- Comment on Even Gen Z wants to keep Australia Day date: poll 3 days ago:
Yeah these things are definitely trends. I don’t think the date needs to change but I do think we should be aware of everything that’s happened since. Some of the worst ever treatment of people and actual completed genocides, not in the sense that we stopped doing it because we realised how inhumane it was, but in the sense that every last member of a culture was eradicated. Celebrate the day, have a beer with your mates, all I want is for the typical Australian to be conscious of our history.

The great thing about the liberals being so shit is that the government might compromise with the greens just to have a coherent negotiating partner

- Comment on A majority of Australians support banning pro-Palestine marches 4 weeks ago:
Yeah very much agree. The Palestine protests, exist in protest to the government’s actions. The reason they occur is because our government isn’t doing anything (or enough if you’re pedantic like that). It’s important that they keep happening because nothing is being done. There’s precedent for broad sanctions to countries that blatantly ignore human rights and international law; here’s the ones we gave to Russia:

It’s hypocritical not to do the same for Israel.

Resolve is a polling agency conducted by the Sydney morning herald. Their polls supposedly ask “questions that differ between print and online versions,” as well as “mislead readers” and have “limited utility.” They seem to have a habit of asking questions in a way that prompts certain answers and often misrepresented data in their articles. I wouldn’t consider them particularly valuable as a source though

I do think that there is a significant portion of the Australian population fed up with the protests. Anecdotally I’ve heard complaints about specifically the Palestine protests from people I interact with though it mostly amounts to “why are they still doing it and interrupting my day to day, I feel it is pointless and annoying,” as opposed to wanting them outright banned.

- Comment on Mosquito Sprites 5 months ago:
Would have been a broader study on acoustic based methods of reducing mosquito bites probably with the goal of preventing the spread of malaria. In this broader study they probably tried a whole bunch of sounds/tones with varying levels of success. They might have tried this particular song but more likely they just found that any level of rhythmic sound would reduce mosquito activity in the area. A clever journalist would then extrapolate the study into an attention grabbing headline to get views on their article. From that the “meme” spreads across social media.
-pulled straight out my ass, go find the actual study if you really care.

Hahahaha. It’s just a date mate, why not go for it?
Its more typical to be introduced to partners through social media or friends than from family where I live but all sorts of cultures do it in all sorts of ways. You set your own boundaries if you feel like your dad is overstepping there are plenty of ways to go about it. Parents are naturally concerned for their kids and the world we live in pushes young people to stay at home longer and push back starting a family. That can be very concerning for parents you grew up without such socioeconomic pressures.
Typically the way I go about things with my parents (and all people in general) is I don’t mention things I don’t want them involved with.
