Snuck out of the meet and greet. They can stay in the office, I’d prefer to spend my personal time doing my own thing.

They graciously gave me another week to prepare

Whew that was a super hectic talk-through of whatever shonky slides I already have but it looks like I am mostly there. The power of just slapping up one image with notes on another screen so you can talk as little or as much as needed depending on time!
Looks like my supervisor is pretty flat out marking other stuff next week so it really is hyper-compressed crunch time rest of this week to get the slides to a usable place, then get a 90% draft of the thesis across by latest Tuesday next week.
Ah well, I operate best under pressure and maybe it’s a good target for me to try and get this wrapped up by my RL cake day around that due date as a bonus motivator… time to clear the weekend and get more food ordered! 🦾

Popcorn has 94kcal per serving.
Each bag has 10 servings.
I did not eat 1 serving.Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Yehhh once that bags open they’re all getting eaten. No question.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Calories are to maintain your body and allow you to live life. You’re doing a good job at living
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Consider an air popper if you want lower calorie popcorn. Plus you can make it from a small scoop of popcorn, rather than committing to a whole bag.
Taleya@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Don’t even need an air popper, paper bag and plain kernels in a microwave works fine
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
It’s all happening at Norfland (again). This time a car has driven through it. My local shopping centre is living up to its reputation
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Someone needs to create an annual Norflands bingo card. This would be very easy to populate
Catfish@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
My brain is potentially cooked. Been earwormed by obscene chants from Primary school. No idea who taught us these things but they need a stern talking to!
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Loong beach walk, went to where the mangroves start. Saw two pelicans out of the water and close up, they are BIG, much bigger than I thought.
I’m loving this beach/sea side life, it’s just what I needed to destress. 🙂
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Looks like the tide is way out here compared to your pics, quite a difference!
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
these are part of mud flats/marshland that go quite a distance
pretty much impossible to navigate after this point as it is all salty mud flats, no sandy beach
it’s a nature reserve after this point

melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Physical exhaustion is kicking my arse. I have to gather energy to get up.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Only just got home after a long but mostly productive stretch at uni. I’m almost there with the slides, and I’m actually quite proud of the effort (shock, horror). Doing it has also helped me feel more clear about the flow of my thesis and where all the references should go, so I’m feeling positive about the momentum. Finally! It always only happens near the end, hey…
I’ve also noticed although petrol should be continuing on a downward trend, with everything going on overseas, I feel like they’ll shoot up again any minute now so decided to fill up on the way back at 169. I’m also very sure my rear right tyre has a slow leak from when I was moving house and busted a different tyre. 30 in everything else and 17 in the offending one. Car service and tyre replacement definitely first on the cards when I’m done.

Mac and cheese dinner because I’m an adult! Chocolate yogo for dessert because I’m an adult!
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Does anyone else eat fish n chips with a fork? I can eat them without, I just prefer to use one if I’m at home.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I definitely do this at home. I like not having my fingers all greasy if I want to use the tv remote or phone. Also a must when I’m eating while working on other stuff
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Yes!!! I don’t wanna touch my drink with greasy fingers.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Sometimes
especially if I’m having a salad with it
underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Nope, and I judge people who do.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
That’s fair.
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
If I’m cooking it usually though sometimes I use my fingers for chips.
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Me! If I’m at home, too

Beach. It’s cold, I’ll rug up.
and visiting the other side of the creek today, there are few rocks there and not many sea birds
haven’t really explored that area yet , I’ll take pics ❄️☀️

I tried one of the trails near my place on the way home yesterday. I don’t think I’ll incorporate it into the commute. It was very steep on both ends and a lot of work, even on the ebike at full assist. I’ll keep looking at the trails though, there may be a shortcut that’s a decent balance between hills and cutting out intersections.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Got any rivers? They’re usually nice without intersections.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
There are a couple of creeks around I could follow but none line up with the commute I’m aware of

Rallying the fam to go see the new zombie movie. The young one is ride or die for anything horror related.

anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Let us know what you think of it. My kid’s into horror as well, and while Hereditary was maybe a bit much I’m liking quite a lot of what we’ve been seeing

Looks like Northland had a bad incident of someone driving through the shopping centre with a car.
I don’t think anyone was seriously hurt thank goodness.

How good is leftover pizza in the air fryer for breakfast?
So good.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Unpopular Opinion: I prefer cold pizza the next day to fresh or reheated pizza. It’s one of my main motivators to only eat half a pizza so the other half goes in the fridge.
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Yeh nah. I used to feel that way but then I realised it was just my lazy self trying to get out of making an effort to warm it up
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Cold pizza is the best munchie food.
Great for hangovers too.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Unpopular opinion indeed 😭 Cold, chewy pizza just makes my stomach turn. It is the food of desperation. I’d rather have a cheese toastie. Even a microwaved slice that’s eaten in 30 seconds before the texture goes all funny
I normally just buy one pizza and eat it that night, or maybe eat 70% and put the rest in the fridge for breakfast or lunch. I can’t really eat pizza too many days in a week. But on Monday there was a great deal - either one large pizza for $15 or two for $25, and I went for two precisely because then a few extra meals would be sorted during the week. I wouldn’t do this regularly though.
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Left over pizza is the bomb
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I do mine in the sandwich press l, but air fryer is a great option.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Doesn’t the cheese stick to the sandwich press? Teach me your ways. I wouldn’t mind having the rest of the pizza for lunch tomorrow and there is a sandwich press available at uni…

I’ve been constantly thinking about those autobiographies by Helen Forrest.
They are so interestingly written. She presents many facts. She presents how she lived and what her mother told her and the family.
What her mother told her and the family does not match the facts.
I have come to believe that control of others and sadism was the point of the mother’s abuse.
Another good thing about reading these books is that they can help put your own feelings and knowledge into plain words.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I’m glad you liked them. They do stir up a lot of emotions. If I can recommend any other books they would be The Nella Last diaries. Nella wrote for Mass Observation and later on someone compiled them into books.
She writes about everything from what they ate, her charity work, her adult children, domestic life during the war. Simply written and detailed. For me they are up there with Helen’s books.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I cried a few times hearing Helen’s story. Those poor children ( and I don’t mean materially ).
Before these authors lived what they lived and the books they went on to write Aldous Huxley observed in the 1930s the personal and social effect that compulsory education was having on the English working class. Not only were they becoming empowered by the ability to understand the economic and legal world , they could read newspapers and contracts and such, but they could self educate on issues that helped their lives, like hygiene and nutrition. But most importantly education gave them the ability to structure and analyse what they observed and learnt about the world and the people around them.
I think these books and books like them are a product of that. ( Tho of course Helen came from a middle class family. )

Forgot my wireless keyboard at home argghh. Have this weird setup now when I’m trying using my laptop keyboard looking at a larger screen. It feels very off.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
In very rare instances I’ve preferred the layout of my laptop keyboard for specific tasks. Otherwise they just feel cramped and have terrible ergonomics
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I’m working with a laptop due to my desktop needing to be fixed at the moment.
I had the option of connecting to the monitor via hdmi but I opted just to work from the laptop screen as I didn’t want to go through typing on the laptop but looking at a monitor as well.
