Things that don’t follow the way I understand physics and technology to work. I enjoy sci-fi stuff a bit but when it doesn’t ’work’ I have trouble suspending disbelief and enjoying. Time travel is an easy example, I find most media with time travel to be exceptionally frustrating and taxing. Pending space, worm holes, silent floating and fast aircraft’s. An antidote just immediately saving the world without any protection or logistic considerations, just magical gets into everyone’s systems so the world is saved. It can make brainstorming really difficult for me. I’m not sure if those examples help or not, it’s what immediately came to mind, I’m sure there’s better.

I think I might have an imagination fault in addition to ‘can’t see things in my mind’ (which I thought was completely made up that people could just picture things in their head, it still freaks me out even though I’ve accepted it). I can imagine things of course but only in like a practical reality sense. Like my mind doesn’t have a bridge to ‘maybe’ kinds of theory unless I can make it make sense along the way. That’s not to say I don’t imagine things that make sense in my head that would be complete disasters, because I do, regularly, and peer review has saved me countless times. I don’t know how to explain but the more I hear about how other people’s brains work it makes me think mine is broken and constrained significantly for some reason.

I get as much enjoyment from technical books that I read for career and personal reasons as I do fiction, so I usually read non fiction as it at least has a purpose for me. I wonder how much is related to my not being able to visualize anything.

I understand and agree with your general point, I don’t believe it’s counter intuitive but accept than many people do. In any case, you used range distance disparities too close together to be accurate with a shift from a 5 to 10 mpg split. I’ll just covert to a unit per distance, as you referenced (gallons per 100 miles): 15 mpg = 6.67 gallons per 100 miles 20 mpg = 5 gallons per 100 miles 30 mpg = 3.33 gallons per 100 miles 40 mpg = 2.5 gallons per 100 miles
As calculated upgrading from 15 mpg to 20 mpg would take 1.67 fewer gallons to go 100 miles while upgrading from 20 mpg to 30 mpg would also take 1.67 fewer gallons to go 100 miles. Upgrading from 30 mpg to 40 mpg would only further reduce fuel required to go 100 miles by 0.83 gallons.
Again, I with your broader point, 15 to 20 being the same improvement as 20 to 30 is likely just as impactful and also accurate.

Both of my sons sit, I stand. I’m not sure what I did to deserve such considerate children as they just started doing it on their own before my oldest we even ten but bathroom upkeep was improved so much. I try to be conscious and careful and I still always wipe the rim with toilet paper after before I wash my hands unless the toilet is gross af.

I enjoy the design aspect so I spend extra time challenging myself to make it in one run. I sketch everything up in detail and treat it like design me is handling the project of to diy’er me. Unexpected things that can’t really be seen don’t count like rotted joists, missing insulating, or other sub surface stuff but if project manager me fails I have to buy contractor me beer, if project manager me nails it then we celebrate with beer.
It makes things more fun for me but being able to afford what you’re talking about is a very valid point it just inspired me to share the mental game I play on myself to make things more enjoyable.

I have what was a bedroom next to my kitchen. Tiled the floor and painted the walls the same as my kitchen, put a stand up freezer, nice white metal shelves along the walls, a coffee bar by the door, storage bench under the window, and snack table in the center of the room. I can store so much food and ingredients, it’s probably my favorite room of the house. I often just sit on the bench and have a small snack for breakfast with my morning coffee in there.

I still have and play the game sometimes. I would have loved for it to be what I envisioned but it’s still the most enjoyable evolution based game I’ve played. I should look and see what else might be available. I really like the concept.

- Comment on Differences of Opinion by Wendy Cope 2 months ago:
I feel like a lot of topics could be covered in a 1 semester course that explained the scientific method, why it’s important, difference between a theory and idea, statistics, misrepresentation of data, narrative tuning in media and reporting, proven study and information retention methods. Just like a ‘this class is going to teach you to study, research, retain, and grow with the knowledge you learn throughout life better’ course. Right now a these foundational things kind of exist in some capacity but it’s easy to blow over it and just get a grade without realizing what’s actually going on while your teachers are attempting to teach. I don’t know, it’s probably dumb but I think a lot of people don’t have the tools to accept and grow with a knowledge base that is constantly evolving and maturing. So instead of maturing and growing they dig into their preconceived and learned emotional safe space deeper and deeper until they die.

I’m not saying it’s specifically legal, I’m saying the police never pull anyone over for speeding on this particular highway unless they are going over 10mph over or have another reason to stop someone. Almost everyone goes 5 over. A decent amount go 10 over.
- Comment on Be The Sunshine ☀️ 2 months ago:
That actually is illegal where I live though. If you are in the far left lane going the speed limit and not letting someone pass you will get an impeding the flow of traffic ticket for holding up a vehicle trying to go above the speed limit. In my experience that will be prioritized over ticketing the speeding vehicle.

I regularly have my cruise set at 10 over, going 80 on the 70 mph highway. Most people seem to only go like 75. In well over a decade of traveling forty miles each way doing this and not once slowing down when I see a cop in the median have I ever been pulled over. I like when cops are in the median because then jackasses tend to move over. My adaptive cruise keeps me several car lengths back but it’s still annoying that people just hang out going five over in the far left lane when there’s no other cars around. I prefer not to pass on the right but I’m not sitting behind some jackass for miles just because they think they own a lane off the road. It pleases me the dozen or so times I’ve seen a cop whip out and I’m sure they think I’m going to be pulled over for passing on their right going faster than them and so far every single time their dumbass has been the one the cop pulled over.

I kind of like how it’s ever changing and evolving, I know that sours some people’s pickles but I think it’s neat. I like how it incorporates and is built on so many other languages. I enjoyed reading a short story posted here a while ago that progressively walked backwards in time as a language and it was really neat to me. I’m an idiot though so most other languages probably do this also.
