I’m definitely excited for this to come back on. Between this and Vox Machina, Prime has been putting out some great animation.

Can I ask, we’re you a fan of Critical Role before watching Vox Machina? I’m a big fan and really liked VM, but I’m curious if it hits similarly for viewers not familiar with the story/characters.
charles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 8 months ago
I tried watching CR a few times ages ago, but honestly found it impenetrable. It’s such a massive time commitment that I just never had. So yeah, I don’t have any sentiment for the characters outside VM, but I love it.

I enjoyed Critical Role but was near the end of the Underdark arc when I started watching VM, so I wasn’t that familiar with the story or group that much, and I enjoyed the show a lot.

I’m not a big D&D fan but I really liked Vox Machina.

Fuck yea! Been waiting ages. Season 1 was so good it made me binge read all the comics in less than a week, and I almost never read comics. I got very little sleep and neglected several responsibilities lol.
WarmSoda@lemm.ee 8 months ago
The comics are a fun read. Anyone that likes the show should check them out

How? Which writers are on this? I thought they were all striking...
procrastitron@lemmy.world 8 months ago
The production cycle for animation is ridiculously long and writing is at the very beginning of it. It’s possible that all the writing was done long before the strike started.

It’s possible that all the writing was done long before the strike started.
Yep, Robert Kirkman did it all back between 2003 and 2018.
altima_neo@lemmy.zip 8 months ago
It’s animation. The writing had to have been done right after the first season finished production. Most if not all the work being done now is likely all editing and compositing work.
Illuminostro@lemmy.world 8 months ago
The writing is long done. Then comes the voice actors, then the animation.
PatFussy@lemm.ee 8 months ago
They are probably going to just do a flip book of the comic at 0.5 fps and some background sounds
xyzzy@lemm.ee 8 months ago
How long do you think an animated show takes to produce? The strike has only been going for four months.

This date has been known for over a month, why was the article published / posted now?
Potatos_are_not_friends@lemmy.world 8 months ago
I’m envious that you knew. This was the first time I saw a date.
NightOwl@lemmy.one 8 months ago
Waited so long feels like its been like half a decade. I hope it’s as good as the first season I which I loved.
antaymonkey@lemmy.world 8 months ago
I’m only writing this because there don’t seem to be any dissenting opinions here…
With that said, seems like I’m in the minority that thought this show was too cliche, predictable and just boring. Happy for those of you who enjoyed it but it’s a very easy pass for me.

Even though I know there more to it, I just can’t bring myself to watch any of the wave of “what if superman was evil” or “comic character derivatives, but blood and gore” shows and movies that came out.
Katana314@lemmy.world 8 months ago
When Omni-Man finally took turn to explain his motivations there was almost no substance to it. In the end, a lot of it felt like because a few characters were far more powerful than all the others, little else mattered. Robot’s whole arc kinda puttered out without affecting anyone else, too.

Brightburn squandered a great opportunity

This is great news. I just learned that there’s an Atom Eve special that came out in July.

It’s great!

Yeah it’s a filter, but it’s good

That is great news.

I almost don't want to get hyped again because we're going to be waiting for the inevitable season 3 for another 2-3 years, right? But S1 was sooo gooood damn
gregorum@lemm.ee 8 months ago
Clearly you’re not a Venture Bros fan…
snooggums@kbin.social 8 months ago
Yeah, when it comes to animation I am very willing to be patient in exchange for quality. Very few animated shows have been able to pump out quality episodes at an annual pace, and I would rather they not rush it.
baatliwala@lemmy.world 8 months ago
I’ve heard that they planned season 2 and 3 in a way that the gap won’t be that long
gregorum@lemm.ee 8 months ago
I’m really glad to hear it. I didn’t expect much from the show, but I quickly fell in love with it.
Dekthro@lemm.ee 8 months ago
Yeah me either. Until I saw the trailer for Moral Kombat 1 then I had to watch it.
