"Watermelon. Earthmelon. Firemelon. Airmelon. My grandmother used to tell me stories about the old days, a time of peace when the Avamelon kept balance between the melon tribes. But that all changed when the Firemelons attacked.

Stupid English. I read “windmelon” as wind(1), not wind(2). I couldn’t figure out how you could wind a melon.
- as in turning and twisting
- as in moving air

windmelon is just a watermelon that has been sitting too long before you eat it

I can see something spicy as firemelon. Like ginger or something something bright like Tiger Melon… Earthmelon makes me think of squash. Its windmelon that doesn’t really conjure anything. I just see apples in my mind cause they falling apples and gravity.

In Chinese watermelon is called 西瓜(west melon) and wintermelon is 冬瓜 (winter melon) but the first word sounds like 東 (east). Pumpkins are called 南瓜 (south melon) and in some places a certain squash is called 北瓜 (north melon)
wabasso@lemmy.ca 5 days ago
Is the Winter and East thing a forced coincidence in search of the quadfecta, or is there actually colder climate in eastern China(?) ?
RandomStickman@fedia.io 5 days ago
It's not forced, just a coincidence. There are loads of homophones in Chinese so it's easy to make puns like that.
