oh my god. LETS EFFING GOOOOO!
Look forward to this one even if I miss the turn based system of the original.
It’s not quite what you wanted, but as someone with a lot of FF7 nostalgia, I ended up playing Trails in the Sky, another JRPG from that era, much later in life, and felt a lot of that nostalgia sense; badass characters with sensitive moments and big sinister twists. They remade that game very well, and the sequel (a bit of a necessary follow-on/conclusion) is out later this year. While it does add some brief action-combat, it’s only meant to give you an edge going into the traditional turn-based system (and bosses give you no action-combat).
I’m really hoping for some fan mod of something down the line that converts all of these assets to a near perfect replica of the OG game just turn based.
All I ever wanted from a remake was the old system with shiny graphics and the fixed mag def bug.
But noooo they had to go and fuck with it.
I’m guessing that it will sell even less than the second one. By far the worst and most disrespectful remake this generation.
I don’t care to speculate on their sales numbers, but I know I didn’t bother with Rebirth after what Remake did to the story. I’ll wait for an overhaul mod that cuts the time ghost nonsense out of the whole trilogy.
I am rooting for its failure after seeing the level of quality in their final product. It is overly ambitious but they didn’t have the talent to actually write well or make any of the new content an improvement over the original.
SquareEnix is just existing because an MMO is keeping them afloat.
Their sales recovered once they left PlayStation, so now that there’s a simultaneous launch, the smart money is on it doing phenomenally well.
3-4 million less sales according to resetera. Losing 30% of your customers in the mid-point of the story is rough.
Final Fantasy VII Remake and Intergrade have sold 8.7 million units as of March 2025, according to Eurogamer. With the Switch 2 and Xbox ports, I won’t be surprised if it is between 9 to 9.5 million units at the moment.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has sold 4 million units on the PS5, based on what we heard from Alex Donaldson back in August 2024, and anywhere from 700k- 1 million units on Steam, according to Steamdb, but take these numbers with a grain of salt. It could be anywhere from 5-6 million units, but we can’t know for sure until we get numbers from Square Enix.
I’m sure the third one will also have ridiculously inflated review scores.
Man, I was sure they were going to call this one reunion. So stoked for this though.
They expected to use Reunion for part 2, I think, but then the Crisis Core remake team stole that from under them without asking.
I was kind of hoping they’d continue the other theme naming for the FF7 series and call it Final Crisis.
Did they mention a release date?
Spring 2027, so less than a year away (assuming no delays). Also will be a simultaneous launch on all systems, no exclusivity window this time.
I’ve been long frustrated about the time ghost branching story effort stuff, but I’m still happy they’ve managed to put finishing touches on this trilogy. Maybe I’ll play it now.
I’ll always advocate for patient gaming, but in case you were looking to catch up on the first two before this one comes out, I would start sooner than later for a couple reasons. First is just because they are absolutely massive games that may take longer than expected to complete, but second because I think they benefit from taking a break in between. I wouldn’t do one right after the other.
Other guy is right, they both have a lot of content with the 2nd being even longer. Idk how much you play but each game was about a solid month if not a little longer to beat with an average of about 2 hours a day. My save for the 2nd game is like 160 hours.
Glorious.
Cant fucking wait! I am kind of shocked it’s so soon and very happy they are finishing it. I wonder if another game will get a similar upgrade next.
Fuck yes! This was an unexpected surprise!
Hamaguchi confirmed that each character will have 4 fits, which are apparently used as both costume and job. FF7 allowed anyone to be any job with the materia set you give them, and the fits will apparently give them unique abilities to focus on a job. Time to list all the jobs that exist and spread them across the 8 characters? Mystic Knight / Dark Knight for Cloud, Time Mage for Red XIII, Monk and apparently Black Mage for Tifa, Berserker and Blue Gunner for Vincent… Cait Sith can have the White Mage and be actually relevant now.
AaaaaAaAaaaAaaaAaahhhH…!

Took ‘em long enough to figure this out. I’m happy.
