Nobody sees me getting up every morning, eating well, doing my coursework, applying for placements; because I do none of those things. Not yet, anyway.

As soon as I conquer the depression, sleep disorder, financial trouble, and generalised anxiety, it’s over for you hoes.

I’m currently in the middle of a workout, doing endless sets of dead bugs as remedial core work so I can eventually have bigger lifts and better climbing performance.

This kind of attitude (like, the one the meme is joking about, not the meme itself) annoys me, since I feel like it ultimately sets back most of the people it is supposedly trying to inspire.

Like, waking up at 4am is dumb for almost everyone, almost all the time - especially if your goal is to work out. Your body needs a certain amount of sleep to recover and function well, and shorting it sleep to get more training in is likely setting you back more than giving you gains. And if you are getting the same amount of sleep total each day anyway… why not just wake up later and get your workout in in the afternoon? If you are really that crunched for time and stressed out, the optimal solution is more likely to simply reduce the number of workouts per week. More recovery time means both less overtraining, and a better training stimulus with each workout since you are more rested going into it.

Hey a fellow climber. At first I thought how odd but most climbers are nerds and most of Lemmy is nerds so probably loads of climbers on here.

Do you know of any climbing subs on here?

In my twenties I’d wake up at 4am, hit the gym, work pulling wrenches until around 2-2:30, get home and do chores for an hour or two, eat, go for a run, shower, then watch tv, play video games, or go out with friends. I don’t live a completely sedentary life but I do work at a desk all day. I go for a couple walks every day and complete my chores. It’s not that I’m a constantly exhausted heap as I approach fifty but there’s absolutely no way my energy levels are close to what they were twenty years ago. My joints swell up if I push myself too hard and my muscles take longer to heal/recover. It’s still worth doing the things but I’m going to be watching my step and make sure I have my footing these days when twenty years ago I wouldn’t have cared if I slipped down a few rungs on a ladder if it saved me thirty seconds getting down.

        I’m the opposite of this.

I’m 43 in a few weeks and have more energy and are fitter than ever really.

Climb 2-3 times a week, run 3 times a week and walk a hell of a lot.

I used to get up at that time because work hours made me. I tried going to the gym after work, but I was usually spent by then. Working out before work also made me work better.

So, 4.30am it was. For years. No regrets, except that I can no longer do it.

I agree there are edge cases. I just think it shouldn’t be billed as the ultimate productivity solution to the average person.

A slow cooker and an ability to eat the same thing every day makes meal prep incredibly simple for me lol

Every Sunday I spend like 20 mins prepping the food for the slow cooker, pop it in, and then I walk away for 3 hours. Lunch for the whole week done!

I have 2 that I bounce between if I ever do feel like changing things up.

2 chicken breasts, half a sweet onion/Vidalia sliced, 8 oz can of sliced mushrooms, 14oz can of mixed vegetables, 28oz can of “small red beans.” I don’t measure seasoning so all I can say is: one metric fuckton of paprika, sprinkle of cayenne pepper, 1/8 metric fuckton of curry powder, 1/8 metric fuckton of granulated garlic, decent sprinkle of garlic salt or regular salt, drizzle of olive oil

The other I don’t have the cans for this week so I’m not sure of the volume, but similar size to the beans just chickpeas/garbanzo beans instead, same vegetables, same mushrooms, same onion, similar size can of the vegetables but of collard greens. 1/2 metric fuckton of granulated garlic, 1/2 metric fuckton of dried parsley, decent sprinkle of garlic salt or regular salt, drizzle some olive oil and small drizzle of soy sauce. Same 2 chicken breasts.

I usually start beans on the bottom, sliced onion, then chicken and seasoning, then the veggies on top. For the chickpea one I pour the liquid from the can in there as well, apparently it’s a decent source of protein. Obviously you don’t need the collard greens or mushrooms if you don’t like them, I just made these recipes up they didn’t come from anywhere specific.

Get pork shoulder from the grocery store. Usually sold in, like, 10lb hunks for $2 per lb. Super cheap. Get a can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce from the mexican section. Put the whole hunk in the slow cooker and dump the peppers and sauce over it. Put it on low before you leave for work. At dinner time, pull the pork apart with 2 forks to shred it. You have taco meat for at least a week for one person.

Nobody sees the passive income and the flush bank account. Because my passive income is searching couch cushions and my bank account is an NSF check magnet.

Not the point of OOP. The point is that people often see success (say, doing well in a marathon or whatever) and discount it by saying the person is naturally good at whatever. Then they compare to themselves, and use the difference in outcome to claim that the person who is doing better just has some uncontrollable advantage over themselves. The meme tries to subvert this idea by pointing out that while the result is all you see, what you don’t see is all the hard work and sacrifice that went into achieving the goal.

4am workout sounds incredibly bleak, you’d have to be basically a pro athlete to make that worthwhile.
