I am the donor for a lesbian couple. I’m pretty involved in my son’s life. I took him for his third haircut. Midway through, he was bored, and shooting me one of the angriest looks I’ve ever gotten from him. I took a pic and sent it to his mom.
“Oh god look how mad he is, give him your phone!”
What? He’s being quiet and learning how to be patient while a haircut happens. Some parents think reality is a BAD substitute for devices, it seems.
At least one night a week, he comes to my house and plays without any screens. We talk and explore the world.

You don’t act like they do - just the money hoarding beyond belief, not to mention releasing products they know cause mental harm - if you want everyone to be OK.
- Comment on what are the grievances with the "male loneliness epidemic"? 6 days ago:
Gay dude here, it seems to be. We have the loneliness epidemic here too, but we’re actually organizing and fighting it, because we’re used to do that. Our cishet counterparts are definitely not equipped to do that. Women are socalized much earlier than boys, and they’re taught that the social order is theirs for keeping. Girls are simply raised to be better at this. By the time men realize what’s happened with the natural funneling of friends through the parenting years - usually those late 20s and early 30s where it suddenly starts to become really difficult to overcome the friendship hump.
I can’t comment on the whole incels taking hold of this concept, because it’s something I’ve just had explained to me in the past week. I can definitely see the gender/sexuality lines on this in real life tho (I started and run a nonprofit to create community for GBT+ men in my state).

B/W film was still cheaper through the 80s and so color photography was very much optional.

Oh I’ve heard the “bisexual men don’t exist” thing a million times, often from gay men.
I like to shut the conversation down by waving around the statistic that for every gay man, there are 3 bisexual men.

Yeah I loved on capitol hill a dozen years ago and even then, all the hardcore hippies and weirdos were being wrung out of the neighborhood by developers and the bubble they bring. All of Seattle is totally different from 10, 20 years ago, which is totally different from 30, 40 years ago. None of it is for the better.

Hell - here’s how fucked up it is - my SO worked in clinic that wasn’t open on holidays, but offered no holiday pay, so employees had to use the 10 or 14 vaca days they got to cover their 7 holidays, which they couldn’t have worked if they wanted to. ‘Ready, able, and willing’ is how the law is worded, for salaried employees. But these things are meaningless relics of old times when labor had some power and wasn’t just the fleshlight of the rich.

If you’re going to get nitpicky we could focus on how much heat the concrete retains vs plant life which can absorb and use the energy. All the people with concrete or rock yards around here are super hot, my dog and I have to run by in the summer. Paving vast surfaces is a poor alternative to landscaping. The soil underneath will dry and the animals, insects, microflora, etc will all be forced out and that part of the earth will just be dead.
But really it just looks dumb and Jackie planted some of those trees.

I remember being in a small casino watching Steve-o perform on a tiny stage, like 5 feet away from me. He wound up staple-gunning his scrotum to his thigh. I blew chunks all over a police officer, and had to be rushed out because I was drinking, in a casino, on a fake ID. Steve-o thought it was hilarious. Good times.

Good news readers can help you get lots of the content you want with only a quick passing glance at the headlines so you can still carry a conversation/contemplate the inescapability of this planet

This is mostly a myth propagated by the idea of “posing stands” which were actually meant to keep living people still for portraits that took a long exposure time. Victorians loved some goth shit like hair jewelry tho.

“My momma cleaned hunter’s cabins and those hunters were real nice men if you know what I mean.”
He was talking about a time when he was early teens.
So it’s not just girls who get this treatment! If that makes you feel any more egalitarian.

That’s exactly it, they’re making themselves “indispensable” at the consumer level to hold on for dear life.
But, on the other hand, you have companies like Klarna that are successfully using AI to replace, in one case, 700 humans or 3/4 of their tier 1 support staff. And every other company perks up at that. There is definitely a use case for AI, it’s still improving, and business will keep it going in some form (which will be great for the poor neighborhoods they put the data centers in).

America doesn’t do free market capitalism it does late stage capitalism, where profits do in fact need to be record high every quarter, even if that means people are gonna die (like 10m people becoming uninsured, plus us borrowing a bunch of money from China, so we can give more to the billionaires that own us and don’t need it).

Last year on the 4th, I was walking home from the big fireworks show, and I saw a teenager on a scooter, who was briefly crouching down and not being safe. But he came up beside a lady and surprised her, and she swatted at him and tried to push him over, which would have crashed him into several people walking. More than just a startle response, and the kid stopped, looked back, angry - but he was a black teenager and there’s this white lady and her beefy white boyfriend/husband staring him back, so he turns and disappears back into the crowd.
And I’m instantly furious.
“That’s assault,” I told her.
“Mind your own fucking business” she says. Several other people are watching.
Thankfully my husband and her husband pulled us in different directions and the crowd separated us.
But I was so fucking angry, and that lady looked like she had started a fight or three in her life. Her boyfriend looked like he wasn’t happy to be there in that moment.
So yes, but it has to be something serious.

Claude can spit out powershell scripts up to like, 400 or 500 lines without errors or with minimal, easily debugged errors. Adds things like error correction, colored text, user interaction, comments the code pretty well. Saves me hours every time I fire it up, so that I can in turn save myself dozens of hours with the scripts themselves.
But as far as I tell my boss, there is no AI use, and that’s how we’re keeping that for now/indefinitely
