Oh dear, poor YarraByte doesn’t know that donuts are not served in the DT.

I choose to believe that is a ring cake. My slice was delicious, not donuty at all.

Hold what’s this? This is new to me.

Someone at the cafe just ordered a weak long black with honey on the side…

Uber driver gave me a crash course in mortgages and how to buy a place before the end of the year. Gave me some recommended builders as well.
And that’s why I talk to pretty much everyone lol
Also…
Image I failed miserably but! It’s an early birthday present.
SituationCake@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Thornbury Witch has given some very good advice. Also be aware, that if you don’t currently meet the deposit/income criteria for a mortgage from a regular bank, you will certainly not be getting a better deal elsewhere. Because of the high risk to the lender they will charge higher interest, fees etc. It will cost you a lot more. Best to save more deposit. There is nothing wrong with renting if means you can live comfortably and not be mortgaged to the eyeballs stressing over every dollar. I’ve never built new so I don’t know anything about finance + build schemes, but I would be too uncomfortable. Are there kickbacks to the builder? What’s the fine print? What recourse do you have if there’s problems with the build? I would feel much safer with a regular bank loan.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I appreciate your advice :)
I wouldn’t borrow if the bank wasn’t going to lend on my current salary.
That’s a convo with the bank this week.
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Ooohh exciting new toy!
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I can already play drums to a degree, so it’ll be nice to play drums to my own songs, which I can then use as a back track when performing by myself
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Any good advice?
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Well a couple of things:
I didn’t know I could get enough from the bank on my current salary
You can reserve land in new builds and not have to pay for it (through a loan) for a couple of years
The 2 builders he gave me the details of can do the mortgage broking as well
Explained that it’s possible to pay to have your credit record scrubbed of defaults

I really should go to bed earlier but I am a night owl through and through. It’s in my blood.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
You do you. I was a night owl for years. These days I’m wondering how to stay up until at least 9pm so I don’t wake up at 3am well rested.
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
If it wasn’t for work I’d be a night owl myself.
Well also not withstanding shops not being open at night.

I have brunched, I have shopped, I have put on a load of washing, and I have bought Whitlams tickets. So far so good today.
TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Fukkit. The sun is shining, the wind has dropped. The washing is done and the house clean. There’s a new caff in Miller St where TickledPink used to be. I’m going out for brunch. I may have a wine or two with it then doze the afternoon away.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Perfect afternoon.
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Here’s a little birdo that comes to visit. Not often but did today.
No idea what it is but it hovers ever so gracefully for the nectar. Loves the red flowers.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I love these little dudes, they’re so beautiful when they’re perched sideways or even upside down sometimes drinking nectar from the long-necked flowers.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Googled ‘brown and yellow bird long beak nectar’… Might be an Eastern Spinebill?
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
you are right 🙂
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
New Holland Honeyeater perhaps?
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Yes. I love these 🙂, they come and sip from the orchids on my balcony. I have been trying to get pics but they are too quick .
TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Those are much bigger and bright yellow and black. Don’t know the one in the pic.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Been craving a novelty purchase. Felt off the last few days.
Increased my adhd meds by a quarter of a tablet.
Feel normal and not about to waste a few hundred bucks on bullshit I don’t need.
The power of DOPAMINE!!!
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
The man just bought a party light stick and a party light beam. My lounge room is turning into a disco.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
That sounds like a shit load of fun lol

yup

Melbourne is cold and depressing
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Out for dinner with friends and it was… fine. Come midnight and I’m in the kitchen devouring half a bag of chips, so maybe it could have been better/more filling as I’m generally not a late night snacker - especially with boyo is already asleep!
Expedition 33 adventures continue, I’m not sure I want this game to ever end.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I bought it and still haven’t even launched it yet lol
Might be a good Sunday treat.
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Becareful. Once up start you won’t want to stop!
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I woke in sweats last night. Odd for a cold night. Less odd now that my throat has been getting progressively worse since about midday. Aside from vitamin C, garlic and a hot toddy, anyone got any pre-cold advice?
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I used to use a product called Armaforce from the chemist to fight off colds, taking them early when you start to feel like coming helps a lot in stopping it.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Chilli. Hotter the better.
Listerine gargle.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Eating enough, lots of fluids and a lot of sleep
StudChud@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Meant to have Sunday lunch with the grandparents but I just bailed because my crimson horror is here. Ugh!
Be gone, foul organ, you and your ruinous ways!
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Goodnight everybody. Sweet dreams 😘

but it’s nearly done
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
You can do it!

I really should be doing some cleaning but Miss Meow has me pinned down on the couch and is purring madly.
I did get a small shelf for my toaster oven assembled and have put up the small fence to keep Mr Woof and Miss Meow away from the side gate. I now have a small utility courtyard for the bins etc., and hopefully being open metal bars instead of solid it won’t trigger Mr Woof to try digging under it to get out to come and find me when I’m away. He seems to stress out if I’m gone more than about 20 minutes.
just_kitten@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Alright, here goes another attempt at trying to push through some uni stuff on a weekend. Was out for a chunk of yesterday helping a relative which was good - physical activity that got me out of the house and had a very good night’s sleep. I’ve been religiously taking melatonin 0.3mg for over a week, normally I wouldn’t but it’s crunch time and I absolutely need to make sure I’m not falling asleep at 2am.
Had a brief squiz at the news and once again I am feeling extremely lucky to be in a place that’s physically far from conflict… but I think we can all expect petrol prices to shoot up in a few weeks (also, huge bump in electricity prices from 1 July D: that will be after my thesis is due so it’s a good point at which to return to my frugal ways)

Busy day. Just more of the same as yesterday. 🙂
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Oh my, just cooked a double egg and used cooking bacon as a test it’s some toast.
Very satisfying!
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Freaked out thinking I had something on today and was going to be late… it’s Sunday. Back to computer.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Change my view - why buy a luxury car? Great, your car has a nice engine, it’s smooth on the roads, has cool lights. But I genuinely don’t get why people buy expensive cars when that money could go towards a house deposit or a mortgage. I guess they might not have a house to pay off when they’re buying one of these cars, but some are financing it. Why pay for some commodity with money you don’t have unless you actually need it to live?
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Maybe they like nice cars. They might like to drive and go driving for enjoyment.
Also, good cars tend to have better resale value.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I get that. It’s like having ‘good’ chocolate vs 'standards chocolate

Anyone have opinions on mesh office chairs? I’ve been thinking of getting one for my girlfriend.
It seems to be a case of either, ‘you need to spend a lot’ or ‘don’t spend a lot, they all come out of the same factory’
tone212_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Do you mean office chairs with mesh for the seat? Super comfortable, the one I have is better than any cushion seat office chair that I’ve tried.
SituationCake@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I have no option on mesh vs upholstery, but have strong opinion that any desk chair needs to full adjustable in seat height, tilt, back support, arm rest height. Because everybody’s body is different and getting it set up right is that’s what’s gonna make it comfortable for you.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Both unis I’ve been to have hundreds of these chairs, and they’ve been super comfortable compared to the plastic chair I have at home. But YMMV.
I feel like Marketplace could be a good way to source one.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Unis wouldn’t be spending crazy money on these chairs either so that’s reassuring
Duenan@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Happen to have a picture of one?
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I was thinking something like this. For reference, I spent a lot more on a Steelcase Leap when I had business money to play with so this is a lot cheaper by comparison:

Hit up a bar with some family friends that I don’t know super well but had a good time. Goodnight all.

Ohh. Just got an invite to a low key winter solstice bush doof next weekend. It’ll both be really cold and I’ll still be in my post-surgical light-duties window. I’ve also got a get together wake on for a guy I use to work with and it’d be great to catch up with the old workmates. I could also stay inside and continue being a warm winter goblin.
