I love Hasan. I wish more privileged voices were as concise and consistent and forceful on left issues like he is. If there were several dozen more people like him we wouldn’t all have to couch our support for their advocacy with a milquetoast disclaimer about how we don’t even like them.
Hell, I’m a vegan and an anarchist. He regularly throws those aspects of my identity under the bus to offer a fig leaf to the unconvinced in his audience so that they listen to more central leftist ideas, and still I love him for that. He has millions of followers, I cannot fathom how impactful he has been to leftist advocacy all over the world in the past 5 years. I’m so fucking sick of people putting disclaimers on their support for him. I don’t even sub to him and I love the guy.
ceenote@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Don’t get me wrong, he seems like a good guy, but react streamers are objectively the lowest form of entertainer.
Varpeggio@lemmy.zip 2 weeks ago
He thinks “ I have a pretty big audience, I better endorse DNC candidates to ensure I don’t push the needle too far left” and that fucking sucks.
jimmy90@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
So you’d agree with him that the UK is now a fascist state
You love a con man
ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
The people that need to actively attack Hasan in this day and age are almost categorically active supporters of this current status quo.
They’re not even just opponents of the left anymore. They’re just present to wreck any civil spaces to cause infighting.

It’s still weird everyone ignores Cenk named his organization after the perpetrators of the Armenian genocide…
Armenian Genocide, campaign of deportation and mass killing conducted against the Armenian subjects of the Ottoman Empire by the Young Turk government during World War I (1914–18). Armenians charge that the campaign was a deliberate attempt to destroy the Armenian people and, thus, an act of genocide. The Turkish government has resisted calls to recognize it as such, contending that, although atrocities took place, there was no official policy of extermination implemented against the Armenian people as a group.

the only reason Hasan has a platform is he’s a nepo nephew…
Hasan’s platform is Twitch and he’s largely built up his following by doing the same influencer circuit as everyone else.
If he’s got any aces up his sleeze, they’re that he’s gorgeous, he’s quick witted, and he got in on the ground floor when DSA was blowing up

I don’t think this is correct, both Hasan and Asmongold are a part of Night Media and I’ve seen no attempt by Hasan to leave. Hasan is also weirdly kiddy-gloved when talking about Asmongold, at least it was like this in the past.
ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
‘Young Turks’ has a more generalized use. It’s even got a disambiguation page on wikipedia.
givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
The swastika is ackshullay an old Indian symbol…
The Young Turks committed multiple genocides, claiming you named it after a different organization named after the originals isn’t the slam dunk you think it is, especially considering how recent the fucking Armenian genocide is

Like Hasan does?
supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 2 weeks ago
What about your lazy attacks even if your perspective was right, justify banning free speech?
You sre pathetic.
teslekova@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
Everyone pointing fingers at the name Young Turks had better not be a fan of Blondie or Joy Division.
SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 2 weeks ago
I sometimes watch TYT with Cenk and I have no clue why the UK decided to ban him over that.
What a bunch of chocolate starfishes…
vagrancyand@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
Because UK is a occupied state under Israel.
bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 2 weeks ago
I would bet it’s only because he is a relative of hasan.
Fizz@lemmy.nz 2 weeks ago
Hes not banned
SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 2 weeks ago
The word banned comes up a lot in the article for him not being banned.
lucidity@hexbear.net 2 weeks ago
When I told my husband some Labour politician is calling for this he said it’s not going to be taken seriously. He was surprised and dissapointed to find out the country that says it’s terrorism to hold a sign also bans even ultra-centrist Cenk Ughyr for not being a zionist.
frankPodmore@slrpnk.net 2 weeks ago
I actually agree with Novara that Piker shouldn’t be barred from entering the UK but this headline is very misleading.
The UK government has said the ban is because of his use of ‘“antisemitic tropes, such as the claim that Israel controls America” and comments about grooming gangs he made on Piers Morgan’s YouTube show’ and because of his support of a ‘proscribed terror group’ (i.e., Hamas). Nothing to do with his support of Palestine (I don’t think that Hamas represents Palestinian.s any more than I think that Putin’s party represents Russians).
Footer1998@crazypeople.online 2 weeks ago
- hasan has been an avowed opponent of anti-semitism for his entire career, he has very consistently made a distinction between zionism and jews
- hasan has never been on piers’ show
- hasan hasn’t supported hamas and he has criticised them for human rights violations, but he has, quite rightly, pointed out that hamas is better than israel, because israel has killed 80,000+ innocent civillians in palestine as part of their genocide, whereas hamas is a resistance movement against a nuclear state supported by the world’s largest military superpower
theo@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I actually agree with you, but this comment is misleading. The UK Government has said none of those things and has not made any statement on this as referenced by “The Home Office has been contacted for comment.”
The first quote was from The Community Security Trust, and the second from The Times.
frankPodmore@slrpnk.net 2 weeks ago
Well, I actually agree with you, but actually the first quote was from The Times and the second quote was from Labour MP David Taylor.
I just thought it was fair to extrapolate that the reasons the government banned him were the same as those who publicly called for the ban, not separate reasons that no one who actually supports the decision has cited.
zedcell@lemmygrad.ml 2 weeks ago
Support for Palestine that isn’t completely toothless requires supporting their right to violently resistance their occupation. Because the UK gov proscribes any group that attempts to achieve that end, they have effectively barred support for the Palestinian right to freedom from the occupation.
afc@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks ago
Just like Tyler the creator… Hasan and cenk must be a couple years away from a seminal album
makingrain@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Good. We don’t need helmets like that entering our land to spread their ridiculous unrealistic viewpoints.

Them: “Stop killing innocent civilians. Killing innocent is bad, m’kay?”
-
You: “We don’t need helmets like that entering our land to spread their ridiculous unrealistic viewpoints.”
History, in the making, and you loudly declare you wanna be on the wrong side. Interesting choice.
makingrain@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I’m a harm-reduction voter, I’m a lesser evil voter, and therefore I would vote for Hamas over Israel every single time.
That’s the kind of shit they were blocked by the Home Office for. An actual quote, not your made IP bollocks.

So you don’t believe in Free Speech?
Are you a coward too afraid to let Hasan’s words reach your precious ears lest they change your mind?
Or are you just an authoritarian who pretends they care about things other than retaining power and control over what is allowed and what isn’t in society?
Fizz@lemmy.nz 2 weeks ago
Hassan and Cenk do paid agitprop for the UK’s adversaries. Why should any country let them come over and tour around the country undermining the government and bolstering conspiracy and driving extremists on both sides. Bet there here to do their favourite thing, undermine a liberal left government so the far right can win.
vagrancyand@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
The UK is not under a liberal left government, and if you think Labor is even close to not being far right you’re actually deluded.
bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 2 weeks ago
it can’t be far right because it has labour on his name 🤓
Enkrod@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
“Labour is far right”, you heard it here first folks.
Sure, they’re not left enough by any definition, but far right and not even close to not being far right?
infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 2 weeks ago
His name is 5 letters long and is right there in the post title and you still can’t get it right. Reminds me of Fox News hosts intentionally stumbling over and mispronouncing “Mamdani”.

they’re* When you make dumb mistakes on something so easy it makes you look like you’re not well read. If your inane take wasn’t enough, that definitely gives it away.
Tiresia@slrpnk.net 2 weeks ago
Hassan and Cenk do paid agitprop for the UK’s adversaries.
Considering the UK is supporting genocide, maybe the UK’s adversaries are in the right here, and agitprop is good because it might put a stop to genocide?
infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 2 weeks ago
The west has stopped quietly committing genocide against the wishes of it’s people, started forcibly and loudly committing genocide against the desperate cries of it’s people.
givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
And Cenk still won’t change the name of his media organization from the perpetrators of the Armenian genocide he spent most of his life denying…
Even know, he just admits the Aremenian genocide could be considered a genocide. But refusing to change the name of his company.
I don’t know how or why genocide deniers are ever considered “the good guys”.
Loads of conflicts is two groups of assholes fighting.
But there are podcasters out there who don’t support any genocide too…
infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 2 weeks ago
Omg shut the fuck up, we know he’s a hypocrite. Everyone here agrees with you. But this is a much larger issue than one dildo’s genocide denial. You’re effectively muting discussion about ever-more authoritarian western governments unilaterally silencing dissent in favor of your pet soapbox. I’m willing to bet that everyone in this thread is 100% in agreement with you about Cenk but for the love of god please have a sense of priorities.
jimmy90@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
And you support the genocidal terrorists, and Jew hating conspiracy fantasies just like the Piker family
Congratulations how far up the radicalisation rectum would you day your head is?

Jews who support Israel are traitors to their own culture.
Eat shit.
AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
The Israel regime is deliberately fostering hate against Jews to bolster their domestic power. They are literally antisemites.
