Strongly suggest not telling anyone when you make such a decision. Keep it to yourself, worj privately, and keep going until someone else comments (and then keep going).
Telling people gets their praise, then you have a false sense of accomplishment and motivation gets sapped.
Completely projecting. Maybe you’re already doing this, what do I know? But maybe it’s a helpful perspective, so I said it anyway.

It’s the other way around for me. Telling people holds me accountable and adds some external pressure.

Yeah this is often advice given for any love changes (weight loss, stopping smoking etc) as getting support from others is usually really helpful plus it gives more accountability.

I experienced this myself for sure. Just do the thing and get into it. Also helps make sure youre really doing it for yourself.

Drugs and a heavy injury is all I needed. Lost 20kgs (44 lbs) in two weeks and haven’t ever regained them.
jaybone@lemmy.zip 3 weeks ago
Usually people gain weight because of those things.
sfxrlz@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Yeah well the drugs in question are cigarettes and weed. And the weight lost was mostly muscles. /s in case anyone couldn’t tell Would not recommend a permanent nerve injury just to fucking lose some weight

I injured my back and had great difficulty leaving my bed for a long time. As a result, I stopped adequately feeding myself. Previously I would eat three meals a day, including one between midnight and 2am (when my family was asleep). Getting from my bed to the kitchen involved going down and coming back up a flight of stairs, which was a major ask with my injury.
As a result, besides a few non perishable snacks I kept on my nightstand, I ended up pretty much just eating what my wife was available to prepare and bring to me. She is loving and caring. I literally don’t know what I would or even could have done without her support. However, we have a kid and my wife has a life, so she wasn’t always around when I was hungry; in general, that meant I was mostly eating one full meal a day. It was not uncommon for me to have under 1000 calories.
I’m not exactly sure of the timeframe (or what I weigh now), but I lost thirty pounds.
