Wondering if the placename is a typo. It should probably be “Notodden”, a place in Telemark.

Which one? And why only one magazine and not several?

Thank you.

If you have to ask… you don’t know
daggermoon@piefed.world 5 days ago
Yeah, that’s why I asked the question. I wanted more information.

I thought people asked questions when they didn’t know something…
So, yeah?

Can we do a worldwide search for Mr D? He might still be alive. I wanna know if it all worked out for him. Is he still very blond?
JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 5 days ago
“Mr. D”, in a gay personal ad… Definitely a pseudonym.
tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 5 days ago
I’m sure in daily life he goes by his professional name Mr. Richard.

TIL that Notodden had gay clubs in the 50’s
bstix@feddit.dk 4 days ago
Probably in Oslo. They formed an association for gay people in 1948 and arranged parties at sports clubs using a fake name.
In Norwegian:

Prepositions still causing havok 70ish years later (and I’m struggling in the opposite direction learning Norwegian now)

“A little English”? His ad is like college level, at least!
Dojan@pawb.social 5 days ago
There are some spots where he’s using Norwegian grammar and verbiage and just translated it word for word into English.
You can do this with the Nordic languages and get decent results, but sometimes the grammar doesn’t quite align.

As a French who learnt English and then tried to learn Norwegian, I can say that the syntaxes are incredibly close. I can’t do that with German. To learn English when your mother tongue is Norwegian should mostly be a question of vocabulary.

Don’t get me wrong… but I hope college level is better than that.

If your Magazine can help me with this should I be very grateful.
Capitilized noun and conditional style syntax with subject-verb inversion after the main clause

You’re probably right. But that’s a bad thing.

Looking for Mr D indeed
