Whoa, am I tripping or is anybody else in direct communication with every Reverend Mother that came before me?
I love Dune!

Sounds like you are in fact tripping.

Rarely do I see someone become radically more knowledgeable or even prophetic because they took drugs, they usually just become loser alcoholics and junkies with no morals, lol.

Funny as I went from years of drug abuse and working dead end jobs with undiagnosed ADHD to turning my life around and becoming a software engineer and then kicking the drugs.
A whole range of people take drugs and most of them do it as they’re blocking other stuff out so I don’t really think you should discount people. Met plenty of fucking sober idiots in my life. If anything in more knowledgable as I’ve got streets smarts as well as book smarts. 🤷
Guess I’m saying don’t be so judgmental.

I dunno… highly depends on the drug. I go to some a music fest in the summer and almost all the people there are the nicest and most caring hippies you’ll meet. Booze is banned, so it’s a different vibe than most music fests, but I think it works out so well.
I feel like in today’s world being caring and nice is close to prophetic because we don’t see enough of it. It really does hit different seeing a ton of strangers look out for each other.

LSD is a whole different game. And you can’t get addicted, impossible. Trip today? Yeah, you’re not tripping again for another couple of days, no matter how much you take.
cows_are_underrated@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
The thing with LSD is, that (depending on your dose) you usually also dont want to trip that regularly since its in fact quite exhausting. And tolerance builds up in like no time, so tripping very regular is a gigantic waste of money.

President of Sand Planet has big human arms?! My first instinct is that that sucks, but my second instinct is that it rules.

I’m not going to try to say it didn’t kind of go off the rails at some point, but I still loved every minute reading that series.

I never made it to God Emperor, but I’ve heard it gets pretty bonkers
nonfuinoncuro@lemmy.zip 2 weeks ago
it’s been a few decades since i last read it but iirc the arms are small degenerate arms that can’t really do much except maybe operate a lasgun but by that point he didn’t really need to do much as he has a private army of fish speakers and his own desert compound within the terrafrormed arrakis

Rereading it right now. Fucking bizarre. At this point I just want to see what happens in the last book or two.

Recovering addict here. Drugs make you feel very, VERY good, and that’s why they’re so hard to quit.
dumbass@piefed.social 2 weeks ago
I quit taking street drugs because a street drug convinced me not to take them anymore.
Took a bunch of acid and it just kept telling me to stop taking so much drugs, every time and it wouldn’t be once, it was just randomly start telling me why I need to quit drugs, it was weird and only acid, mushies just made me love everything, acid had my back. I’m sober because LSD cared enough to convince me.
ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Yep. My closest male friend besides my brother quit everything besides weed (alcohol included!) and he was addicted to crack. He might be the strongest man I know.
