Okay thanks for the detailed answer.
I’ll have to investigate further.

Last Of Us 3 would be the only digital game I’d still buy for my PS5.
For the rest, no disc, no buy as I’m moving to Steam/Gog anyway.

Oh that’s not great as it would mean that I have to download the normal game through Heroic and download it a second time to get the offline installer.
For a 50gb game, it means allocating around 100gb for it.
Gog should clarify that situation a bit better.

I guess it’s the right place to ask even if it’s not really related to Sony and my move away from them.
I download and install my GOG games through Heroic and then move them to a hard drive after I’m finished enjoying them.
If GOG one day disappears, will I still be able to play the games that way or do I really have to separately download the offline installers which are separated in many files?

Yeah but at around 1 fps per second.
Ps5 emulation will happen, but not before a few years.
Still, it’s good as it means I’ll be able to fully leave that ecosystem that I used to love.
I guess Sony might lose a lot of money at one point if they don’t release their games on PC since a few former Playstation players are in the process of moving to PC and not coming back.

What do you think about the story?
I really enjoyed the Mass Effect trilogy and would be interested if the game is cheap and runs well on a Steam Deck

Well that’s why I’m trying to share my gaming between GOG for the DRM free safety they provide and Steam for all the good they’ve done for Linux gaming.
They all have their downsides and with Steam you don’t own your games.
- Comment on GOG seemingly shares that they are considering physical PC 'big box' games. Maybe? 1 month ago:
I’m a vegetarian, using my muscular bike a lot and trying to buy as much local food as possible, so I’m trying to do what I can.
I’m sorry if I offended people, by saying these physical dics would be an ecological problem for me. I agree that just a few people would probably buy them and it wouldn’t be a big deal.
It’s just that, as long as we have a DRM free digital games, I don’t really see what physical games would bring except easier resale (and collection/decoration).
If it helps GOG bring better features and games, I’m not really against it then, even if I wouldn’t buy their physical games.

I understand this.
Still plastic waste is a huge problem.
Dependeing on the price, anyone could be tempted by collecting these, where collecting psintings would be too prohibitive.

I don’t think we should create more waste in our world, so I’m voting against it.
I’d want GOG to focus more on Linux and on getting more games on their store.
- Comment on PlayStation’s Physical Media-Free Future Isn’t Just Concerning, It’s Offensive 1 month ago:
- I was a happy Playstation user through every generation, starting with the first one
- I got a Playstation 5 1-2 years after its launch
- After being a Linux user for years, I decided I could also try Linux gaming so I bought a Steam Deck early 2025
- My Playstation 5 started gathering dust and was only used for demanding racing games like Gran Turismo 7
- Saw the Steam Machine announcement and started having a dilemna. Decided I’d look at its price before making a decision to fully switch to Linux gaming
- Saw the Steam Machine US price and decided I’d get it only if it’s less than CHF 1000.- in my country
- Saw the Playstation disc removal and decided that no matter what, I ain’t getting another Playstation.
Thank you Sony for making my decision easier! I love your games and would probably buy some on PC if I could know for sure that they wouldn’t be taken away.
I ain’t selling the Playstation 5 as I’ll probably buy a few more exclusives (on disc) for it, but it’ll probably keep gathering dust and being mostly used as an Nba league pass streaming machine.
Now the removal of physical discs ain’t really the problem, but if you combine this with shady practices from Sony, it’ll be GOG (and Steam when not available) all the way for me.
- Comment on GOG when available, but what should I choose between PS5 physical and Steam when not? 1 month ago:
Then they are just making my future choices easier because I for sure ain’t buying a discless Playstation 6.

A Steam Deck is made for you with such behavior.
It guves me the occasion to play all the titles I ignored over the years.
Still I need something powerful to play sim racing titles as it’s the only category where I can’t just play old games.
- Comment on Single player games 1 month ago:
Sometimes I force myself to try multiplayer, but other than Gran Turismo, Last Of Us factions and Gears of War, I never found how it could be considered as enjoyable.
And even these games are way better as single player games.

That’s why I’ll mostly buy games on GOG from now on, but I still have to get some games from Steam so I hope they don’t do that too.
For movies, MakeMKV and LibreELEC all the way!

To be honest, I haven’t read the article, but games have never been so cheap for me.
When I was a kid, NES games were around CHF 120.-.
Then as teenager they were around CHF 89.- on Playstation 2 or 3.
Nowadays, my most expensive game on Playstation 5 was probably CHF 79.-.
And on my Steam Deck, I don’t think I’ve paid more than CHF 20.- for a game.
Related to inflation, my Playstation 3 was probably my most expensive console.
Now it’s true that the hardware prices are increasing (bought my Playstation 5 at around CHF 500.- and I guess it’d be at least CHF 150.- more expensive now), but games have become cheaper over time in my country (Switzerland).
I don’t know how much the Steam Machine is gonna be in Switzerland, but it’ll probably still be cheaper than a medium gaming PC was 10 years ago.
- Comment on GOG when available, but what should I choose between PS5 physical and Steam when not? 1 month ago:
Well if GOG becomes evil, I’ll have all my games stored locally and I can do what I want with them.
While it’s true there is no GOG Galaxy for Linux, I think they sponsor Heroic and it works quite well on Steam Deck to be honest.
I might get pirated games if my Steam Library gets taken away since, contrary to PS5 or GOG, I wouldn’t be able to do anything with my games.
In the end, if I get a Steam Machine, it’ll probably be:
- GOG when available
- Steam
- Playstation for their exclusives
Without the Steam Machine, it’ll be the same but I’ll have to take into account that some games are too demanding for the Deck, so it’ll be PS5 physical.
- Comment on GOG when available, but what should I choose between PS5 physical and Steam when not? 1 month ago:
Yeah but buying on GOG also means not being tied to them if they turn evil since you can just copy the game and use whatever launcher.
- Comment on GOG when available, but what should I choose between PS5 physical and Steam when not? 1 month ago:
Yeah PS5 physical discs, even if only holding data to download the game, have the advantage of giving you the ability to resell a game if you don’t enjoy it.
- Comment on GOG when available, but what should I choose between PS5 physical and Steam when not? 1 month ago:
Well no one really knows the price of the Steam Machine, maybe not even Valve😅
What I know is that I’m not willing to put more than 1000$ to buy it.
Even if Valve said they won’t bleed to make it cheap, I don’t think they can afford to make it so expensive.
We’ll see because everyone is just guessing for now😇

What you’re saying is probably true, but I don’t think he deserved to die burned in a crash for such things.

I’m not saying he was a good guy, but he ain’t a war criminal and was maybe really nice for all we know so I don’t really understand how you can be happy about such news.

I don’t really mind if it doesn’t break the immersion or lower the quality of a game.
If it’s some unskipable add or some big billboards for Pepsi in a medieval game, I do mind.

Yeah I don’t like this too, but it’s already more acceptable for me than buying games owned by Microsoft, which I’m trying to avoid with some failures…

I know people have some reasons to dislike EA, but they’ve created some really great games and some of my favorites:
Mass Effect trilogy Titanfall 2 Dead Space trilogy Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor Battlefield 1
As much as I wouldn’t want them becoming worse, they can still get some of my money from time to time
