Took the girlfriend to a burlesque show last night and I swear the women in the crowd screamed louder than anyone at any of the metal shows I’ve been to recently

Ventured to the Pride Street Party wish sunscreen and an umbrella. Still got burnt. The sun was vicious today! Need to invest in a UV specific umbrella I think.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 16 hours ago
There’s light weight uv hoodies that I’ve been considering. I didn’t make it to pride, I wanted to. I’m struggling with insomnia. I just didn’t have it in me.
_miss_cellophane_@aussie.zone 2 hours ago
Yeah, I’ve seen UV rated clothing at Uniqlo which is cool! It was a very warm day. In retrospect skipping it in lieu of rest probably should have been my choice too. Hope you manage some restful sleep soon!

So I accidentally double booked Friday.
One of my clients IT dudes band is playing at stay gold at 8:30pm and so I bought a ticket.
Then this dude I want to make industrial with is going to a gig at the workers club at 10pm for which I also have a ticket.
Big night coming up lol

Oh fuck yeah. But worth it lol

Had to nick out again because I forgot a couple of critical things on the first shopping run. It is inappropriately humid out there folks. 1/10 do not recommend

I had some of my frozen fish curry for dinner tonight and it was pretty darn good. The two pack approach of freeIng the raw marinaded fish seperately from the curry sauce so that I could cook it rather than freezing it cooked and reheating worked really well. It’s definitely on my list to repeat.

I got asked in my elevator the other day “how long have you been here?” I replied “I moved to the building almost 6 years ago”.
They said: “no I mean in Australia”.
“…I was born here.”
I’m the whitest femme, so, so very white, almost entirely German, French, and English. I thought I sounded Australian. Now I’m questioning my accent.
Taleya@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I have been asked this question so many times it’s become a meme amongst my friends. I was born in friggin burwood.
It’s a combination of preciser than aussie normal diction and a broader vocabulary.
Catfish@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I put my preciser diction down to a vast amount of BBC comedy as a kid. Goodies, Ronnies, Good Life, Are you being served Etc etc Gets stronger with a couple of drinks, don’t always realise I’m doing it
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 23 hours ago
Same question, similar deal. Not sure what it is
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 1 day ago
When I worked in bars I got asked where I was from all the time. Melbourne. I was born in Melbourne. I’ve lived ~three months in NZ, India, Amsterdam and Thailand.

Welcome to my world lol

I kinda had this when Sydney had the Olympics. I was expected to be and speak Russian, Spanish, German and a bunch of other things. Nope! I can mangle a bit of some of the languages but really don’t think I especially look any of those things 🤷🏻♀️

I watered all the orchids on the balcony, much heavy carrying of watering can was done

We finally got some rain! Hopefully there was enough at home to get a decent amount into the water tank.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 18 hours ago
Urgh. I woke up from napping and the heat inside was unreasonable. The doors are cracked with fans going.
Melbcat also tried to door dash without her collar on. Thankfully it was more an amble than a sprint so I was able to catch her on the threshold. Note to self to watch that

LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 20 hours ago
No rain, lightning or thunder yet. It was a bit too humid outside for my liking though, glad I didn’t do the walk.
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 20 hours ago
Just had a big crack of thunder!
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 16 hours ago
Melbcat cried at the door for ages and I thought it was for her lost freedom. Then she moved away from the door and continued to sing. Cuddles helped but what finally soothed her was being lifted up on the chair.
I considered a cheap recliner because the leg part might allow her to get up and down by herself. But from this picture I’m not sure. If I could angle it forward to reduce that gap/make the ramp lower maybe… but a cheap one probably wouldn’t have that function. She wouldn’t use a ramp or a box to step up from.
Thoughts on if you think she could get up?
spoiler
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 16 hours ago
Does she want to be up high with you?
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 16 hours ago
I’m on the bed (mattress on floor for both of us)
She wants to get up high and survey her queendom

Nothing in my suburb either. It’s my fault, it’s because I didn’t put washing out.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 22 hours ago
No one happens to hava a lathe I could access by any chance? I want to turn to tanq10 bottles into cups and lathe would be great to get them spinning true while I apply the glass cutter.

I’ll check the workshop tomorrow!

That’d be rad my “always have a headache” buddy.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Alright. All the house cleaning was done yesterday. Just have some washing to do and that’s it.
Music time!!!
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Well done. It has taken me many years (ok, decades) to fully appreciate the benefits of doing chores first thing instead of putting them off to the last possible minute.
Enjoy your music.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 1 day ago
This was my first time, and honestly, I was having guests so I didn’t want them to see the reality lol

Threatening looking clouds approaching, pleeeeaase let it be rain. My grass is crunchy yellow and the plants are very thirsty.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I really hope so too. I have lots of new plants that I’ve needed to keep watering and my water tank ran dry weeks ago.
SituationCake@aussie.zone 1 day ago
Where is the rain the BOM promised. Not a single cloud in the radar. My garden is thirsty!
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 day ago
I’m glad I didn’t trust them and gave the garden a good water yesterday.

Mansfield Park. BBC 1983
it is a story where not much seems to happen
it is full of strange contrasts, one example is that life at Mansfield Park, the large estate where Fanny goes to live with her rich cousins, is quiet and peaceful and orderly
her home in Portsmouth is chaotic and there are constant small disagreements and dramas
But Mansfield Park is cruel and mean, peace is only maintained when no one defies cruelty and thoughtlessness
and Portsmouth is a normal household where there is no ill will, just ordinary people living together and sorting things out in a respectful way
the main character, Fanny doesn’t seem to do anything other than grow as a person and develop strength of character to resist peer group pressure and see manipulation.
The other aspect, all the references to slavery and abolition and people living lives knowing they profit from exploitation still rings true today.
I know there is terrible exploitation in China and yet I buy. And there is exploitation here too. I always have feelings of guilt deep down.
I’m going to give 3 out of 4 hobbits because the series didn’t show all of the issues written by Austen. It seems to drag too.

Anyone know a friendly glazier? Finding it hard to locate somebody willing to touch 3rd party glass. Which this has to be since it’s a 1970s pattern match
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 1 day ago
friendly glazier
All the ones I’ve used haven’t shattered my expectations.
One in particular did an awful job and had a bit of a glass jaw.
Another was a pane to deal with.
Anddd…
I’m done.

I am rewatching BBC Mansfield Park, it’s on in the background while I do some beading
the rich family are utterly awful , judgemental snobs who have little in the way of morality and they own slave plantations
I’m cringing the whole way through
this is Austen’s big political novel
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 20 hours ago
I haven’t had any pain killers since 8:30am 🥳 headache is just now creeping back in.
Drove down to Queenscliffe to visit the dog beach and then go get the best chips and gravy at St Leonards. An excellent day!
