Tobacco is a hardier plant that can be grown in more places than coca AFAIK.
Now you can support your community with locally grown and cultivated cocaine, instead of relying on imports. Lmao
lolrightythen@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
I bet traffickers are gonna be real busy smuggling legal (pre-smuggled) items because of these tarrifs.
cows_are_underrated@feddit.org 5 weeks ago
And tobacco is Not AS suspicious as coca
Xatolos@reddthat.com 5 weeks ago
Tobacco is easier to grow in more places. This makes it easier to grow and produce medical grade cocaine.
Empricorn@feddit.nl 4 weeks ago
I invite you to try to grow coca plants in your backyard. You will not succeed, for several reasons…
Geodad@lemm.ee 5 weeks ago
You can modify tobacco plants to produce a wide variety of pharmaceuticals. It’s a very versatile plant. Last I knew, the University of Kentucky had a large field of various strains of experimental tobacco plants on their research farm.
idiomaddict@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
They better call them wacky tabacky
HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
I’m still on the tomacco train
DaCrazyJamez@sh.itjust.works 5 weeks ago
I feel like we already had a plant for this
Droggelbecher@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
But maybe this’ll grow in more regions, breaking up the bloody monopoly, making coke more ethical
BigBrainBrett2517@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
“Are you holding?” “Yeah, I’ve got A+ grade pure Colombian here.” “Yeeeaaahhh, I don’t wanna be ‘that guy’ but do you have any ethical coke?”
GiraffeNeckInKnot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 weeks ago
I was scrolling down and looking at tv show, leaving my mouse idling and this pop up ‘more’ align perfectly with your ‘more’ word in the sentence.
Kowowow@lemmy.ca 5 weeks ago
I wonder if you’d get the numbing effect of cocaine when smoking the leaves like tobacco
Neverclear@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 weeks ago
No, smoking cocaine (aka cocaine hydrochloride) does not do much unless you first chemically “free the base” (aka crack cocaine).
chaogomu@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
Fun fact, “free base” is the origin of the of the term “based”.
Originally it was not a good thing.
Language changes, so now based is fucking rad. And rad is not a term used by anyone.
idiomaddict@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
Can confirm. I was once given a cocaine cigarette without my knowledge and it did have enough of a stimulant effect for me to notice something was off (though I was expecting a spliff, so it was easier to realize that it was having the opposite effect), but I absolutely did not get any kind of high.
It was mostly just increased heart rate and anxiety with a little nausea, like being overcaffeinated.
x00z@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
Depending on the dose it could still do some stuff. Just like sniffing freebase cocaine can also give a tiny bit of effect.
Not that one should be doing that.
Revan343@lemmy.ca 5 weeks ago
Now do yeast
latenightnoir@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
I knew smoking’d pay off if I just kept at it! (kidding)
mycelium_underground@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
The gene sequence is public knowledge, published in academic papers. You can buy everything including the custom sequence to do the CRISPR process online.
Just saying.
stevedice@sh.itjust.works 4 weeks ago
You can also just buy coca seeds. The magic powder is still quite a few steps away from that.
letsgo@lemm.ee 5 weeks ago
I do not approve this message.
nectar45@lemmy.zip 5 weeks ago
Yes you do
Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 5 weeks ago
Yeah, people won’t stop talking when they’re coked up.
SplashJackson@lemmy.ca 5 weeks ago
Tilsonburg? My back still aches when I hear that word.
But I can’t feel my face
KraeuterRoy@feddit.org 5 weeks ago
Now do a real life Tomacco!
HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
fun fact, nicotine is produced in the roots. a dude in lake oswego oregon made tomacco in 2003. you graft a tomato plant onto some tobacco roots. you can also use tomato roots with tobacco grafted on to get tobacco without nicotine.
granted, I read about this over a decade ago so some details may be fuzzy
