I need to know who pays for all this kind of research. I try to do a “very serious one” and I have to convince everyone up to the pope that it’s a relevant topic to be studied.

If you read the actual paper, you can see that it is indeed a serious study where they try to understand how mosquito feeding and reproductive behavior works.

Martin Skrillex tried to raise the price of insulin, he was tried and convicted for it.

I’m seeing a bit of Corey Feldman in his face.

This might have perfectly been nominated for an Ig nobel prize.

Sometimes i wonder who the fuck funded this kind of research ?
Is this the same person who also funded cat girls research to make it real ?mineralfellow@lemmy.world 10 months ago
“This work was financially supported by the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Fukuoka University, Japan.”

Would have been a broader study on acoustic based methods of reducing mosquito bites probably with the goal of preventing the spread of malaria. In this broader study they probably tried a whole bunch of sounds/tones with varying levels of success. They might have tried this particular song but more likely they just found that any level of rhythmic sound would reduce mosquito activity in the area. A clever journalist would then extrapolate the study into an attention grabbing headline to get views on their article. From that the “meme” spreads across social media.
-pulled straight out my ass, go find the actual study if you really care.

“The electronic song “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” reduces host attack and mating success in the dengue vector Aedes aegypti” - original article title.
Highlight: Adults entertained with music copulated far less than their peers

Damn, I haven’t seen a picture of Skrillex in a long time. Have they transitioned yet?

The real reason is the bass frequencies perturb their flight causing them to be too disoriented to mate or eat.

So all I have to do is blast this song on repeat to my backyard all summer long and I won’t have any mosquitos?
somewhiteguy@reddthat.com 10 months ago
Also your neighbors and friends will be too disoriented and perturbed to mate.
RamSwamson@lemmy.sdf.org 10 months ago
If I play it say, once an hour, will it encourage them to go away, or do they go right back to feeding once the song is over?
Rednax@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Nor any pesky neighbours! Win win!
Rooskie91@discuss.online 10 months ago
If it’s just the bass, sounds like you can play any banger.
