Treasure Planet and Atlantis are two of the best. They go well together too.

Didn’t Ramanujan write to a Cambridge professor? His English would be great. Colonial India—a lot of elites would’ve had knowledge of English.

Literally a Renaissance man.

Interesting that he said that, given how much he dunks on philosophers.

Agreed, Leonardo had that natural sense of curiosity and wonder that I can imagine being completely infectious.

Bertrand Russell has an intro to philosophy book that is quite accessible.

Well said! I like the acknowledgment that men being at the table can help and may be better to address patriarchy and other problems that face everyone. We all move forward together or no one does.

The Will to Change by bell hooks is the book you want! Short read too, but very meaningful. I’ve been making my way through it extremely slowly for several months, trying to digest everything. It’s interesting to see how she often conflicts with a lot of contemporary feminists as well.
- Comment on Anon thinks there is a bicurious double standard 2 weeks ago:
I really liked bell hooks’s approach to this. She focuses on incorporating male problems into feminism as a focal point, not excluding them.

Fair point. Probably not very separate to begin with, but definitely so now.

Seconding the bread for sure. German bread (especially rye) is a real treat, and most larger supermarkets have bakeries in them.

I’m also from the Midwest and I lived in Munich for a year. It’s a lovely place. The groceries were cheaper and fresher/better quality, the food was great, public transit was incredibly useful (I’m not sure how it fares in/to Grunwald, but the transit in Munich is quite extensive). At least near the city, most neighborhoods are fairly walkable and have nice neighborhood shops, cafes, etc.
If you’ve been to Aldi in the US at all, definitely check out a German Aldi. It’s next level and amazing. Fresh sliced bread, falafel, mango lassi… I miss it.

Truth to the legends… there’s a reason two separate religious codes banned consumption of pork.

I just saw this at work today for the first time from a younger person. No one I’ve ever emailed with has done summaries before. It took me by surprise. Especially because this is an organization that is built on reading things.

This is why I love ones like Kurzgesagt that publish sources and ‘read more’ pages for their videos.

Interesting, never though about the cadence thing. I usually try to speed up videos. It works fine for casual YouTube videos but never for podcasts or anything where I need to retain the information.

A decent Brother toner printer isn’t more than $100-150 though… assuming USD.

I will share and highly recommend this resource: CCI’s Self Help Resources. There are various pages for different types of dilemmas, and most of them take you to self-directed workbooks you can fill out yourself. They’re not only informative, but they also guide you through your thinking about these issues and how to deal with them and grow from them.
