The solution to DUIs is less car-dependent infrastructure.
The Emmet Bar in Toronto, Ontario introduced coasters made from the scrap metal of cars that were involved in DUIs as a reminder to the effects of impaired and drunk driving

It is my god given right to crash my car while drunk.

While the idea is wholesome, it makes a pretty bad coaster imho: coasters are meant to prevent condensation droplets on the table right? A thin sheet of metal is the last material that should be used.

How do you know there isn’t a sheet of felt or cork glued to the metal coaster?

You got me there

I mean, if the bar owner actually cared, they wouldn’t be the owner of a bar. But it’s great for fake internet points so ya know.
It’s like Nestlé saying “we care, truly” while stealing from water sources. Like, sure, you keep telling yourself that.
FellowHuman@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Why do you think that they don’t care? You can have a bar and care about your custommers not killing someone. It might be a small business, or yeah it might not be the owner, it might be a manager. You never know.
I’m from Czechia. We’re known for socks in sandals and drinking beer. But outside of few village idiots, noone driks and drive.

Yeah sure lets close all bars so people will stop drinking alcohol.
I run a bar and I really fucking care.
We keep a close eye on our drunks and take away car keys and/or call cabs even after small amounts of alcohol.
Holding a piece of a crashed car in your hands might have a positive impact on someone or spark a discussion. I just sent that picture to my contact at one of the institutions for safer drinking I work with. I think that coaster might safe a life or two and that is enough for me to validate its existence. It sure reminded me of my duty to keep my guests in check and to remind my staff to do the same.
I know many bars don`t give a shit and those bars should get their liquor license revoked.
But many bars like mine offer a safe space for people to unwind and socialize. For many we are the only place where they get a warm welcome and someone to talk to.
Ingesting poison is part of the human expirience and will be forever, don’t dunk on us for moderating it.
Oh and fuck nestle of course.

Yeah its just another marketing, refusing to serve people who comes with car will be a much impactful action if he truly care.

The spirit of the drunk within demands an offering of blood alcohol, and will do anything it can to extract it.
