- Comment on How does employing a rapist not constitute an unsafe work environment for female employees? 10 months ago:
If they didn't do it they get the same 'not guilty' verdict, so what is the recourse for someone who was falsely charged. I am specifically thinking of the US where there are a lot of black men falsely convicted of violent crimes they did not commit because of racist eye witness testimony and prosecutors who want higher conviction rates.

When the only people who commuted were those that were required to be physically present for their work or those that wanted to be in the office traffic was massively reduced and commute times shortened if the reduction meant being able to go the speed limit.

Those franchise fees are still tied to sales enough to have a dip during covid and continuous increases after which aligns with menu price increases.

What a jackass.
McDonald's, which has raised prices by 20% over a two-year period, said late last year that it was starting to lose low-income customers.
20% price increase over two years you say? Certainly that was necessary to keep the company afloat!
McDonald's gross profit for the quarter ending September 30, 2023 was $3.864B, a 12.12% increase year-over-year.
McDonald's gross profit for the twelve months ending September 30, 2023 was $14.317B, a 9.63% increase year-over-year.
McDonald's annual gross profit for 2022 was $13.207B, a 4.98% increase from 2021.
McDonald's annual gross profit for 2021 was $12.58B, a 29% increase from 2020.
McDonald's annual gross profit for 2020 was $9.752B, a 12.77% decline from 2019.Other than a dip in 2020 that was more than replaced in 2021, McDonald's is right back on track with record profits and the only reason they are losing low income earners is pricing themselves out of that market.
- Comment on Why is the current temperature sometimes lower than today's low temperature? For example right now it 13F with a predicated low today of 16F! 11 months ago:
My regional temp estimates are far enough away for a few degrees difference as I am closer to a large body of water. In my case it is only a couple of miles/few kilometers distance for that variation.

- Comment on Bosses are using RTO mandates as a way to ‘blame employees as a scapegoat for bad firm performance,’ new research finds 11 months ago:
The big thing is that while there are benefits to shared spaces for most people, it is rare that it is something that is important enough to justify everyone making a daily commute. Especially when the vast majority of their jobs are done independently, with a small portion of their time benefiting from collaboration or chance interactions.
I have a hybrid schedule which works great because on the days I am in the office I interact with others most of the time and the days at home are spent getting the work done as a result of that interaction. I'm not being constantly interrupted or annoyed by the 'chance interactions' of everyone else in the wide open office environment for most of my week.
- Comment on Cloudflare Employee records her final meeting where HR tries to fire her 11 months ago:
Depends on the state and how they were hired. It could be unemployment benefits, penalties for breaking a contract, or to avoid being sued if they mostly fire people in a protected class. For the employee it is most likely severence or unemployment.
Using performance is a catchall way to avoid the possible negative outcomes for the company. All they have to do is use the metrics that result in firing the people they planned on firing anyway!

It is likely that firing her for 'performance issues' costs the company less than just firing her for whatever the actual reason would be.

Loved it when she asked if performance indicators were real or just something they use as an excuse. Plus pointing out that they aren't going to explain after she is fired, since she won't be an employee anymore.
I hope she finds another job that doesn't treat her like shit.

A joke about taking your adult children to a strip club is funny because of how weird it would be. Hart flubbed it by making his son's sexuality the punchline.

With medical supervision, supplements for vitamins & nutrients, and other considerations for their particular condition. Certainly not something a person should do on their own.
- Comment on Kevin Hart Says He Won’t Host the Oscars Again: Awards Shows ‘Aren’t Comedy-Friendly Environments Anymore’ 11 months ago:
One in particular was about how the comedian would be disappointed if his son was gay because he couldn’t take him to the strip club with him.
The premise could have worked if he switched it around and said that he was going to have to go to gay strip club or Chippendale's or something instead of being a complaint about not being able to go to his usual clubs. That would have made it supportive and accepting of his son while also highlighting his personal hangups.

Billy Crystal hosted a bunch of times in the 90's and was well received because his humor wasn't edgy, just light and fun.
- Comment on What are your opinions about 'handicap' features in games 11 months ago:
Another is any game that adjusts comeback mechanics during the course of a match, because I’ve never understood punishing someone for playing well
The idea behind it is aiming for a close ending for a variety of skill sets by trying to balance things as the last minute, but it certainly feels like punishing anyone who does well early on.
Some implementations are kinda fun when they seem like actual balancing, but only if they are early enough for the winning team/person to be able to address and not some unstoppable surprise on the last lap/few seconds of a match like a blue shell in Mario Kart.

Most people don’t know that Netflix funded a lot of its original programming by taking on a lot of debt. The company currently has over $11 billion in outstanding debt, most of which comes due in 4 years.
While I did not know that about Netflix, taking on debt to keep up with business needs is how the vast majority of businesses grow so it shouldn't be a surprise.
