All art is political.

The only apolitical movie I can think of is plan 9 and that is pushing it

The hunt for red October.
Sneakers.
Not saying ever etc… Just my favorites of the top of my head
SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 day ago
I feel like Sneakers was incredibly prescient and incredibly political due to that. The drive to control the flow of information is deeply political at this point.

Absolutely agree, but also points a sharp point at the general evils lurking behind most politics, essentially nailing an anarchic view of “doing what’s right” as opposed to “doing what’s legal”.

Dredd is incredible. Super underrated.

This is kind of cheating, but here’s a movie-length edit of Patrick “Picard” Stewart as Lenin from the miniseries “Fall of Eagles”: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsiU0P-swYE

Best political, probably Kolkata 71. Parasite is also very good. Best apolitical, I have to go with Panther Panchali. It’s so hard to just choose one movie, my answer will probably change if you ask me again in a few days. A list of 20 might do it a bit more justice lol.

3 Days of The Condor is the best political movie, IMHO.
Best Apolitical? Picking one of my favorites, Where Eagles Dare.
Both are watchable for free on Archive.org :D

Where Eagles Dare is a great one.

Wag the Dog is my personal political favourite – still holds up well after all these years. It came out in 1997, just at the same time the Clinton/Lewinski scandal surfaced.

War is continuation of war, so we can say Come and see by Elem Klimov (hard to see). There are few apolitical things, and a movie is not one of those.

All the President’s Men is my favorite political movie.

V for vendetta is my go to for a political movie.
Some thought that cartoonish villains taking over western countries while the rest of the world went to shit was far fetched but here we are.
lordnikon@lemmy.world 1 day ago
That’s the thing you don’t know if the rest of the world did go to shit. That’s the point of fascist take over and propaganda they put out. “The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
