- Comment on What is the General Consensus of Web3? 5 days ago:
There was this idea that instead of having the web powered by large data companies like Google and Meta you could keep all your information in the blockchain. It was an attempt to “take back control”.
However, most of the proponents kinda forgot that the web is already decentralized and only portions are controlled by Meta and Google.
Then, of course, we had the grifters come in.
The whole thing was built on a misunderstanding of how the web actually works.

Your experience here is what I mean. You have used Windows a lot, so you understand how it all works. I don’t.
I struggled to find drivers for obscure hardware under Windows. If there are no modules, no git repo, it can be confusing where to get them. I found a bunch of sketchy looking websites that claimed they had the drivers, but no obvious way to safely install them. I still don’t know the proper way to do it.
I am familiar with Linux, so I know I need to find modules that I can compile against my kernel. 9 times out of 10 it’s effortless for me.

It’s not that Windows is easier. It’s that you’re more familiar with Windows.

Disney adults are just nerds. Almost all of them have been chill.

I used to work at Disneyland. The “disney adult” meme doesn’t seem to stack up with reality.

Most of these gripes are solved by simply not buying the flagship and instead purchasing the $200 unlocked version.
Now the battery, that’s the one that pisses me off the most. But at this point we’ve been doing it for 10 years.

Just gotta buy some carbon credit and then you can burn as much oil as you want.

That’s a Walmart thing. They wanted to compete with Apple over contactless payments thing and Walmart invested in tech that uses QR codes. No one ever partnered with Walmart so they now use their QR payment tech in house.

If you gave a shit about people with mobility issues you’d know how dumb that statement is.

You don’t buy Starbucks food for the value. You do it cause there’s one on the way to work/school.

As someone who runs a mini homelab in a building I don’t have access to the Internet hardware, you’d be surprised how a combination of the two can be very reliable and fairly fast.
All my devices have a gigabit connection to one another but the web router is just a 5gHz link.
- Comment on Is it possible for someone to "become gay" or were they always predisposed to it? 8 months ago:
Realistically, no. Your just kinda born that way. You might not be aware of your sexual identity but it’s in there. Some people take years to “come-out” to themselves. Often there’s denial from years in internalized homophobia.

It feels like they think I just want to upload files for no reason. What’s the rush?

In a lot of ways it’s still more marketing than a revolution. AI can’t do my job yet. Not saying it never will but we’re a lot farther away from that than most people think.

I’ve lived in the city most of my life. Had a friend that lived in the country that told me to come out and visit. He was convinced that I needed to buy a gun because how dangerous it supposedly is.
I shit you not, the next morning he was threatening his neighbor with a gun. Turns out there is a ton of crime in the country. Nobody has a job so they constantly steal from each other.
