- Comment on Has google stopped working for finding anything? 11 months ago:
While i do think people are exagerating that google is useless, and the kagi push on lemmy is suspiciously strong, I do still hate what google has become. It lies to me, almost every time I ask it what movie an actor has been in.
google claims Alan Tudyk is in Andor, when he isn’t. There are one or two articles of people suggesting that he might end up in Andor, but nothing official. Google pulls from the rumors and says “yep, he’s clearly in Andor”. The way i search this is by typing just an actors name then clicking the “movies and tv” option.

Maximum Overdrive is a favorite in my family, not over the big name movies like IT and The Stand, but we love it. The vending machine, the green goblin truck, “CUURTIIISSS, CURTIS ARE YOU DEAD???”

It’s possible for two things to be true. Sometimes the police need to use deadly force. They also very frequently use excessive deadly force.

Confirmed, it is not out. My bad!

I didn’t know where to find that, thank you!
- Comment on Is there a timeline/plan for lemm.ee to upgrade to 0.19? 1 year ago:
Huh, I thought I’d seen at least one other instance on it so I thought so, but now I’m not sure. I may have misinterpreted their attempts at getting 0.19 to work as it actually being released. My app is ready for 0.19, so I assumed I was just waiting for lemm.ee to catch up (and we all know what they say about assuming…)

I’ve been torn on whether to block this user for a while. Every other post is actually valuable and interesting, then he posts clickbait and sexist bullshit like this. This was the tipper, bye GreyTechnician, you won’t be missed in my feed

When I really needed extra money I donated plasma. It’s one of those things that pays you more the more you do it, still not a lot but everything helps. Also seconding dental schools, it won’t be free but can save you thousands

- Comment on What were some movies you had to look up explanations of after watching? 1 year ago:
I didn’t exactly need the ending explained, but Everything Everywhere All At Once has so much going on that I got really hyper focused on looking up commentary for everything in the movie. There were a lot of things I missed so I found it really valuable beyond just wanting to deep dive every little detail haha.
Surprisingly, after all the hype of Interstellar being incredibly confusing, I felt like I missed something because it seemed fairly straightforward (not the plot, which was obviously convoluted, just that I understood the ending). Then I looked up explanations of the ending and they fit my interpretation so that was a bit anticlimactic lol

I’m currently addicted to BG3! I spent basically my entire weekend playing, and I think I’m close to the end of act 1. I’m playing a Druid.
- Comment on Why does heathcliff without heathcliff dominate Lemmy's /comics 1 year ago:
I disagree that 1-2 posts a day counts as spam. It is a disproportionate amount of the posts because not enough other users are active. If more people posted regularly, it wouldn’t seem like so much. The user likes the comics, and they get upvoted more than downvoted, so it’s clear more people like them than not. I recommend you block them if you are so tired of seeing them.
- Comment on What is the ratio of women to men at Lemmy? 1 year ago:
I guess roughly 60/40 men to women, based on the conversations I’ve had about gender here
- Comment on Why does heathcliff without heathcliff dominate Lemmy's /comics 1 year ago:
When you say there are more of course, do you mean there are more than 1-2 heathcliff posts a day? I can’t see them.
Blocking does seem the simple solution if you get tired of seeing them, instead of this passive aggressive post that will just make the poster feel like a nuisance.

Looking at the account, they post 1-2 a day. Is that really too much for you?
- Comment on Invincible Season 2 coming Nov 3 1 year ago:
Fuck yea! Been waiting ages. Season 1 was so good it made me binge read all the comics in less than a week, and I almost never read comics. I got very little sleep and neglected several responsibilities lol.

I know it’s not spam, sorry, it’s just that you posted 30 times in about half an hour. I like the content, that’s why I asked instead of just blocking you and moving on. (And I’m not trying to be a Karen like “do what I say or I’ll block you!”, I know it won’t impact you at all if I block you, just trying to explain my reasoning behind the request. I really don’t want to block you, I do like your posts)

- Comment on Do younger people go home earlier now? Or go out less? Is it since COVID? 1 year ago:
I’m nearly 30. When it comes to family dinners, I want to eat earlier because I need time to unwind after the dinner. I want to get home by 9 so I have time to wind down before bed. I’m very introverted, and even though I get along well with both my family and my in-laws it’s still tiring to be around them. The only person who doesn’t wear me out is my husband, so I feel the same about hanging out with friends.

I’ve watched the video. It’s a great critique of the corporate feminism in the movie. But it fails to back up your claim that Barbie has no cultural introspection.
The movie certainly does a garbage job of addressing the body image issues perpetuated by the brand. And it gives the company way too much cutesy-funness in an attempt to tame down the corporate hate it would receive. But not every feminist movie can cover every feminist topic. If every movie had to be a perfect representation of every feminist issue, we would have 0 feminist movies.
IMO, the biggest theme of the movie is how the patriarchy negatively impacts both men and women. That is feminist, and is strongly culturally introspective. We have very few movies that discuss toxic masculinity and its impact on our culture, Barbie is a good start.
- Comment on [deleted] 1 year ago:
Then you weren’t paying attention. The movie has plenty of cultural introspection, particularly how the patriarchy impacts both men and women. Yes it was definitely a giant toy ad, but it wasn’t just that.

- Comment on Why do dinosaurs have big heads and tiny arms? 1 year ago:
I don’t think science really categorizes species based on how successful they were. “Passing” in this sense refers to the individuals in the species who were able to reproduce, not the population as a whole. Most dinosaurs “passed” until ecological conditions killed them off, they didn’t die because they failed to adapt. A lot of the species that survived mass extinction events were just lucky, rather than having some ideal set of characteristics that allowed them to survive.
