Good night , sweet dreams
and good night every one else too

Today I only did 4,594 steps, which is odd as I went grocery shopping and did laundry 🤔 It was a day where I mostly hung out with the kids cooking and eating though. It is the beginning of my irl birthday week, so given the volume of cakes and treats that will be consumed I don’t hold out much hope of keeping the weight down 😆 It is but one week of the year and I intend to enjoy it without guilt, so I will keep tracking my steps and weight and likely do little else. It’ll be interesting: exactly what is the effect of a week of dietary abandon on my weight? And how long will it take to undo the “damage?” Will I succumb to guilt and exercise to counter the indulgence?

Have a fabulous birthday week!
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 4 hours ago
Thankyou!
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 hours ago
Speaking from a degree of experience 1 week physically isn’t a huge deal. It’s more about being able to come back to the discipline you’ve already created.
I’ve done the whole “I’m doing double gym to make up for the food I shouldn’t have eaten” and I’ll be honest, it’s not a great way to relate to food.
Enjoy your birthday week, have fun and when it’s over just jump back in where you left off :)
Happy birthday week!!!
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 4 hours ago
You’re right. I get into this cycle where I’m really good for a while, exercising and avoiding the treat foods, and then I eventually crack and eat a few things I shouldn’t. Then it’s like I’m all, “well I’ve ruined it all now!” instead of just maintaining consistency. I can’t remember who said it, but they allowed themselves a small amount of treat food regularly because if they didn’t, they’d eventually and inevitably fail their diet in a spectacular way and go on a ravenous treat bingeing rampage. This is an idea I need to adopt I think!
tone212_@aussie.zone 4 hours ago
This is what the consistent steps are for - being able to indulge when you deserve it! Have a great birthday week.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 4 hours ago
True, and thankyou!
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
Home is chaos but I chose to prioritise food and friends this weekend. This week I am aiming to eat fresh and lower fat/sugar. And to get up between 6/6:30 each day. I need to.slot into a rhythm
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
it takes a while to make order from KAOS, I am halfway there and even halfway there feels great
you can do this :)
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
You go girl!
I plan on eating no peanut puffs all week even though I have 10 bags left and I dream about them.

Family movie night over the past 3 days

I love all of those films!!
Se7en is my favourite from that list though, it’s just such a visceral experience!
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
I threw away the yummy new zealand lollies I bought with my b’day money , sigh, I can do this
on a really good note I bought the young seagoons a complete kitchen’s worth of new and near new italian stainless steel cook ware for pennies on the dollar, they are stoked
I also bought a box of hand made ceramic dining for them, a blender, a juicer and a giant good quality microwave
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 7 hours ago
I know there’s the saying with sugary stuff that it it’s in your shopping basket, it’s in your mouth, but surely throwing them out was a bit mean to yourself? Unless you didn’t want them at all or had no restraint?
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 hours ago
no restraint
and Miss Seagoon is bringing in a small quantity in a few weeks so I have something to look forward to

I’ve been a sad slug today. No walk, no pull downs. Trying to at least do some chores to not fall behind.
::: spoiler spoiler It feels like any time I try to join a new group there are invariably adult cliques, and there’s no way to stick up for myself against bitchy people without ending up the focus of escalating drama. And it’s like do I try to adjust or just walk away? It’s really isolating and discouraging. :::
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 hours ago
choose nice groups , just like you choose to be here :)
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 5 hours ago
Yeah, it’s lovely here. It just seems like nice groups are like hens teeth and can be ruined by even one jerk.
I had a nice group irl but it required me to come home through my area after dark and it’s not safe to do that anymore. (The Ubers would be too expensive.)
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
The most exciting thing that’s happened in my suburb all week is that it’s rained heavily.
The even worse part is that I’m excited hahaha
God I miss living closer to the city.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
peace and quiet is a good thing
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 hours ago
Not for me unfortunately. I love the chaos of the city.
I thought I’d like it out here but it’s not for me.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 10 hours ago
3 interviews this week.
Tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday.
There’s definitely a feeling of down heartedness with the rejections but I generally make it to the final round for the ones I’ve proceeded with.
Due to circumstance it’s imperative that I be employed full time, but I know it’s only a matter of time.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
It’s definitely a situation I’m glad to be out of, I’ve always struggled when I’ve needed to get a job. The last time I think it was about three months out of work before I got something, and then I got two offers within the same week!
I’ve got my fingers crossed for you. The search sucks, but you will get there.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 hours ago
It’s funny how it all works out. I’ve had the same experience. Crickets then all of a sudden multiple offers.
Thanks for the kind words :)
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
Hey good luck man! 🍀🤞🏼
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 hours ago

Turns out my friend has a little food processor they never use (hand me down from old relative) so I have scored a food processor at least for a while to test if the ease of bulk chopping beats the pain of storage in a tiny kitchen.
And then I got home and realised I have some gf apple turnovers in the freezer. Coffee snack sorted
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 14 hours ago
I’ve always been a bit ambivalent about food processors. I have found in my current kitchen I have a more convenient spot to put it in which makes it easier to get out of the cupboard, so I am more likely to use it now. But most food processors can only slice or pulverise vegies, so their use case is also a bit limited. I’ve been able to get a dicing attachment for mine which does fabulous evenly sized cubes, but also increases the amount of cleaning and storage space required. I do use it when I’m doing big batches of things, but not much for day to day cooking.
Taleya@aussie.zone 4 hours ago
They’re spectacular if you have a worm farm though. Chuck everything in, mince for wormies
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 14 hours ago
Having a food processor is pretty handy if you make a lot of dips, sauces, pesto, mayo, chopping nuts.
Receiving a freebie is a bonus.

More horror film reviews. Please note that all these films below feature ::: spoiler TW gore to varying degrees, and mental health issues and suicide (especially Fréwaka). :::
V/H/S/Beyond (2024) -4/5 Hobbits
I enjoyed this anthology film, all the segments as well as the framing wrap-around were very intriguing and engaging, except for one which didn’t fit at all with the theme of this being about aliens. Definitely worth a watch, especially for the segment called Stowaway, directed by Kate Flanagan and written by Mike Flanagan (actress and creator, respectively, of Haunting of Hill House, Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Fall of the House of Usher, which is probably why it’s my favourite segment lol)
V/H/S/Halloween (2025) - 1/5 Hobbits
Very meh for me such that I did not finish it. Perhaps this anthology hits harder for audiences that celebrate Halloween, but it felt very tropey and made me feel quite bored.
V/H/S/94 (2021) - 5/5 Hobbits
So far my favourite of the V/H/S anthology film series. Perfectly gory and disturbing, the wrap-around framing was very interesting, and each segment had me on the edge of my seat. This one is definitely not for people who are squeamish, the gore effects are very well done!
Fréwaka (2024) - 5/5 Hobbits
I thoroughly enjoyed this Irish folk horror. Exploring themes of paranoia, the Aos Sí, Magdalene Laundries, and familial ties. Blends the mythology of The Fair Folk expertly with the human emotions of grief and bargaining. No real jumpscares, I won’t go on so as to not spoil too much, but I definitely highly recommend this.
Death Valley (2021) - 2/5 Hobbits
Also meh but I finished this one, so it gets one more star than V/H/S/Halloween. Blending resident evil, Nephilim, zombies, and sci-fi, I would have had a better experience if it just picked a lane and leaned into it instead of trying to everything and making a mediocre film. Watch if you want something on in the background and don’t care about the stupid plot. I’m not sure how the film wanted me to feel about the antagonists - one moment it seemed I should me sympathetic, the next made them completely irredeemably evil, and then switches again and again. MEH
Belzebuth (2017) - 4.5/5 Hobbits
This is the opposite of Death Valley (2021) in that it does pick a lane (Catholicism and demons) and blends it well with a little bit of sci-fi. Great acting on Joaquín Cosíos part, and was pleasantly surprised to see an actor (Tate Ellington) I saw in The Endless (2017) as one of the protags. Well worth a watch if you’re into possession and demon horror. The ending felt like it would be right at home for Catholics who love religious horror (not sure what the overlap is for that haha). Note: this one does feature mass child murder (not actually shown on screen but is the main plot points).

I don’t have Shudder or places to find these but I’ll watch a random B grade horror in solidarity!
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 hours ago
[deleted]StudChud@aussie.zone 6 hours ago
I wish they had the first and second V/H/S films on Shudder, but they do have all the others.
I’m also hanging on for the 30th of Oct because I binged all the Hell House LLC movies and the last one comes to Shudder on that date! I fucking love those films! I haven’t rated Hell House LLC yet but overall the 1st and 4th films are the most solid, with 2 and 3 being only slightly less good. I fucking LOVE found footage horror, and I think it’s why I ADORE analog horror so so much

So after many many months I have finished my listen of all the Terry Pratchett Discworld books in order. Had read a couple before but not the series and the newish penguin audiobooks are great. Such good company as I potter around cooking and stuff. Such incredible storytelling and characters.
Now I am a bit lost. What should I listen to next? Any good long form podcasts or audio series out there? Non fiction is fine but not current affairs. I get enough news and try to limit the doom…I currently have an audible account but might ditch the subscription now this big listen is done…
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 10 hours ago
If you haven’t read April Fool’s Day by Bryce Courteney that’s a really good read. It is a tribute to his son who died of AIDS. It’s sad but it’s very well written.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
Oh man that book was painful
imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
On yes I have read that. Its heart wrenching but very good.

Had some nice sourdough toast for breakfast. It’s been a while since I just had some good bread.
There’s a nice sourdough bakery near us but I stopped making trips there after the kids were born, and they stopped making bread during the week while some roadworks were happening at the train station down the road.

Today is the day I decide I am taking antihistamines for the rest of spring 😢
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 17 hours ago
I decided that a couple of days ago. Today was the day I discovered what I thought was a full foil pack of tablets actually only has 2 left, making shopping for more a bit more urgent than I expected.

Same. I have found my bumper pack of Telfast and have dropped.
