largest Jewish population outside of Israeli. And Jewish people are over-represented in media, government, and other leadership/power positions.
All of the most successful/influential people I have known in my life were Jewish, and very pro-Israeli. The only person I have known who was critical of Israeli was Israelis who were born there. American Jews seems to idealize it, like you said. Because they only go there for birthright.
- Comment on Is the "everyday stuff" supposed to feel normal? Do y'all just have a parent do things then when you're supposed to be the adult you panic? 2 weeks ago:
I was able to do this kind of shit at 13/14. It’s not hard.
- Comment on How do I drink more water? 2 weeks ago:
eventually good habits become self re-inforcing.
I can’t drink mass market soda anymore, it’s disgustingly sweet. some of the smaller boutique sodas have way less sugar and are tasty.
- Comment on How do I drink more water? 2 weeks ago:
learn to enjoy drinking it.
good habits don’t magically happen, you have to use your willpower.
You can also try seltzer or flavored waters if that helps or filtering it. plenty of tap water can taste bad.
I don’t get the whackadole ‘hacks’ people are going on about here. I drink 2-3L of water per day, and 4-5L if I’m active. I drink it because I’m thirsty and it’s delicious.

sometimes it’s not the question that is stupid, but the OP.

No. I don’t know where to start. What AI do I ask? There are so many. I don’t want a bad one.
- Comment on Prolly won;t word this correctly. But when did the idea of a woman subservient to a man begin? And how come it seems its lasted longer that most relgions? 3 weeks ago:
It still is in a lot of places in the world. Not everyone lives in a developed high skilled economy. In fact, only about 20% of the world population does.
- Comment on Prolly won;t word this correctly. But when did the idea of a woman subservient to a man begin? And how come it seems its lasted longer that most relgions? 3 weeks ago:
It never began, it just always was. Likely due to biological differences between men and women and their social roles.
The concept that men and women are equal is fairly short lived, kind of started in the Enlightenment really. The concept of ‘gender identity’ is even newer, it’s really a post WW2 thing.
- Comment on Does anyone know about pope Leo's past in Chicago? Was he a little hell raiser who went straight? Kind of hard to believe someone from Chytown leaves without cause a little shannagans? 3 weeks ago:
When I see questions like this I question my sanity, or at least my reality.
