  My research into getting a home battery:

  • The inverter size is how much you can feed back into your house/the grid, eg, 5/8/10kw. The rest you’ll draw from the grid. Eg running AC and the induction cooktop at the same time will be a large load, 10kw can come from the battery, the rest comes from the grid.
  • Battery backup (power outage) works for three circuits limited to 10amp each. Eg, fridge, lights, tv/modem. Running the cooktop or high power AC doesn’t seem feasible for battery backup.
  • The rest of your electrical system needs to be up to scratch to handle it. My old house needs a mains upgrade.
  • Michael from Victorian Power Savers was super helpful. Got a quote for ~42kw of battery and a 10kw inverter for ~$6,800 but I’d need to spend a bit sorting out things on my end first.
  • Feeding/Selling power back to the grid you need an 8+kw inverter.
  • The battery needs to be 600mm from a window or other appliance (eg AC).
  • If mounted next to a living area a concrete fireproof sheet needs to be installed. If near car parking bollards are required.

  My main reason for it was to keep the AC and cook top running in power outages. That doesn’t seem possible so I think I’m putting it on the back burner for now.

  I managed to find $8.95 knee braces on ebay and am getting them sent to a shop for safe collection. Had some but decluttered them… the ankle braces don’t have my size.

  Melbcat has been refusing wet food and nibbling at dry food so I’ve given her some nausea meds and will see if those get her back on track.

  Back on WoW to occupy me while I rest but I’m kind of getting annoyed with it. It’s trying everything to get me to pay and also it’s not overly good

  I get cash out after trivia because it’s in a small town where an ATM is actually conveniently down the main street. I’ve decided $130 is a good amount to get out because it gives you four twenties and a fifty.

  $180 would also be good for similar reasons. Those flat amounts that just give you fifties are too annoying because it’s still too big an amount to break on smaller things and when I’m getting close to spending $50 I would probably lean towards using my card anyway

  My job provider finally got back to me and topped my Myki up, but still no reimbursement for $100 for the clothes I bought.

    I donated my work clothes to one of those places that say they get women kitted out for work, do they not actually do that? Maybe they sell the clothes and skim the money off the top 🤨

      They said I can buy clothes from Kmart or Target and they’ll reimburse up to $150. So I bought almost $98 worth. It’s been a month since I sent them a receipt, hence my email today (not allowed phones on us at work, only breaks, not enough time to get through to them). Implied it would be paid through Services Australia, then asked for my bank details 💀 I fare evaded to get in today, because I have 0.04c in my account, and that’s what prompted me to send a stern email. They remotely topped up my Myki with $50 and said reimbursement would process today.

  I got some help with the yard while the crazy neighbour/s weren’t around so that’s good. Fingers crossed it’s clear again tomorrow. I might get some help with putting up the shade cloth because right now I don’t trust myself on a ladder.

  I’m stuck on the fence with what clothing to declutter. It might have to go purely by fit and likelihood I’ll ever wear it again. There things I could get rid of but I prefer my old to the new. It’s hard to find comfortable replacements and the new t shirts I bought developed holes incredibly quickly. (The old ones lasted years.)

  I got rid of the old stuff for the junk being sold now I would likely be in a Sam Vimes Boots predicament sooner than necessary.

  Have a bit of a problem (well, not my problem but worried).

  P’s are going on a Japan cruise in Mar for 2 1/2 weeks. Ol’ girl isn’t really in great shape for it.
  Problems are myriad. The farthest I can get her to walk is about 650m on the flat (took 8 months to go from 300m). Shit stabillity at the knees and general walking. Food wise is going to be a disaster (even though it’s a swanky boat). Ol’ boy is a severe A type. Every time travelling as a fam it was stressful af. Race here and there at full speed etc. All my advice is falling on deaf ears. Proper knee brace (or 2), ol’ boy thinks a bandage will do the trick (it won’t), double down on supplements in the lead up, wheelchair going through terminals (that went down well), try different japanese takeaway places here in melbs a few times before going so as to give an idea what can be eaten… bring clothing that’s basically for vic apline weather (gets cold on a 25 degree sunny day even when walking w/ a polar fleece).
  All of it generic advice, all being ignored. I’d be amazed if it isn’t a train wreck or if there’s an injury.
  Not much I can do now to help except somehow bump calories (again) and hassle for more walks / at least something for leg strength.

    That’s really concerning. He doesn’t seem to have insight into her condition or needs and won’t be told.

    Hoping he gets enough of a reality check to buy some warm clothes and find suitable food at least, and that she pulls up alright.

    Is it possible to tell the airline and cruise staff they’re coming and may need assistance?

      It looks like a very (very) nice boat. Usually I’d look at how great it looks but going through the interior photos the only thing I’m looking for are hand rails lol.

      If the boat gets knocked around a bit at sea and there’s nothing to hold on to… yea… hrmm. Seems like a small thing until it isn’t.
