The “do you know where your files are?” reminds me of their past security leaks and breaches. 🤔
Is... Is this a threat?

For the last time, no!

I get emails from them “There’s still space on your Dropbox. You have 6GB of space left”
It feels like they think I just want to upload files for no reason. What’s the rush?
query@lemmy.world 2 years ago
Need to use up all your storage before you feel a need to pay for more.
Asymptote@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 years ago
Google Photos keeps notifying me that I’m running out of space and I’ve used a whopping 26% of my space!
el_bhm@lemm.ee 2 years ago
Just upload Shrek 5 times.
4am@lemm.ee 2 years ago
They’ve been acting desperate lately.
Psythik@lemm.ee 2 years ago
“aTtEnTiOn: YoUr dRoPbOx HaS sToPpEd Syncing”
Anyone else get that same email all the time? To their credit, I haven’t logged in for years and they still haven’t deleted my data, despite having every right to do so at this point.

It’s certainly coercive, if not an outright threat.

Do you know where your files are motherfucker?
Eric_andre311@lemmy.world 2 years ago
We have them. Go to Dropbox.
Blaze@discuss.tchncs.de 2 years ago
I didn’t even know they were still in business

Uhh… are they training AI models on people’s files? That’s sort of the feeling I’m getting from their “PLEASE UPLOAD YOUR ENTIRE HARD DRIVE” push.
ghostofjohnnycache@feddit.de 2 years ago
Well, they say they won’t use customer data for model training.
But, it isn’t clear whether or not they’d get that consent passively, like “by continuing to use our services” after sending a little email “hey we updated our privacy policy, thought you should know, k thx bye”
lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 years ago
I mean they can train their AI on my entire hard drive if I can upload it for free…

All I can think of is those old PSAs. “It’s 8:55 AM. Do you know where your files are?”

10-30, we got a hostage situation here.

mega.nz is way better than a lot of these cloud storage services+ you get 50 GBs for free.
Yarmin@sopuli.xyz 2 years ago
or host your own with nextcloud or casaos or the like
narc0tic_bird@lemm.ee 2 years ago
One stupid notification like these from your app and it’s uninstalled and the service cancelled.
3TH4Li4@feddit.ch 2 years ago
Duolingo level harassment
Izzy@lemmy.world 2 years ago
I’d use dropbox again if they allowed public linking to said files. I have no use for online storage otherwise.
Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 2 years ago
I hadn’t realized they removed that feature (well, paywalled it)…
I’ve had a free 8gb account for years, but almost never use it. Switched to self-hosting a while ago. VPN+SSH to manage files, then nginx to serve them through my domain.
martinbasic@lemmy.world 2 years ago
Why do i think that it’s a some kind of poem…
Agent641@lemmy.world 2 years ago
You know thend part of S.T.A.L.K.E.R where the booming disembodied voice draws you closer? Thats the voice with which I read these notifications.

Sync.com is waaay better than Dropbox. Also, Sync won’t lie or bait-and-switch you like Dropbox will. Never, ever trust Dropbox. They suck an entire ass.

GET YOUR ASS BACK TO DROPBOX MOTHERFUCKER.
JoBo@feddit.uk 2 years ago
They already deleted mine and won’t answer any emails about it. You leave a project on the back-burner for a while, they introduce a new charging structure, and oopsie, everything is gone.
Fuck you Dropbox.
