We’re saying the same thing. The productivity surplus is getting stolen by the Epstein class. I’m not trying to sugarcoat anything.

Yeah but Milky Ways are sold under the name Mars in other countries. Whereas Milky Way doesn’t have any of the caramel in other countries.

Global warming is by far the worst thing but it leads to the same evil root of corporate greed.
- Comment on Mars Bar from the 1990s found during house clearance - shrinkflation in action 1 week ago:
Oh absolutely. Productivity has tripled in many western countries during that time. Wages never kept up with that but prices sure did…

What else should he have done? People of course isolate during a pandemic and this isolation made some people very productive. We’ve seen it during the covid pandemic as well.
- Comment on "My 'Microsoft will probably be a good steward of the brand' statement isn't aging well" - id Software co-founder John Carmack speaks out after devastating Xbox layoffs 5 weeks ago:
Microsoft was always buying companies to drive them off the cliff. Or rather to lead them behind the barn. There’s even an older Simpsons bit about Microsoft’s cut throat methods. Nothing about this is new or surprising.

Don’t read too much into it. I was merely criticizing the whole ecosystem around it.
- Comment on Neverness to Everness has patched out a character’s shorts in favor of panties following complaints 1 month ago:
Perhaps you should read the article.
- Comment on Neverness to Everness has patched out a character’s shorts in favor of panties following complaints 1 month ago:
Genuinely surprised they even dared to release a female character in shorts to a Chinese audience. You would think they know how much they indoctrinated their audience with trashy fan service by now. The stories about enraged lonely guys almost ending an entire franchise over not pandering enough to their fantasies are crazy. You don’t want to mess with those guys. It could put your employees in actual danger.

I think the friendslop trend is great. It brings the couch gaming experience into the modern era after a long time in coma.
- Comment on Steam Machine pricing announced (from $1049-$1428 USD), reservation lists open 1 month ago:
This is the only plausible prediction for AAA gaming. They’ll go full cloud gaming. None of the computing will be done in your living room or even your phone anymore because the little hardware that consumers will be allowed to own is going to be too shitty to do anything meaningful. Inputs will be send to the server and the server streams frames back. That’s it. No ownership. No control. But full surveillance.

EA is toast. They got bought out and loaded with debt they could never pay by operating normally. Stake holders got a nice golden parachute before the company is being sold for parts.
- Comment on Xbox is closing Ninja Theory, and Double Fine and Compulsion may not be far behind 2 months ago:
Maybe you can’t see it, but buying more nonexistent RAM for nonexistent data centers to satisfy nonexistent customers by solving nonexistent problems with nonexistent LLMs is a much better way to spend your money. It’s what everyone does so it must be smart! /s
- Comment on Electronic Arts has launched EA Advertising, a way for brands to integrate ads in games 2 months ago:
That’s true, although very oversimplified. The slightly less simplified version is that the Jared Kushner’s private equidy firm and the Saudis took a huge loan to buy EA then loaded the company with that debt. EA will be forced to sell a huge chunk of their portfolio and layoff thousands of people. If they survive this somehow they will be a shadow of what once was but more likely they’ll simply vanish soon. This shit should be completely illegal but I would lie if I said I’ll miss EA. A few people at the top getting filthy rich by destroying the company seems like a very fitting end for them.

Kojima or whoever did it before him should’ve patented it so the disease doesn’t spread.

Just play TP decompiled. It probably beats the HD remaster and is the closest thing to a remake we will get.

- Comment on Why Video Games Cost So Much To Make - Jason Schreier 2 months ago:
It pays extraordinary well if you own shares and are a board member and want a CEO that maximizes your profits. As a shareholder you also have no idea about the medium but you know there is a lot of money in it so you throw money at it. Most of the biggest game companies are run by c-suites who couldn’t care less about games.

- Comment on Why Video Games Cost So Much To Make - Jason Schreier 2 months ago:
There’s also a lot of people in game development that have no idea what they’re doing. They’re in it for the money and because gaming is bigger than cinema, TV (streaming) and music combined they’re willing to throw a lot of cash at it.
- Comment on Why Video Games Cost So Much To Make - Jason Schreier 2 months ago:
Hey, at least he didn’t read the entire plot summary of a game from Wikipedia for no good reason. I can tell because the video isn’t 30 minutes long.
Jokes aside, I get the feeling video essays are in kind of a crisis. There’s too much bloat out there. Even among very popular uploads with tons of views. Of course there are fantastic documentaries too but it gets harder to find good new stuff with all this meaningless slop clogging the front page and search results. (As if search wasn’t terrible enough already.)
But hey, maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’ve become too picky. But as soon as I notice there’s more plot summary than insight in a video essay, I leave midway through. And I swear it’s getting more by the month.
- Comment on A Baldur's Gate 2 remake is apparently in development, with the original co-lead designer returning 2 months ago:
I find this trend of remaking a popular game in the middle of the franchise, then expanding from there in both directions to be a little annoying. Baldur’s Gate and BG2 make a lot more sense when played in chronological order.

Huh. They unionized before GTA 6 came out. Hope this can extend to the people that got fired over this.
- Comment on Valve raises Steam Deck prices by more than $200 2 months ago:
It has been out of stock since Christmas or something. At least here. I guess they just can’t produce any for a decent price anymore. Pretty sure that goes for most manufacturers. It’s the reality we live in now. Still a bonkers price for hardware that was considered somewhat outdated 5 years ago. The Steam Machine for under $1k feels like a pipe dream at this point.
- Comment on Xbox Player Voice Quickly Reveals What Players Want Most 2 months ago:
So in other news Xbox players want the console wars back? Guess their console still sucks if they rather waste hours a day screaming into the void of comment sections than playing a game. They have a certain reputation for a reason.
