I’m not sure if it was touched on in this article, but the scammers convinced the guy (over a few hours on the phone) the driver was there to hurt him if he didn’t hand over the money.
I certainly don’t agree with his actions, but reducing the entire thing to racist violence is misguided and ignores everything that happened leading up to her death.

You’re absolutely correct. What struck me was the juxtaposition of a line of parents picking up their kids and a truck that’s been modified to say “war” (or “raw” if you read it in a mirror)
