Would have been a broader study on acoustic based methods of reducing mosquito bites probably with the goal of preventing the spread of malaria. In this broader study they probably tried a whole bunch of sounds/tones with varying levels of success. They might have tried this particular song but more likely they just found that any level of rhythmic sound would reduce mosquito activity in the area. A clever journalist would then extrapolate the study into an attention grabbing headline to get views on their article. From that the “meme” spreads across social media.
-pulled straight out my ass, go find the actual study if you really care.

Hahahaha. It’s just a date mate, why not go for it?
Its more typical to be introduced to partners through social media or friends than from family where I live but all sorts of cultures do it in all sorts of ways. You set your own boundaries if you feel like your dad is overstepping there are plenty of ways to go about it. Parents are naturally concerned for their kids and the world we live in pushes young people to stay at home longer and push back starting a family. That can be very concerning for parents you grew up without such socioeconomic pressures.
Typically the way I go about things with my parents (and all people in general) is I don’t mention things I don’t want them involved with.

It’s called having an opinion

Being unable to understand why people like sugary flavored drinks that keep you awake and contain addictive chemicals and calling it an opinion is like saying “climate change isn’t real, that’s just my opinion.”

- Comment on What do you think is the largest number a human can actually grasp / truly comprehend? 2 weeks ago:
Comprehension is a weird thing to define.
Like I know what 100 billion is. I can define it, I can say what’s less or more than it. Is that comprehension?
You could take three counters and throw them on a table in front of me and I could intuitively tell you there are 3 counters without individually counting each one. If you threw 20 counters on the table I would have to count all of them individually before I could tell you how many there are. Is that comprehension?
In my opinion any number that could be uniquely described counts as being comprehended by a human. For example I think people can grasp the concept of pi despite not being able to really grasp the infinite nature of it. So any number large enough where you couldn’t uniquely describe it to a person. Which is a pretty useless definition if we’re being honest.

Don’t really like to info dump but, I have been to therapy. I’ve felt this way since before I hit puberty. In my oldest memories where I still recognise myself I’ve felt like this. I’ve sorta accepted that I’ll feel this way for the rest of my life. Everyone experiences a range of emotions and for some people that range lies closer to despair than bliss.
- Comment on get sum 2 weeks ago:
I’m part of that group. One reason is I feel like shit, don’t really like myself and want the best for the people I love. That ain’t me.

Sure, what I’d really like to see is the absolute maximum a politician can earn from all sources be capped at median wage. If you have investments and you earn more than median wage anything excess is taxed and you don’t earn a wage for working in parliament

Yeah it’s total bullshit. One of the good things about social media I feel is people getting more of their information from non corporate sources but then again, social media for the most part is very corporate.

Imo the best politicians are those who aren’t monetarily motivated. Obviously eating enough to live comfortably should be provided, but if the median earner in Australia isn’t living comfortably then that is a failure of our politicians. How can someone who earns over 100 000 dollars a year and is insulated from the hardships of the common Australian be expected to really take those issues seriously in parliament. Fill parliament with people who can’t afford homes and the housing crisis would be solved tomorrow. The reality is politicians take the issues that effect them the most seriously. And the issues that effect them currently are the issues of the wealthy.

Ugghhhhhh fr why are you becoming a politician in Aus if you just hate democracy and transparency. Politicians should earn median wage. They’re all pricks whose only interests are their own.

- Comment on Why can't a liquid move faster than the speed of sound in that medium? 3 weeks ago:
All you did was define the speed of sound and then state:
“The speed of sound in a liquid medium is defined by the speed at which energy can propagate in that system, which includes motion”
Which is just a reiteration of what the speed of sound is and then an incorrect correlation to motion.
You didn’t describe what flow is, how it relates to the speed of sound, or and why flow stops at high flow rates. Your comment doesn’t answer the question and it’s worse than a nothing burger because it contains misinformation.
- Comment on Why can't a liquid move faster than the speed of sound in that medium? 4 weeks ago:
The biggest irony is not being able to rely on search engine results because it’s just explanations about why sound moves faster in a liquid and not any answers to your question, only to ask on Lemmy and have people explain why sound moves faster in a liquid and not give any answers to your question.

This analogy has nothing to do with why fluids can’t flow faster than their internal speed of sound
- Comment on Why can't a liquid move faster than the speed of sound in that medium? 4 weeks ago:
He’s asking why water can’t flow through a pipe at the speed of sound in water.
- Comment on Why can't a liquid move faster than the speed of sound in that medium? 4 weeks ago:
Ahhh not really? Energy can propagate within a medium faster than the speed of sound of said medium. Bullets are kinetic energy moving faster than the speed of sound in air.
Also how does defining the speed of sound in a medium (incorrectly) show that a fluid can’t flow faster than its internal speed of sound?
- Comment on Why can't a liquid move faster than the speed of sound in that medium? 4 weeks ago:
Ahhh I in terms of fluid flow? I mean you can move a glass of water as fast as you want (don’t @ me physicists) if the glass is moving at that speed.
