Too hot to be hungry. For lunch I ate a bowl of diced mango with a scoop of vanilla icecream. but now I’m peckish, maybe shall make myself a Vegemite toast.
I’ve caved and turned on the portable air con. It’s still really inefficient cause I can’t really block the window. But I hung a sheet to try and block extra sunlight and some air getting though. These stupid blinds aren’t helping cause they’re rigid and the entire dimensions of the window

A tip, shading the window from the outside is more effective than from the inside. It’s because as sun passes through the glass, it heats up the inside. But if you prevent the sun from blazing through the window then it really makes a difference. This is why houses with eaves tend to be stay cooler than those without, eaves partially shade the windows and walls from direct sun.
It’s a sucky solution but taping tinfoil over large sun facing windows helps a lot
I can’t remember who suggested it, but I’m considering those emergency warming blanket things since they’re thicker than alfoil and I’m not sure what else to use besides alfoil
The rental laws also stipulate that you’re allowed to put anything removable on the windows for the purposes of privacy or temperature control. So getting some window tint, or even completely blacking out sun facing windows could also be an option in the long run
I took some pics of the mini dishwasher. Sorry there’s no banana for scale. They’re kind of minimal because I didn’t want to post any clutter or my reflection. You will get the rough idea though.

The supplied fill jug has weirdly marked increments so just listen to the machine. Once it receives the 5 litres it makes a series of rapid panicked beeps. If it doesn’t do that and the tap icon is showing just keep pouring in a little more. Image Image

Thanks for the pics! That’s worse energy efficiency than I would’ve guessed. I thought dishwashers were pretty efficient when it comes to both electricity and water usage, so I wonder what it is about putting it on a bench that makes it less efficient. You have to load it with cold water, right? That might be it. I think normal dishwashers generally connect up to the hot water pipe and then heat it as needed
I’m also wondering whether double decker models exist and are worthwhile. That seems like an alright amount of space, although you’d really need to practice loading and work out how much you can fit in it without ruining it’s cleaning capabilities
Is it heavy? Are you able to move it yourself? Any risk of leaving gouge marks on the bench do you reckon?
Yeah I was a bit sad to see such low energy efficiency :( And the water efficiency isn’t amazing either.

The garden has been watered, and I picked my first ripe tomatoes. Apparently I have an unexpected tomato hybrid, with trusses of yellow tomatoes. I was expecting red, so failed to recognise some earlier tomatoes had actually ripened.
Shops done. Missed Kmart though, so an excuse to go window shop tomorrow ig
Fuck shopping centres that half shit down at night time for no good reason. I went in the main entrance, as one does. That was open, but half way down was closed. Had to do a 10 minute detour around to the other side of the building to get to the supermarket entrance
I realise they probably try and justify it by arguing about all the closed shops, but it’s really just ridiculous. It’s such a car centric way of thinking
This happened at highpoint too where they closed the entrance from the bus bays and I had to walk about 20 mins iirc to get to the other side, and part of it didn’t even have a footpath or the footpath just ended. It’s ridiculous.
Had to take the Minipeelers to a birthday party at highpoint and it finished with a movie that finished after the most of the joint closed. It was a weird feeling walking through the place, a real liminal space kind of thing.
I went to see a late night movie with the old LT a few months ago, too, and hard agree. We did a bit of a cheeky and went somewhere it was implied (but in our defense never stated!) we weren’t meant to go. Lights dimmed, escalators off, etc. super odd feeling. Pretty sure I took a video cause it was just so unusual feeling
The supermarket was almost empty today, and they were playing the butter sweet symphony. That’s an interesting feeling listening to in an empty supermarket as well haha. Reminded me of that hey there Delilah in an empty shopping centre video from the states that went viral some time ago. Slightly sad but also somewhat nostalgic song in an empty place that’s usually busy created an interesting atmosphere

On my way home from a pub lunch and watching gladiator 2 at pentridge cinemas. I thought gladiator 2 was really well done. They got through an impressive amount of storyline while managing to keep it fast paced and action packed. 4/5 hobbits, would recommend

Today a lady that I helped months ago recognised me and was so excited to see me. She asked for a photo with me. It was quite strange but I kinda felt like a celebrity for a second.
I forgot to water this morning so popped out with my hat on, sure enough everything was wilting. Quick water then out to check the maggie’s water. They still had some.
But some beefy sunburned dipshit came stomping aggressively through like an elephant while I was talking to them and topping up their water. Not either of the ones that tips the water out but looks like the one that was swearing about ‘some prick feeding them’. Guess the target is on my back now.
But fuck him. Pretty sure this is private property he’s cutting through. I’m getting very sick of random shitty men trying to intimidate me on my own property and if he begins to harass me directly then perhaps the police might like some footage of him.
Bougainvillea or climbing roses to form a barrier? Hard to say without knowing what the space is like. In my area, every time someone builds an extension there are these massive rocks dug up that just get carted away in a tipper. I’d probably ask them to dump a few in the way so people couldn’t pass through easily. If you can afford a motion activated sprinkler that would be funny to watch and has the element of plausible deniability, but I think some of them are actually marketed as bird deterrents. Could work for people though, depending on the range and where you point it🤔

Angelica beside your front door has the power to drive away tax collectors, so should be able to cope with randoms such as you describe. For best effect, companion plant with dill and parsley. These are 3 of the power herbs in the north european tradition. Only problem, angelica is a huuuuge plant - a good metre across and tends to spread its tentacles a long way, so might not be the most space effective solution. Hard to find in Melbourne except from specialty herb suppliers too.
Oh dang, that might be a little big. I found the seeds on the seed collection site and do have that dry sandy patch but it might die and if the plants were in pots they might get stolen. 😢

I really love mine. It has saved my back on numerous occasions. I have one of those metal utensil holders with the holes all over it so anything that doesn’t fit in the utensil holder goes in there. The 3 hour cycle I think dries everything but it isn’t great. I never grew up with a dishwasher so anything would be an improvement for me. I’m really impressed with it.

For some reason my wipes have failed… twice. 100% bytes erased, but blanking failed. Some the errors suggest the disks are on their way out. NBD since they’re going to trash. Yet, while I have a million and one other things to do, I haven’t looked at a Linux distro for aeons… So, of course I’m going to look at Endeavour. This is a rabbit hole I need not be heading down today. LOL.

Damn… yesterday after the dentist I got the local homeless dude the wrong drinks. I usually only give him some change and only briefly saw his sign, so got a bit confused and bought the wrong option.
It’s cool. I’m not down that way too often but now I’ve figured out the right thing.
Now him, he’s fine. The people around here are usually harassing me or doing scary disruptive things at my house, hence my defensive attitude, but he’s chill and doesn’t bother anyone. I’ve always got a coin or two for him when I go past.
