Sorry, but it’s too fucking hot most places to even think about spooky season right now.

Costco put out Christmas stuff near us. These companies are literally completely destroying the meaning of the holidays.

      • protist@retrofed.com ⁨1⁩ ⁨week⁩ ago

Costco is particularly infamous for this. They start putting out Halloween in July and Christmas in August. By September, Halloween is over and it’s all Christmas

I feel like the only companies who should have stuff out early like that are craft stores because people need time to craft things.

You have to go back pretty far to have the meaning of holidays not be about rampant consumerism.

      • FishFace@piefed.social ⁨1⁩ ⁨week⁩ ago

Like, to still it, or to decorate the store?

As long as the Claus regime and its fundamentalist base remains steadfast in its mission of Christmas creep expansionism, Halloween is all that’s left between us and Christmas lights going up in July.

For generations, Halloween has held the borders of Autumn established long ago in the Skellington Accords. Resolutely. Without complaint. It naturally can’t even creep father forward than Lughnasadh on August 6 due to the wobble of the Earth herself, and makes no designs to even take more than a week of August. IF you feel like it.

Meanwhile, the lands of Thanksgiving are bare, stripped to the roots to feed Claus and his elves. Christmas holds nearly every inch of Thanksgiving territory, save only a small administrative territory near the capital. They laughably claim autonomy still. Thanksgiving is little more than a province of Christmas now. A weak and middling fiefdom that serves no master other than Claus.

Fight the Claus. Fight Christmas. Saturnalia io!

Happy Halloween! Happy Samhain! Spooky season arise!

I think I’m invited so someone’s Christmas in July party every year at this point. I had a Christmas in July party in ’22. The Claus regime got me with their propaganda 😭

I extend my decorations til the week after thanksgiving. Gonna keep christmas lights into january, I’m gonna keep cadavers in my courtyard til turkeytime.

Halloween is one day, not a season, and I will die on this hill, and then I’ll be a spooky skeleton but I won’t come out except on Halloween

We visit Spirit Halloween at least once a week starting in August each year. My kids are obsessed.

    • Dozzi92@lemmy.world ⁨1⁩ ⁨week⁩ ago

My wife takes our kids frequently as well. I’m good for one trip a year, but in much more focused in my shopping than they are.

Oh, we don’t buy anything most of the time. Just window shopping.😃

I just put in PTO for a bunch of long weekends so I can desperately cling to summer for as long as possible.

September only has one holiday and it sucks.

    source
    • captainlezbian@lemmy.world ⁨1⁩ ⁨week⁩ ago

It has the equinox and oktoberfests though. But yeah fake labor day is really mid. Glad to have the day off for sure, but yeah

I’ll keep enjoying the bread themed half season. Then at Mabon I’ll switch to beer and pumpkin spice.

Like, I’m edgy and witchy enough all year that I guess I don’t really feel the need to let Halloween creep into summer. Also living somewhere where the trees are mostly coniferous does weaken the feeling of autumn a bit when I’m used to leaves changing.

    • captainlezbian@lemmy.world ⁨6⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

Update: I am apparently not immune to holiday creep and now have a bunch of pumpkin beer and oktoberfest style beer

  • Echolynx@lemmy.zip ⁨1⁩ ⁨week⁩ ago

I’m not ready for this. We can’t put out Halloween decorations when it’s still summer weather.
