I used to feel proud when having to flush twice until I realized that the toilets at work constantly needed a second flush. Now I realize that they were just gender affirming toilets. 😥

Depends on how formal it needs to be. Dickbutt might be more appropriate. You’ll just have to use your best judgement.

- Comment on "Digital Signatures" just ask you to type your name into a box now. Am I right in thinking this almost-completely defeats the purpose of a signature? 1 week ago:
The actual shape of your signature hasn’t really meant much for some time. As recently as 2005, Visa’s contract had the most bizarre requirements.
You are supposed to sign the back of your card. If you paid with the card, you had to sign the receipt. The cashier was supposed to examine the signature on the card and the signature on the receipt and decide if they matched.
But. If the card was not signed, the cashier was supposed to insist that the person present sign the card, and then the cashier was supposed to compare the signatures right there. We were also forbidden by contract from asking for ID.

I honestly have never noticed an outage of that type, and wasn’t aware. Good to know.
I maintain both Plex and jellyfin on the same servers at the same time because honestly neither is a full solution that I’m happy with. 😥
- Comment on Netflix is garbage 1 week ago:
Not OP, but I don’t expose my jellyfin to the internet because of the rough edges and its age. It hasn’t been around long enough for me to trust it. It’s probably fine. I’m just not ready yet.
I barely expose my Plex server to the internet. Both are pretty seriously firewalled, and my jellyfin is only visible outside via tailscale.

Plex will also auto select subtitles for your language of you set it up, and jellyfin currently can desync subtitles if you skip forward enough.
I don’t really have a preference between the two, but jellyfin still feels rough around the edges in places.

So, working for a power company, I have some insight for you on this. This is still the power companies doing bullshit, but there is some truth to the grid being unable to handle electric vehicles. We are seeing the same issue with electric tankless water heaters.
Most companies, unless you ask and pay for it, will size a transformer for your house as small as they can get away with. 15~25kVA is kinda standard for overhead, while 50~75kVA for padmount is usual (because the same transformer will serve two to four houses).
If you install a fast charger on your house, and run the dryer, and the water heater turns on, the fuse will blow on the transformer. Then you call in an outage, they have to put a new fuse on, and usually don’t tell you what was wrong. Then once you figure it out, they have to tell you that you can’t do all that (and lose revenue from all the downtime and sending a technican) or they have to put up a bigger transformer.
It’s far easier to say “lol our grid is old and bad” than “we don’t want to spend out profits on needed upgrades and maintenance”. Meanwhile, data centers are exclusively connected directly to a substation that can handle their needs or to their own dedicated transformer banks directly off of transmission lines. Never are they on some back woods tap fifteen miles from their substation.
